Warm up
Graph the following lines: (remember, a y= line is a horizontal line, a x= line is a vertical line)
Y = 0 X = 4
X = 0 X = 1
Y = -3 Y = -2
These graphs are in your notes
SWBAT reflect an image across a line of reflection
SWBAT write a rule describing a reflection

Reflections
Reflections: Not just for thinking about your feelings anymore!
Useful for a variety of things, such as:
Knowing what you look like
Spying on people
Reflecting figures across a coordinate
plane!!!
Reflection Reflection: Mirroring an image across a line
of reflection
I GET IT ALREADY. Reflection. Like a mirror. Show me how to do this.
How to Graph ReflectionsSteps
1. Label each vertex of the original figure
2. Draw a line at the line of reflection
3. Count the distance each vertex is from the line of reflection.
4. Plot your prime vertices the same distance from the line of reflection as the original vertices.
5. Connect your new points and label them as prime.

Ms. Ramsel, shapes ask ME what to do! I
don’t follow rules, I WRITE them!
Write A Rule of ReflectionSteps
1. Count the distance between a vertex and it’s prime
2. Divide that distance by 2 to find the middle
3. Move the vertex by the quotient and draw in the line of reflection
4. Write the equation of a line through that point
REMEMBER!!! A. Vertical lines will be in the form of x = ___ B. Horizontal lines will
be in the form of y = ___
Model
22/2 = 1
Line of Reflection is y = 0
