• The courts ruled that some of his programs were unconstitutional

• FDR wanted to add more judges who would agree with his plans: COURT PACKING (go up to 15 instead of 9)

• MANY people disagreed with this idea, hurt his popularity

• Frances Perkins – 1st woman to be a Secretary in the Cabinet (Labor)

• Eleanor Roosevelt – FDR’s wife who became his eyes and ears to problems & supported women’s causes

Depression, then why is it remembered as a significant government program?

• It gave people hope that the government was trying to help. It provided jobs and welfare for those needing it the most. It did great public work like parks, highways, electricity to rural areas. We still benefit today from some of the projects. We still have Social Security and banking insurance today.
