SUNY Geneseo is now offering 5 ONLINE courses that are necessary to complete the Individual Pathway for an Additional Classroom Teaching Certificate. Coursework will include synchronous and asynchronous components.
*English to Speakers of Other Languages
THE 5 ONLINE COURSES INCLUDE:
EDUC 521 Linguistics and Culture (Offered in the Fall)
EDUC 548 Literacy & Language Development – ESOL (Offered in the Fall and Summer)
ENG 506 Writing for Teachers (Grammar) (Offered in the Fall)
CURR 624 Pedagogy & Instruction for ESOL (Offered in the Spring and Summer; Pre-reqs include EDUC 521 & 548)
CURR 625 Assessment Based Instructional Practices – ESOL (Offered in the Spring; Pre-reqs include EDUC 521 & 548) This course includes an exciting opportunity to work with English Language Learners in person if you live near Geneseo or through video components if you are out of the area.
In addition to the successful completion of these 5 courses, in order to apply for the Individual Pathway for an Additional Classroom Teaching Certificate, you must:
Hold a valid New York State teaching certificate
Have 12 credit hours in a Language other than English (Including American Sign Language)
Take the Content Specialty Test in ESOL
Complete the workshops in Child Abuse, School Violence Intervention & Prevention, and Dignity for All Students
Have fingerprint clearance
WANT TO EARN AN ADDITIONAL CERTIFICATE IN ESOL* FOR GRADES PRE K-12?
