Education Officer (2 Nominations) Samantha White (III) Hi guys, I’m Sammy and I’ll be in 3rd year next year. I’m really excited to be nominating for Education Officer 2016, a position that aligns with what I value about WAMSS; connecting students with the Faculty, coordinating student feedback and advocating for change that benefits all medical students at UWA, current and future. Relevant positions I have held include WAMSS 2nd Year Representative 2015, LINCS Sponsorship Officer 2015, MeDMentor 2015 and AMSA Vampire Cup Co-coordinator 2014. These positions have honed my professionalism, organisational skills, communication skills, punctuality and enthusiasm required for a position such as WAMSS Education Officer. As we transition from MBBS to MD it is important that we have a knowledgeable Education Portfolio to tackle education issues and advocate for students within both courses effectively. I endeavour to adequately represent and advocate for all medical students at UWA by being an approachable and inclusive face of WAMSS and by working closely with my colleagues within the Education Portfolio, with an overarching goal to maintain WAMSS’ excellent working relationship with the Faculty. I hope I can count on your vote next week! Vote 1 Samantha White! :D

Richard O’Halloran (VI)

Hi everyone, I am really excited to be running for education officer in 2016. I have previously worked in the WAMSS education portfolio as a year representative and AMSA junior representative. I have also been a member of Foundation – responsible for planning WAMSS’ future direction – since 2013. My background extends to other student organisations, including being UWA Sports Council President and on the UWA Guild Council in 2013. These experiences would greatly assist me in fulfilling my role next year. As a member of WAMSS’ champion debating team, I believe I can build on the hard work of previous years by advocating for you on the key issues in education. Specifically incorporating a three-pronged attack: 1. Advocacy on student facilities at teaching hospitals. 2. Ensuring the MD clinical curriculum, including the student portfolio, is reasonable

and time-appropriate. 3. Ensuring that examinations remain fair for all students. With the many changes currently occurring within our course and hospital system, WAMSS needs leadership that is strong, experienced and vocal. I ask you for the opportunity to help ensure WAMSS remains the amazing student group it is today.

Second Year Representative (Male) (1 Nomination)

Adarsh Das (II)

My fellow colleagues, I believe I will make a fantastic 2nd year

rep, as my open-mindedness, strong listening skills and

strong work ethic (whilst also being the best looking person in

our year), will hold me in good stead in fulfilling my role

proficiently.

● What’s my experience? I’ve been actively volunteering

with SolarisCare foundation at SJOG Subiaco hospital

for the past three years, which requires the promotion

and organisation of various fundraisers such as Dry

July. I have often been involved in listening to the

concerns of patients and relay their feedback of our

services to our coordinator, which is not too dissimilar

in the role of a year rep.

● My plans: Year reps are meant to convey the

viewpoints of the whole cohort to the medical faculty, and I will work my socks off

to do exactly that. I will persevere to get their voices heard to the faculty, whether it

is to do with assessment queries, PebblePad difficulties or their transition to

clinical years. I will also play a big role in organising events such as mock OSCEs

and Halfway Dinner, and will do so diligently.

You, my friends, are priority number one. Thanks for reading!

Second Year Representative (Female) (Uncontested) Karen Bromley (II)

Hello! I’m excited to nominate to be your Second Year

Representative for 2016. In addition to my friendly,

approachable personality and good organisation and

communication skills, I believe I will make a great year

rep because:

● My Experience: I’ve had experience in

advocacy, communicating with different groups

and organising events as both a Dr YES

Coordinator (2015) and Social Officer of St

George’s College (2013). I’ve had further

experience in event organization and with

AMSA as one of the organisers of GHC2015

gala night.

● My Ideas: A Year Rep’s main role is advocacy. I want to ensure all our views are

appropriately represented to the Faculty, particularly to ensure processes

surrounding Pebblepad are fair and understandable, and the transition to clinical

goes smoothly. Year Reps are also involved in organising a number of events such

as mock-OSCES, WAMSS Halfway Dinner and semester social events, to which I

hope to add a start of year event to welcome everyone back, and more small

catch-ups during the clinical phase.

I am proud to be a part of our amazing cohort and would be honoured to represent you to

WAMSS and the Faculty. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have questions!

Third Year Representative (Male) (Uncontested)

Alex Hansen (III)

Class of 2017, I’ll be straight with you: I’m not going to rant on about enormous promises that will involve a total overhaul of the role that is the 3rd year representative. Instead I’m going to talk about 2 things that I know are important to you - the two F-words: 1. Feedback. We legit have an addiction for giving feedback – which is cool. Since we’re frolicking in hospitals I understand that you may want to give feedback in a more convenient/anonymous way. As always Google Docs are the answer. This was done once/twice in 2015 but I want to make this a regular thing. Rotation reps will also continue to be a thing. 2. Fairness. Remember the SCA-Facebook-Debate of 2015? All I remember was the number of notifications I got and for a moment thought I was actually popular/loved. This will always been an issue and I’m not going to promise I have the solution, but what I can say is that I’ll advocate for you to the Faculty to the best of my ability. Your issue = my issue, so tell me about it! Oh yeah - PebblePad – I’ll try inject some goodness into that too.

Third Year Representative (Female) (Uncontested)

Kate Wilson (III)

Hi guys!

My name is Kate and I’m running for the position of 3rd

Year Representative for 2016. Over the past year and a

half, I have been fortunate enough to meet many of the

wonderful people that make up our cohort. You guys are

an awesome bunch of people who I would be proud to

represent. As we’ve all come to realise, we are a unique

group of students who face numerous challenges being

the inaugural MD cohort.

Moving forward into 2016, as we scatter to the far

reaches of the state, there will no doubt be more issues

that require strong student representation. I have an excellent work ethic and will work

tirelessly to communicate and represent your views and opinions on any issues to The

Faculty. Additionally, I hope my approachable demeanour will encourage you to seek help

from me regarding any educational or course related issues. While I may not have a lot of

experience on WAMSS, I can guarantee I will do the best job I possibly can to represent

you in 3rd Year, because that is what I would do for my med family. So to conclude, I

hope you will vote for me to be your Year Rep for 2016 :)

Sixth Year Representative (Male) (1 Nominations) Vibhushan Manchanda (VI) I’ve been in, up and all around our year group since we started on this journey in 2011 and nothing would give me more satisfaction than acting as your Sixth Year Representative. Next year is unique in the way that, apart from fulfilling a year of academic curriculum, we’re also going to be real-life, not-student and “fully-competent” doctors at the end of it. I will undoubtedly represent you from an educational perspective but you can also rest assured that our Graduation experience will be suitably fantastic, glamorous and memorable with my wealth of experience. I’ve been extensively involved with Red Party over the past five years, have been WAMSS Vice-President External and Publications Officer and have been involved with AMSA Convention 2012 and GHC2015 when they came to Perth. These roles have given me skills in large-scale event management, graphic design, coordination of subcommittees and liaising with external bodies; all essential proficiencies for a Sixth Year Representative. If I pass the OSCE, I do believe that I will be great for the job ☺ Cheers!

Sixth Year Representative (Female) (3 Nominations)

Heather Jones (VI)

Hey Foreshers! I’m Heather and nominating for 6th year

representative.

As a large cohort, internships will be a crucial issue requiring

advocacy for both our international and domestic students. A key

goal of mine would be to ensure everyone feels prepared to work

as an intern.

Six year involves a multitude of events and subcommittees that I

would coordinate as smoothly and inclusively as possible. I’m

passionate about making sure everyone is involved in building

memories. It’s important that our year group continues to be

cohesive as we rotate through our final placements, and develop

relationships with our future colleagues.

I’m timely, efficient, professional, warm, approachable and passionate about hearing your

views and making them heard. I was sports representative in 2013, and am enthusiastic

about the work WAMSS does.

Our lives should be more than medicine and everyone should have the opportunity for

some time out, the Bachelor and a decent night’s sleep. I want to promote everyone’s

biopsychosocial wellbeing by making sixth year as fun and stress-free as possible.

Ultimately as ‘life-long learners’ we’re going to be studying and sitting exams for the rest

of our lives, so we may as well have fun while we do it!

Zoe Krisnadi (VI)

Our last year of medicine brings many joys as well as

challenges.

● Even though we’re on the home stretch, there are

still many issues we can advocate for. I would be

your voice on all things, academic or otherwise. I

will try my hardest to ensure that we ALL receive

equal and fair job opportunities.

● 6th year can be a bit scary; it’s our final year and

things are starting to get real. I will be someone you

can approach if you have any problems or opinions

that you need heard.

● 6th year is also an exciting year! There are many

things to look forward to and I aim to make 2016

seamless. I have past experience in running big events such as Allied Health and

Med Ball, and these skills will come in handy when organising exciting events like

grad week, camps and pre-intern cocktail.

I have watched our year group grow together over the past five years, from dissecting

fetal pigs to delivering babies, and I can honestly say that you have all become family and

I am immensely proud to call myself a ‘Foresher’. It would be an honour and privilege to

represent you in 2016.

Mel Still (VI)

I was going to write a really witty application, filled with jokes

and banter.* Sure it would be funny, but would it really

express all the reasons why I would love to be your year

rep?

It’s no secret we have an amazing year group. Being year

rep for you guys is actually a huge privilege and it would be

pretty special to have this role for our last year together.

I have a history with WAMSS that borders on pathological. I

love a good role with an educational slant – 1st year rep,

Vice President Internal and RCS rep. One year I went all out

and was med camp rep and I soothed my OCD soul with the

secretary gig. In total - zero years WAMSS sober.

These years have given me enough skills and knowledge to make the many of aspects of

6th year run smoothly: quality placements, job applications, intern prep, jumpers,

yearbook, sponsors, grad week (breakfasts/lunches/dinners) and internships internships

internships. Honestly, I would love every minute of it. It’s going to be a busy year, and an

especially important one for internships, but I know I can do the job justice.

*Witty application available on request.

International Officer (2 Nominations)

Jeremy Lek (VI)

I am an international student from Singapore, currently in my 5th

year of the MBBS program and I am excited to be nominating

for International Officer in 2016. Undertaking a challenging

degree in a foreign country can be overwhelming and I would

like to engage and encourage internationals to help them make

the most of their experience abroad.

2016 is a crucial year as UWA will be graduating their final and

largest cohort of international MBBS students. Having

interacted with past and current future colleagues in the

hospitals, I’ve come to understand the difficulties international

students face in terms of applying for internship and rural

clinical placements during our course of study.

My agenda in 2016 for the international students is to focus on the following.

Firstly, I intend to work in conjunction with the WAMSS leadership and advocate for

international internship allocations. It will be a priority for me to work as hard as possible

to ensure that all international students graduate with an internship in 2016. Secondly, I

intend to focus on increasing engagement of the international cohort and encourage

participation in WAMSS events. Lastly, I will help to prepare future cohorts of

internationals for their clinical years by organizing UWA workshops on key skills such as

CV writing and interview skills.

For those of you that I have not met, I am reliable, organized and pretty driven. I enjoy

being busy; I love medicine but I also enjoy things outside of medicine. I appreciate how

difficult it can be moving to Australia as an international student without friendship or

family networks and have been lucky in that I have met fantastic and supportive friends in

medicine and I want to ensure that all international students feel supported within

medicine.

If given the honour to represent the international medical student body, I promise to put

my best foot forward, and ensure that there is a voice to advocate for all the international

students.

Ellen Huang (III)

As an international student who has studied and lived in

Australia for over 6 years, I have had my fair share of tears

along the way. There is a unique set of challenges that us

international student face while pursing our dream career here

in Australia. I truly understand our strong commitment to

success, and tremendous pressure as the result of sacrifices

our families have to make in order to support our education.

I am passionate about being an International Officer on the

2016 WAMSS team, with the utmost priority to advocate for

internship opportunities for the international students. I strongly

believe that it is only justifiable when the government funds

internships for Australian-trained medical graduates, as international students have

worked so hard and we are equally qualified for internship opportunities. Furthermore, I

aim to provide better information about, and advocating for, international medical

students’ rights and career options; speaking out for international students if they face

any difficulties or troubles during their study or social life; and organizing events for

networking with medical professionals who used to be international students.

Social Representatives (1 Nomination) Joshua Wills (II), Kris Capper (III), Elyse Phillips (II)

We’re Kris, Elyse and Josh, and we like to

party.

If voted social representatives, we’d like to

continue the proud and long-standing

WAMSS tradition of partying hard. We would

like to promote increased cross-year

networking and keep the social events you

know and love forgettably unforgettable as

ever. We’re open to ideas about how to

consistently improve all events and will strive

to make them fully inclusive.

tl;dr

● Continued awesome social events

● Cross-year networking

● Fully inclusive

Orientation Representatives (1 Nomination)

Elizabeth Carr (II) and Tommy Ikonomidis (II)

We aspire to be the Orientation Events Representatives for 2016. We are 1st year MD students and are enthusiastic and excited about the opportunity to organise the social events for next year’s first year MD cohort. We decided to run for the Orientation Events Representatives because we both believe the events we were involved in at the beginning of semester had such an important part in making our first year experience a positive one. We both moved from Sydney to Perth to study medicine and this made us nervous about making friends and starting our lives in a different place. Orientation camp was a pivotal experience, as it was here we developed our closest friendships in medicine, which have grown over the past 8 months. We want to ensure that next year’s cohort get the same opportunity. Working as a team, we want to draw on Chris and Kuroush’s ideas, whilst also using our own experiences to come up with fresh ideas in the planning of orientation events for next year. We want to involve our whole 1st year cohort to find out what they liked most and least about the orientation events. Using this, we will plan an unforgettable experience for next year. We recognise the responsibilities involved in organising and running orientation events and are primarily committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all to enjoy.

Allied Health Representatives (3 Nominations)

Rama Chidambaram (II) and Katherine Ong (VI)

VOTE KAMA for Allied Health 2016! We’re Rama and Kat, and together we are KAMA and we’re excited to run for your Allied Health Representatives in 2016! Why should you vote for us? Both of us have been extensively involved in WAMSS, event management and sponsorships, with our relevant experience including: Kat:

● 5th Year Representative 2015 ● UWASS Events Subcommittee 2015 ● Red Party Committee Secretary 2014 ● 4th Year Dinner Subcommittee 2014 ● 4th Year Camp Subcommittee 2014

Rama:

● GHC Logistics Team 2015 ● Red Aware Subcommittee 2015 ● Code Green Admin Officer 2015 ● UWA Alumni Fund 2012- 2014

On top of that, we’re extremely organised and passionate people, who both love to throw parties and get involved in the partying. If we get elected next year, we promise to try to continue the amazing work this year’s Allied Health reps have accomplished, as well as increase the involvement of other allied health committees and increase sponsorship for the events. We believe more than anything, enthusiasm and being well organised are the key qualities that we possess that will help us make Allied Health 2016 a huge success. So please VOTE KAMA for Allied Health 2016! ( nominations continued next page)

Vivien Hsu (III) and Teesh Borcoski (III)

We’re Teesh and Viv and next year we’ll be third year MD students. Both of us have been involved with branches of WAMSS; Teesh as a Teddy Bear Hospital coordinator and Viv on the Elective and Exchanges sub-committee. Between us, we have extensive experience organizing large-scale events like Allied Health. Teesh has organised various events throughout and before her undergrad, including social events, parties and fundraising campaigns. Viv was president of a university student association of 500+ members and organized various events, most of which were parties (because what do we do as students if not party— study?). Many of these were of the same 1000+ attendees scale as Allied Health. This means that we know how to work with sponsors, market, promote and sell events, and most importantly, throw some crazy parties! We also have experience managing finances for various societies and projects– another valuable skill for organising an event with such financial significance to WAMSS. Everyone knows med students love to party, and we are no exception. We know how to party, and what makes a good party. Our vision for Allied Health 2016 is to create a night that’s more than just a party; we’re creating history. Jennifer Alderson (VI) and Malindi Haggett (VI)

Want to see One Direction liveat Metros? Be Taylor's groupie for a night? See Yeezus in action? Selfie with Kim Kardashian? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then be our ally in Allied Health. Vote Malindi and Jen for Allied Health Reps in 2016! With loads of experience organising big events for WAMSS behind us, we know how to throw a good party! Malindi was Allied Health Representative in 2012 and Party Coordinator for Red Party in 2013. Jen was WAMSS Social Representative in 2013 and Lookout Representative in 2014. We have lots of big ideas for the event in 2016 to help bring together thousands of allied health students from around the state. We’re both highly organised and committed to the job and would love the chance to coordinate this event in our final year of medicine! Vote for us for a good time! Medical Dinner Representatives (2 Nominations) Daniel Ross (VI), Danielle Malatzky (VI) and Tristan Trinidad (VI)

Why should you vote for us we hear you ask? Here's why: 1. We Like To Party. 2. As med students, we know that you also like to Party. 3. Our team comprises of ALL demographics known to mankind: Black Gangsta, Asian, Hipster, Gay Cowboy, Mature-students, Immature students, Veterans of War, All the single ladies, and just regular white people. 4. Whilst we are known for getting a little rekt, we are also three of the most noble, loyal, courageous, wise and honourable future Nobel Prize Laureates you will ever meet. 5. Past-WAMSS experience for daaayyyzzz: Sportz, Soshul, and more sportz. 6. We will all be final year students (fingers crossed) and we know what it takes to make this one a night to remember (or forget, if we get the chance to do the job right...)! 7. As our last opportunity to experience med dinner, we will put our heart and souls into this endeavour. You can count on us. Please Vote 1 for T-Money, D-Bag and Gay Cowboy Dan as your Med Dinner Reps for 2016. Love Always xoxo Clarissa Soh (VI), Gowri Manoharan (VI) and Katherine Ong (VI)

Hi everyone, we’re Clarissa, Gowri and Kat, and we’re excited to be running for Med Ball Dinner Representatives in 2016! This includes running BluePrint Day at the Global Health Conference 2015 (over 600 medical students), Code Green ‘Green with Envy’ Party, Red Party, and 5th Year Cocktail Party, just to name a few. We’ve had a wide range of experience in sponsorship, leadership and organisation, spanning from previous SPAMH Coordinator, 5th Year Representative to UniHall Residential Advisor.

2016 is our last year of medicine and as our final goodbye, we would love to bring you the biggest and best Med Ball Dinner yet. We will work to create a beautifully themed venue, with the best music and delectable food and drink, to celebrate a year of hard work and present a night you won’t forget (...or struggle to remember the next morning). We believe that our teamwork - with Kat’s supreme organisation skills, Claire’s professional interpersonal relations and Gowri’s eye for detail, as well as our prior experience in event management, sponsorship and organisational roles is key to succeeding in this role next year.

Sports Representatives (Uncontested) Gary Zheng (II), Tim Hardy (II), Sophie Moustaka (II), and Margriet Breytenbach

(II)

Hello everyone! We are Tim, Sophie, Margriet and Gary, and will be second year MD students in 2016. Together, we are excited to be nominating for the position of sports representatives. Our aim in this position will be to organise sporting events that are enjoyable, laid back and inclusive to all years and ability levels. Our team has been heavily involved with numerous sporting events this year, such as WAMSS footy vs Curtin physios and MSAND (Notre Dame), inter-faculty sports, inter-year events and various charity runs. Furthermore, we are helping to introduce the brand new ‘El Clasico’ soccer match against MSAND in 2015, which we hope to continue into the future. We also plan to organise a WAMSS team for the Rottnest Channel Swim! Sports is a passion for all of us, and we wish to share this with all of you. In our team, we boast a national sporting superstar, a family ping pong champion, managers of soccer teams (fantasy league), a yoga enthusiast and Sophie (who wears gym clothes exclusively). We believe that sports should be fun, easily accessible by everyone, and a great way to meet students from other years. Our team will aim to carry this vision into all events we organise as hopeful future sports representatives.

Lookout Representatives (Uncontested)

Jack Dewsbury (II) and Anwyn Pyle (II)

We are Jack Dewsbury and Anwyn Pyle, two first year MD students nominating for Lookout Representatives in 2016! Since we started working together last year as Dr YES Coordinators we have developed a working relationship matched only by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey or by Bert and Ernie. This year Jack was the Red Aware Officer, with Anwyn on the subcommittee; organising the film night, quiz night and Red Day. These positions gave us great experience in running events, liaising with formal organisations, and a real love of volunteering. Whilst attending the Lookout events this year, we have fallen in love with the exciting atmosphere and rewarding nature of WAMSS’ charity arm. We pride ourselves on being approachable and relaxed, so that we can make your Lookout experience for 2016 memorable and enjoyable. Our vision for next year is to more actively promote Lookout events to all medical students, to ensure that it is simple and easy to get formal recognition of Lookout volunteering and to seek out greater opportunities for expanding the events profile. In doing so we hope to ensure that in 2016 there is a plethora of exciting opportunities in which you can get involved.

Code Green Officer Monique Juhe (III) Hi everyone, my name is Monique and I am thrilled to be nominating for the 2016 position of Code Green Officer. As educated members of society we are all aware of the effects of climate change and the importance of operating in an environmentally sustainable manner. I have a keen interest in the natural world and as the Code Green Officer will be able to help WAMSS run events with the environment in mind. I’m talking eco-friendly bamboo plates and forks, keep-cups, take home basil and parsley pots and, of course, the Green with Envy party. I hope to organise expert speakers to talk about climate change and want Code Green to jump onboard with other WAMSS and Interhealth events to spread the green theme. Climate change, food, global health, water are intertwined issues, by improving one we improve others. I’m committed to the environment and want to help us all make a difference. Madeline Gardner (II) and Mia MacMillan (II) Climate change is a genuine threat to the health of the global community. However, there are simple and practical things each of us can do to reduce our environmental impact. For example, by avoiding disposable plastic ware, we can reduce the 1.3 million tonnes of plastic that is manufactured every year, only to be thrown out and sent to landfill. As Code Green officers in 2016, we would like to focus on delivering practical advice and running workshops, where students can get together and learn how to reduce their environmental impact, such as: - Learning to make fabric shopping bags, to avoid using plastic supermarket bags - Switching to environmentally ethical cosmetics and cleaning products - Learning to preserve food by pickling or turning fruit into jam, to avoid sending good food to landfill

- Reducing consumption of meat through campaigns like Meat-Free Mondays to reduce methane emissions and factory farming - Supporting fellow student societies in reducing their environmental footprint. Both of us feel strongly about Code Green, and believe that the committee will better represented within Interhealth and WAMSS between the two of us.

Indigenous Representatives (Uncontested) Tamisha King (II) and Heather Kessaris (II) Our names are Tamisha King and Heather Kessaris and we are first year MD students running for the 2016 WAMSS Indigenous Representatives positions. Tamisha King is a Karajarri woman from the Kimberley and Heather is an Alawa and Mara woman from the Northern Territory. We were the first UWA students to graduate with an Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing major and are both extremely passionate about the health of our people. We want to be a voice for Indigenous medical students and promote Indigenous and non-Indigenous collaboration. In the role, we hope to encourage non-Indigenous medical students’ involvement in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander affairs to improve Indigenous health collectively. We hope to provide more avenues for exchanging ideas and to be approachable for help or direction with issues relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health. We strongly believe the way forward is through collaboration and we look forward to working with WAMSS to achieve this.

Marketing Officers (Uncontested)

Tanya Ashoorian (VI) and Clarissa Soh (VI)

Hi everyone! We’re Tanya and Clarissa, and we’d

like to be your Marketing Officers for 2016.

We are going into our last year of medicine, and

over the past 5 years have developed a good

understanding of what medical students want in

terms of membership benefits and merchandise.

We’re also well acquainted with the professional

and approachable image that WAMSS has

cultivated over the years. In 2016, we look forward

to strengthening the WAMSS reputation,

establishing new relationships with local

businesses, and welcoming the new MDs and

assured pathway students into the WAMSS family.

Between the two of us, we are hard-working, enthusiastic and have exciting ideas for

marketing in 2016. We have the experience of being on the WAMSS committee, and have

been involved with administrative duties and coordinating large events both in and

outside of the faculty. We also have extensive experience and expertise in social media

(think excessive hours spent on Facebook... Instagram… Snapchat... and maybe Tinder)

and have TITILLATING plans to expand WAMSS’ social media presence.

Publications Representatives (Uncontested) Sophia Connor (II), Bojana Surla (II) and Brian Wong (II)

Hi! We are Bojana, Brian and Sophia, and we are very excited to run

for Publications Reps in 2016! We have a passion for creative

design and between the three of us, we have countless hours of

experience designing and editing publications. Being the

Publications Reps will give us an opportunity to express our

creativity and to make a contribution to the WAMSS community.

As first year medical students, we came into medicine with no idea

about what to expect and reading the first year handbook definitely

made life a lot easier. We would love to improve on this to make the

transition into medical school that little bit easier for incoming first

years. The Flux has been in need of love this year and we are keen to

bring it back so we can continue to showcase the many exciting

events and opportunities WAMSS has to offer!

It would be an honour to be your Publications Reps in 2016 and we

would love to hear all your ideas on what we could include in future

WAMSS publications!

Undergraduate Communications Officer (2 Nominations) Jane Bromley (II) The Associate Member program has a solid foundation but I believe there’s so much more potential in it, hence why I’m excited to nominate for 2016 UCO! My experience:

● 2015 GHC Logistic Subcommittee organised and reliable

● 2015 Guild Ed Council Treasurer good with money ● 2013 St George’s Intercollege Rep communication ● Attended countless WAMSS events but excited to be

more involved next year! I’ve also “been there done that” in terms of being a UWA undergrad going into med so I’ve stood in the shoes of Associate Members. But what do I hope to do in 2016? Engagement:

● Look at how we currently maintain undergrad involvement and explore new avenues like linking into the rural program, Dr YES, Lookout, and Interhealth.

● Maintain Sarah’s weekly newsletter ● Reach out to the new cohort when offers are sent (especially non-UWA students)

Events:

● Survey undergrads to see what they want to get out of being an Associate Member ● Work with WAMSS social, sports, Lookout & academic

Education:

● Investigate creating a “recommended prior knowledge” guidebook for prospective MDs Enthusiasm:

● Because if I’m not enthusiastic, how are the undergrads going to be?

Student Grand Rounds Coordinators (4 Nominations) Andrew Tompkins (VI) , Chris Lim (VI), and Victor Yau (VI)

Hi everyone! We are Andrew, Chris and Victor, and we are nominating for the role of 2016 SGR coordinators. We believe that we are not only passionate about student teaching, but have the skills and knowledge to deliver a well-run SGR program in 2016. Between us, we possess five years of SGR tutoring experience, in addition to other teaching and organisational roles. We believe this grants us understanding into what it takes to run a successful SGR program, as well as the issues that tutors/students face. We believe that our experiences leave us well-equipped to build upon the existing program and implement new initiatives to improve the quality and delivery of teaching. In 2016, SGR will encounter new challenges: SGR will need to adapt to the structure of the MD program, and create a solid foundation to hand-over to the 2017 SGR coordinators, who will be MD students. We hope to work closely with the MDII’s and MDIII’s to formulate a curriculum that addresses the needs of the MD program. We also hope to engage students earlier in their medical degree, and use SGR to promote a strong culture of teaching within medicine. (nominations continued overleaf)

Sarah Cole (VI) and Rebecca Long (VI)

We are excited to be nominating for the position of SGR representatives for 2016! So why

should you vote for us?

Well, firstly, we come with experience.

2012 Lookout Rep Lookout Rep

2013 UCO DrYES coordinator

2014 DrYES coordinator WAMSS Secretary

2015 Bailed to RCS in Albany UCO

We have both been enthusiastic WAMSS committee members throughout the transition

from MBBS to MD, including Sarah as Secretary in the first year of MD and both being

Undergraduate Communications Officer. So we’ve got good insight into the new

curriculum and what that means for you MDs!

But student grand ro unds also involve teaching clinical skills… and both have had two

clinical years under our belts. Armed with our too-cheap-to-buy-fancy-stethoscopes

Littmann Classic II and free MIPS neuro kits, we’ll be able to recruit loads of similarly

qualified tutors. Which means more learning and more opportunities for you!

To finish, here are some of our other qualifications:

● Mad iCal skills

● Each only having 4 letters in our surnames

(quick form-filling-out skills)

● We both hate having unread emails - which

me ans we deal with things promptly!

● We love teaching - we’ve both tutored high

school students and been involved in Student

Grand Rounds as tutors throughout our

degree (this is actually serious).

Hi! We are Lian, Sophia, and Andrew. We have a strong passion for medical education and have enjoyed our SGR experience. As such, we are excited to apply for SGR Coordinators 2016. This year, the SGR coordinators have organised one of the most exciting and expansive SGR program including disease-specific tutorials and targeted history sessions, which has greatly benefited the MD students. We aim to continue and improve their excellent efforts, and promote the interests and benefits of both tutor and students. We hope to receive feedback from those involved in the SGR sessions to fine-tune and tailor the programme to meet the needs of the MD students. Vote us because we have the experience and organizational skills to deliver a well-run SGR programme. Lian has been involved in SGR as a tutor, mentored MD students and been involved in other WAMSS subcommittees such planning the 4th Year Dinner. Sophia has been a student of SGR in GEMP year and found it really useful hence, wants to continue the good work. She has also been involved in anatomy teaching for MD students. Andrew has been involved in SGR this year, and is on the GPSN committee.

Danielle Everett (VI), Lauren Foster (VI) and Mel Simmonds (II)

In 2016, SGR will be catering entirely to MD students and our goal is to ensure that SGR will deliver high-quality and appropriate teaching that will meet the needs of MD students. With this in mind, we have formed a super-team comprising past MD year representative Mel and MBBS students, Dani and Lauren. Our combined experience of how the OSCE exams run, with the knowledge of the realities and shortcomings of the MD program, will ensure that we deliver an SGR program that will best equip students with the skills they need to excel. We aim to build on the existing framework and create a standardised SGR curriculum for MDI through to MDIII. In addition to the current tutorials in examination skills, we will also seek to incorporate new clinical-based tutorials in all systems as well as tutorials in ECG, CXR, pharmacology and presenting skills. We will introduce a mock-OSCE station within tutorials so that MDIII students will be able to approach their OSCEs with confidence. We will work closely with the Pebble-Pad coordinators in order to ensure portfolio recognition for both student participation and tutor contribution to teaching under the 'Educator' Theme. We will build upon the current “Teaching on the Run” tutorials and ensure that all tutors deliver consistent and clinically-sound teaching. To summarise, our plans for 2016 are:
