PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Winter has arrived. You can feel it in the air, but it is great to see the warmth of an industrious classroom, or the passion and energy of our many extra-curricular activities. With report cards just coming out, it is important to check where your son/daughter needs more assistance. Please do not hesitate to contact the school, because semester one flies by, after the winter holidays. We want all our students to achieve success, so help us make this happen. Once again the musical, “Good News - The Football Musical” was terrific, led by Mr. Soucy and his team. Over a hundred students were involved to put on these unbelievable performances. It truly is good for the soul to see these inspiring actors put it on the line with these performances. With the end of the fall sport season, we now begin with basketball and wrestling besides the many clubs that run during the school year. The last day of school before the holidays will be Friday, December 22. School will resume on Monday, January 8 where there will be nine days of learning before final assessments begin on Friday, January 19. Thank you for being great Marauders and enjoy a safe, restful holiday season filled with family and friends! Tom Sargeant Principal

CANADIAN ACHIEVEMENT TEST (CAT) RESULTS In September, all Grade 10 students in Saskatoon Public Schools wrote the Canadian Achievement Test, a national assessment of students’ essential skills in reading and mathematics. We expect to receive the results in the near future. At that time, we will be sending home the Parent Report, which outlines your child’s achievement in key skills for Reading, Mathematics, Estimation, and Computation. The information is provided in summary form and represents a snapshot of each grade 10 student’s achievement for a few hours in September. When we send out the report, we will also direct you to a short video from the Canadian Test Centre, which will help you to understand your child’s results.

COURSE SELECTION INFORMATION SESSION Do you realize that in February students in grades nine through eleven will be selecting courses for the 2018-2019 school year? Are you hoping to be kept in the loop regarding your child’s options? Parents are invited to a course selection information session on Tuesday, January 16 at 7 PM in the Walter Murray Collegiate cafeteria. At this meeting we will outline the course selection process, highlight new courses, and answer questions you may have about required and elective courses. If you will be 15 years of age and want to take driver’s education, make sure you choose it when selecting your classes.

CONTACT INFORMATION Please keep your contact information current. We would like to remind parents, guardians, and students to ensure the contact information we have on file for your family is current. If there have been any changes please notify the office at 306-683-7850 immediately so we can update our records. This would apply to an address change, telephone number, work telephone number, e-mail address (the majority of our communication is through e-mail), emergency contact information, and/or medical information. Thank you for working with us to ensure we know how to get in touch with you in the event of an emergency.

REMEMBRANCE DAY Thank you to all the students, staff, and guests who attended the Walter Murray Remem-brance Day ceremony. Many students and staff participated in the organization, the readings, the musical selections, and the technical production of the program. The silent respect that radiated in our gymnasium among our Walter Murray students confirms our young peoples’ heartfelt gratitude for our veterans’ past and present ultimate sacrifices.

THANK YOU!! The Holiday Hamper Committee would like to thank all of the generous donations made by various people in our community that helped this year’s drive become a resounding success. From businesses, to artists and artisans, to individuals who donated their time, we would like to thank you all. Your donations will help many families right here at Walter Murray this season and throughout the year. Sincerely, Janet Christ, Laura Jorgenson and Kristie Palmer

“GOOD NEWS, THE MUSICAL!” The cast, crew, and supervising teachers would like to extend a BIG thank you to the community for the wonderful support of Walter Murray’s 2017 production of the musical “GOOD NEWS”. The show involved a large number of students who volun-teered their time and talents to make the show a success. The annual fall musical at Walter Murray is a time-honoured tradition that allows many WMCI students to pur-sue their creative passions, while building self-confidence and forming lasting friendships. We played to very supportive crowds from November 19 to 25. We would also like to thank the community for the generous support of our fundraising efforts during our performances where we raised money for the charity, Stepping Stones Inc. who sponsors school building projects in the Philippines, the Walter Music Department, the Light & Sound Club and Food Hampers for families in need in our community. Thank you and see you next year!

TAKE OUR KIDS TO WORK DAY—A HUGE SUCCESS! On Wednesday, November 1, over 200 grade nine students from Walter Murray spent the day at work with their parent or another adult. The success of this program is largely due to the generosity of our business community in accepting these students into their work places. Some of the students were given special tours designed to introduce them to the many facets of the workplace. Students were safely given workplace tasks that introduced them to new employability skills. Many nearby businesses generously welcomed our young adults and gave accolades on the students’ positive demeanor and work ethic. Way to go Marauders!
