Welcome to our Meet the Teacher event. I’m So excited to start the year together and get to know your family!

Please mute your microphones before the start of our meeting. I’ll pause along the way for questions, or you can add your question to the chat box.

My name is Mrs. Kate Brannigan I LOVE teaching 1st grade!

We recognize that it is not developmentally appropriate to expect students to participate in six hours of direct screen time.

Your child will…

● Participate in 180 minutes of live instruction (synchronous) daily. During live sessions, students will interact with their classmates and teachers in Google Meet. These lessons will be recorded and shared with the class for later review and in cases of student absences.

● Participate in 180 minutes of independent learning (asynchronous) daily. During independent learning, students will complete tasks assigned by the teacher in Google Classroom. Students will utilize different platforms provided by Disney for enhanced learning.

Your child’s Daily

Schedule can be found in

their Google Classroom.

The blue underlined words are a direct link to the

Google Meet lesson. All whole group lessons use

the 104 Google Classroom Meet link. All small

group lessons have a matching Google Classroom

with a Meet link.

Exploratories

During Remote Learning, children will meet with

the same Exploratories teacher for one week.

Lessons will be part LIVE (synchronous) and part

WORK at HOME (asynchronous). I have provided a

copy of our classroom Exploratories schedule for

the first quarter in your child’s Google Classroom.

● Provide a quiet space for your child to work.● Show your child how to use features on their

need (crayons, pencil, paper, scissors, glue stick etc.).

● Eliminate distractions (TV, toys, video games, etc.).

● If possible, have your students wear headphones.

We hope to return to the classroom soon! A

plastic folder, backpack and personal supplies

will be needed for room 104!

Attendance will be taken daily by the homeroom teacher. To be marked as present, students must:

1. Log into the synchronous learning platform, either Google Meet or Google Classroom

2. Students must remain engaged and active through the duration of all synchronous learning portions of the daily lessons.

Possible evidence of engagement and activity include participating in class discussion through video or chat, completing assignments, or engaging in an ed tech tool.

A student must make-up any missed assignments and watch class recordings upon return from absence, tardy, or early check-out

In line with ISBE guidance, we will return to our regular grading system during remote learning this year, which means standard letter grades will be issued based on mastery of content.

A = 90%-100%B = 80% - 89%C = 70% - 79%D = 60 - 69%F = 59% and below

Note: Not all student work is graded. Some assignments are practice. Please make sure that submitted work is their own. This will help gauge where your child is in the learning process.

Aspen is the primary tool to monitor your child’s academic progress. If you have not already registered, please contact Disney for you child’s PIN number.
