KINDERGARTEN TRANSITION

Our Kindergarten 2020 transition program commenced last Friday and it was wonderful to see so many beautiful new students join our school. There were lots of smiles, a few apprehensions and only 1 or 2 tears but everyone took the over-whelming world of ‘big school’ in their stride. Transition continues this Friday. Thank you to Miss Pokoney, Miss Brentnall, Mrs Law-rence and Miss Geaghan for your work in providing this opportunity for our newest enrolments. Have a great week.

PREMIER’S DEBATING CHALLENGE

An Unexpected Blaze

A red, raging fire surges over hills. It glows, it groans. A lurking fire, looking for its next target.

I start to panic! A blaze is hurdling closer. As we try to escape, the inferno is chasing our tails.

“Will we make it out alive?” I thought.

Growing closer, the fire intensifies. A neighbourhood full of people screaming, shouting and

yelling. All I can hear is my own voice panicking.

The fire is racing rapidly across the land; trapping us in a cage of fire. Green grass is now

black, happy trees are now broken; wildlife is destroyed.

Blinding me, the red glow of the fire becomes brighter by the minute. Still panicking, I try to

scream but my mouth doesn’t make a sound. I try again; I have no luck.

The fire grows stronger. A blue sky is now blood red. Flowers wither and hit the ground.

The fire calmed for one split second then... Bang! It turned savage again. The burning was out

of control, it's like a flood of flames.

A wall of fire emerged, I was face to face with an angry competitor.

“I may as well just give up now,” I thought. Then courage came over me; I have to keep going,

I am strong, I am brave, I will save the neighbourhood. I must think quickly.

Thinking, thinking, thinking. My mind is blank. My knees wobble; they smash together. I fall,

then get back up.

Suddenly… my saviours emerge and are here to save me. Firefighters arrive with all of their

equipment. Now we all must do what needs to be done. Saving the neighbourhood might be

a tough challenge, but we can do this!

We band together with everyone we can find. It’s time we put our plans into action. We pick

up any water instrument we see. Together we hose down the angry monster. The wall grows

weaker - but so do we.

Out of the corner of our eye I see more people rushing out with hoses and buckets of water;

we grow strong again. The flames get smaller and the wall grows weaker. By now the whole

neighbourhood is here fighting.

We beat the fire; the wall has been destroyed. We are all so weak, but we have done it.

Years later, the grass is now green, the trees have grown back. The flowers have raised with

pride, the cotton candy clouds float proudly on by leaving a luscious light blue sky in their

place. Wildlife move back in. The neighbourhood is saved. Thank you to the effort and brav-

ery of fellow members of the community.

If you work together you can conquer anything!
