The wabo®Seismic Modular is designed to accommodate
multidirectional accelerated movements while satisfying
the day-to-day thermal requirements and life-cycle fatigue
capabilities. The system accommodates multidirectional
accelerated movement by directing seismic movements
to specifically designed support boxes and their sliding
components. This arrangement results in low stress being
imparted into the expansion joint as compared to the
high-resistant, mechanically rotating or swiveling system
designs.
The wabo®Seismic Modular has provided successful
performance during an actual seismic occurrence.
Wabo®Seismic Modular
Piereira-Dosquebradas Viaduct
Located near Epicenter, Columbia. In January 1999 an
Earthquake hit Columbia with a Magnitude 5.9 Mb
(Body-Wave) & 6.2 ML (Local Magnitude).
After the occurrence, the wabo®Seismic Modular joints
were still intact and functioning.

Wabo®ModularWatson Bowman Acme designed, built and installed the
first sealed modular joint system nearly three decades ago.
This longevity comes in part from the basic design concept
comprised of a steel multiple support bar system which
combines the strength to support traffic loads with the
flexibility to accommodate continual structural movement.
Today, Watson Bowman Acme is the worldwide leader in
the manufacture of large movement modular expansion
joints for challenging long span bridge structure applications.
Available in box and strip seal versions, the wabo®Modular
joint systems effectively seal the joint gap, while keeping
run-off water from passing through to the substructure.
The box seal system provides the ultimate in sealed
modular joint design and reliability. The strip seal system
uses an inner-locking single layer strip gland that is easy to
install in the field.

Wabo®Strip Seal Wabo®Crete Strip SealThe expansion joint transition area of a bridge deck is
susceptible to the effects of freeze/thaw, de-icing agents
and traffic impact loading. Eventually there will be
deterioration of the header, and subsequently, the
expansion joint. The wabo®Crete Strip Seal system is an
innovative and effective method for restructuring failed
joint headers or installation of expansion joints on new
construction projects.
Wabo®Crete II is a unique aggregate-reinforced elastomeric
concrete that has superior bonding capabilities to both
steel and concrete while absorbing the impact of heavy
traffic loads. Wabo®Crete II, used in conjunction with the
wabo®Strip Seal and sinusoidal anchorage, provides a cost
and time effective, waterproof expansion joint system. Easy
to install, the wabo®Crete Strip Seal system can be opened
to traffic within hours.

The wabo®Strip Seal system is a unique concept for
effectively sealing expansion joints in bridges and structures
with movements up to five inches. Elastomeric seals lock
into a steel cavity for a watertight connection.
Versatile in design, the joint system can be prefabricated
ready for placement or field assembled.
The high quality elastomeric seal element is easily inserted
into the specially designed locking cavity provided in
the steel retainers. The system can be anchored with
elastomeric concrete headers, cast into the concrete or
welded to structural steel within the blockout. Wabo®Strip
Seal heavy-duty systems are resilient and therefore, will
adapt themselves to all types of joint movements and
configurations.

Wabo®Silicone Seal is a dynamic, high performance,
two-part sealant designed for a variety of bridge
expansion joint applications. The self-levelling, rapid
cure of the wabo®Silicone Seal is ideal for joints where
anticipated movements are +/- 50% of the joint opening.
The wabo®Silicone Seal is recommended for installation
openings up to 75mm.
Simplistic in design, wabo®Silicone Seal does not
require the use of any primers and will bond tenaciously
to steel, concrete and wabo®Crete II elastomeric concrete
headers.
The wabo®Crete Silicone Seal joint system is a fast and
effective solution for repairing existing joints or constructing
new joints on bridge deck overlays. It is designed utilising
wabo®Crete II, an impact absorbing elastomeric concrete
header, with wabo®Silicone Seal, a high performance
two-part silicone seal.
Wabo®Compression Seal Bridge SeriesWabo®Compression Seal Bridge Series are pre-formed
neoprene compression seals which allow you to effectively
seal expansion joints with field-proven long life and service
capability. The elastomeric element is made of the highest
quality neoprene and is therefore highly resistant to
deterioration from exposure to weather, sunlight, oils and
impact.
Backed by over 30 years of experience, wabo®Compression
Seal Bridge Series are recommended for sealing expansion
joints in bridges, parking decks, buildings, tunnels, and
water and sewage treatment plants. The unique design
allows it to exert a continuous and uniform force against the
joint walls, enabling it to accommodate any variation in joint
width caused by thermal fluctuation while preserving water
tightness.

Wabo®GT is a molded steel reinforced rubber cushion type
expansion joint system designed for heavy traffic.
The centre section of the joint, consisting of solid ribs
in the form of a semi-circle, has the same thickness as
the joint, large enough in size to support across the joint
gap the vertical load transmitted by the vehicles, whilst
accommodating the movement required by the structure.
Wabo®GT expansion joint system accomodates
longitudinal movements up to 200 mm while transmitting
very low shear stress into the structure.
Wabo®GTWabo®GS expansion joint system consists of one or several
units made of molded elastomer reinforced by built in steel
plates. The centre section of the unit consists of solid ribs
in the form of a semi-circle, the same thickness as the joint.
The reinforced elastomeric elements are supplemented by
a steel plate across the gap. The reinforced elastomeric
units accommodate the longitudinal displacement of the
viaduct, whereas the steel plate is used to support the
vertical load transmitted by the vehicles. Due to its unique
design, wabo®GS expansion joint system produces very
low shear forces onto the structure beneath. Joints from
600 mm movements upwards come complete with an
anti-lifting device.

The Masterflex J Seal Structural sealing joint system is
well suited for a wide range of bridge and highway
applications. Masterflex J Seal creates a durable,
watertight seal that accommodates shear, rotation and
skew movements. The system’s profile will not tear away,
protrude out of, or slip down from its original position as
proven by its 20-year installation history. The Masterflex
J Seal structural sealing system offers high movement
capability based on its profile width.
The system uses a solventless epoxy to bond an
air-pressurized neoprene profile to concrete, metal
and elastomeric concrete. The watertight joint resists
deterioration from ozone, hydrostatic pressure, weathering
oil and most other chemicals. Quick installation features
allow for a structure to be returned to service very rapidly
on new construction and rehabilitation projects.
Masterflex J Seal Wabo®InverSealWabo®InverSeal is a versatile, cost effective joint seal for
soundwalls, barriers, and secondary bridge applications.
Extruded from a preformed flexible closed cell neoprene
expanded rubber, the wabo®InverSeal is bonded in place
with a specially formulated two-component epoxy adhesive
providing watertightness throughout the entire joint area
The system is capable of accommodating movements
and variations in joint width through the compression and
tension of its shape. The profile is extruded with serrated
sidewalls to provide a greater surface bond area for the
application of epoxy adhesive. The system is ideal for
vertical applications and sidewalk/curb treatments.

The wabo®Flex is a molded rubber cushion type expansion
joint system designed for heavy traffic and snowplow
loading. The Molded monolithic units are reinforced with
structural steel. High strength aluminium wear plates are
molded into the top surface and grooved to provide skid
resistance. To prevent uplift or separation, tongues and
grooves are provided to ensure a watertight connection.
The wabo®Flex system can accommodate structural
movements up to 330mm.
Wabo®Flex SRDESCRIPTION
Wabo®Flex REJ is a molded rubber cushion expansion
joint designed to accommodate structure movements from
42mm up to 330mm. The wabo®Flex REJ system consists
of molded rubber cushions which are steel reinforced.
Multiple movement grooves Split deck opening into smaller
gaps for a smooth transition. Tongue and grooves at the
end of each rubber cushion prevent uplift or separation
while ensuring a watertight connection.

Smooth ride
The wabo®Flex REJ joint system’s low profile and minimum
open surface exposure prevent debris build-up and allow
for a smooth ride. The partial confinement of neoprene
reduces deflection under traffic loading.
