Software Update Procedure
for Service
USB software update
Note
• Do not turn off TV set, disconnect it from power supply or remove USB device during update
• Stop recording before starting firmware update
• SW update process takes about 30 minutes
1. Download file Sony_tvupdate_2015_xxxx_eua_auth.zip* and unzip it
2. Copy unzipped file to root directory of USB device
3. Turn on TV set
4. Insert USB device with SW update file into TV’s USB slot
5. If SW version in USB device is newer than in TV set, SW update will be
automatically copied to TV. Message is shown on screen during copying.
6. After copying is completed, SW update is launched automatically. During update,
POWER LED will be flashing white and Update Icon will be shown on screen
7. TV will turn off and then turn back on during update
8. When SW update completed successfully message is shown on screen
9. Select ‘OK’ and remove USB device from TV’s USB slot

Service Procedure for B* Board
Replacement
1) Replace B* board
2) After AC Plug-in, wait for 30s then turn on TV by power key on TV or remote commander
One of the three cases may happen depending on the TV model and the service B* board:
Case #1: LCD has no picture and Smart Core’s LED is 3x red blinking go back to step1 (verify B
board is properly connected; order new B board if symptom persists)
Case #2: LCD has no picture and Smart Core’s LED is amber & green blinking or is white lit
proceed with step 3 below
Case #3: LCD has picture and Smart Core’s LED is white lit proceed with step 3 below
3) Update latest software by USB device
Insert USB memory stick containing software image into TV’s USB. SMART CORE LED will change to
white blinking. After completes, TV will reboot by itself and turns on. IMPORTANT NOTE: Software
update process takes approximately 30 minutes.
4) Enter Service Mode
Put TV into standby by using remote commander, and then press following key sequence (four keys) on remote commander within 1 minute: "Info (i+)" + "5" + "Volume Up" + "Power”
5) Perform Model Number Setting by Service Mode
Select “Model Information” by pressing “↑” or “↓” button on remote control, press “Enter” or “→” button to enter inside, select “Model Number Setting” by pressing “↑” or “↓” button, press “Enter” or “→” button, press “↑” or “↓” button to scroll through model number list, select correct model number (e.g. “KDL-65W855C CEI”), press “Enter” button to confirm data, and then press “Enter” button again to write data into EEPROM.
6) Update latest software by USB device
The probability that this second software update will run is extremely low, but it is strongly recommended trying it. After you insert a USB stick with latest software image, the system will auto-detect it and display the message “No newer version of software was found” (in case this update is not needed) or will automatically start copying the update onto the TV (in case this update is needed.)
7) Enter Service 8) Perform Serial Number Edit by Service Mode
Select “Model Information” by pressing “↑” or “↓” button on remote control, press “Enter” or “→” button, select “Serial Number Edit” by pressing “↑” or “↓” button, press “Enter” or “→” button, press “↑” or “↓” button to select numbers, press “Enter” button to confirm data, and then press “Enter” button again to write data into EEPROM. IMPORTANT NOTE: Serial Number can be set ONLY ONCE! Be careful not to make mistakes!
9) Perform WB/Gamma/Mura/CUC data transfer by Service Mode (for 4K TV sets only)
a) Select “Panel / PQ” by pressing “↑” or “↓” button on remote control, press “Enter” or “→” button, select “WB/Mura/CUC data transfer” by pressing “↑” or “↓” button, press “Enter” or “→” button, press “↑” or “↓” button to select “WB/Gamma data transfer”, press “” or “→” button to choose “[1.T-con to SoC]”, then press “Enter” button
b) Repeat aforementioned steps for “Mura data transfer” and “CUC data transfer” c) Press “↑” or “↓” button to select “[Start]”, and press “Enter” to start transfer
10) Perform HDD re-registration by Service Mode (optional)
Select “General Setting” by pressing” by pressing “↑” or “↓” button on remote control, press “Enter” or “→” button, select “AAA” by pressing “↑” or “↓” button, press “Enter” or “→” button, result “OK” or “NG” will be displayed after HDD re-registration is successful or failed.
Note: Perform HDD re-registration if, for e.g., during an in-home repair, a customer mentions, that he’s using USB HDD recording (*)
function and he has some recordings on HDD that he wishes to keep. You will need the customer’s HDD in question. Perform this
step with connecting HDD-USB. Repeat it until all HDDs used are registered. If HDD re-registration step is not performed, customers
will not be able to view TV content recorded before B-board replacement.
(*) A the time of this writing, USB HDD recording feature is currently not yet available to Sony android TV models. This feature will be provided through TV
software update within year 2015.
11) Press “Power” button on remote commander to turn TV off, unplug TV’s power cord from electrical
outlet, wait 10sec, plug TV’s power cord back into electrical outlet, and then press “Power” button
again to turn TV on.
10) Perform HDD re-registration by Service Mode (optional)
Select “General Setting” by pressing” by pressing “↑” or “↓” button on remote control, press “Enter” or “→” button, select “AAA” by pressing “↑” or “↓” button, press “Enter” or “→” button, result “OK” or “NG” will be displayed after HDD re-registration is successful or failed.
