Windows 7 Unofficial SP2 x64 November 2013 Release Notes What’s new in this version This version of Windows 7 Unofficial SP2 (W7USP2) includes many new features which maximise reliability, stability and security of Windows 7 operating system. 1. Internet Explorer 11 Released in November 2013, Internet Explorer 11 is the new browser from Microsoft with improved performance, faster page load times, new standards support for next generation sites, and completely revised F12 developer tools. It includes new capabilities to improve real-world Web site performance, support for the well- defined and commonly used features of the emerging ECMAScript 6 standard, support for WebGL, and high quality, power efficient HTML5 video without plugins. Internet Explorer 11 is compatible with existing sites, which just run faster and look better in IE. 2. Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 and Windows Management Framework v4.0 An update to .NET 4.0 CLR, .NET Framework 4.5.1 improves the way .NET updates are serviced and adds new features to increase developer productivity and enhance application performance. Notes: Windows Management Framework 4.0 is not compatible with specific apps. These apps may require WMF2.0 or WMF3.0 to function properly. When you remove WMF4.0 from a system updated with W7USP2, you get WMF2.0. You will then be able to install WMF3.0, if you wish to do so. When you upgrade to W7USP2 from a previous version of Windows with .NET 4.0 or .NET 4.5, that version of .NET Framework is automatically upgraded to .NET 4.5.1. 3. More than 300 request-only hotfixes are included Windows Update normally offers security updates, but not hotfixes to address bugs in the Operating system, except for the most critical ones. This hotfixes can be downloaded from Microsoft at request, and so they’re called request-only hotfixes. A normal service pack includes them, and so this version of W7USP2 does. These hotfixes fix many known issues and some of them add new features to Windows, like the Windows Updates Disk Cleanup addon.

Windows 7 Unofficial SP2 x64 November 2013

Release Notes

What’s new in this version This version of Windows 7 Unofficial SP2 (W7USP2) includes many new features which maximise reliability, stability and security of Windows 7 operating system.

1. Internet Explorer 11

Released in November 2013, Internet Explorer 11 is the new browser from Microsoft with improved performance, faster page load times, new standards support for next generation sites, and completely revised F12 developer tools. It includes new capabilities to improve real-world Web site performance, support for the well-defined and commonly used features of the emerging ECMAScript 6 standard, support for WebGL, and high quality, power efficient HTML5 video without plugins. Internet Explorer 11 is compatible with existing sites, which just run faster and look better in IE.

2. Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 and Windows Management Framework v4.0

An update to .NET 4.0 CLR, .NET Framework 4.5.1 improves the way .NET updates are serviced and adds new features to increase developer productivity and enhance application performance. Notes:

– Windows Management Framework 4.0 is not compatible with specific apps. These apps may require WMF2.0 or WMF3.0 to function properly. When you remove WMF4.0 from a system updated with W7USP2, you get WMF2.0. You will then be able to install WMF3.0, if you wish to do so.

– When you upgrade to W7USP2 from a previous version of Windows with .NET 4.0 or .NET 4.5, that version of .NET Framework is automatically upgraded to .NET 4.5.1.

Page 2: W7USP2_Nov13_RelNotes

The Windows Updates Cleanup addon enables you to completely remove traces of superseded updates and hotfixes from your hard drive. Just select “Windows Updates” in Disk Cleanup utillity and the addon will do its job. Applying all these hotfixes manually on a single system would take several hours. With W7USP2, you’re up and running in less than 30 minutes with the latest Driverpacks.net drivers for SCSI/RAID, USB3.0 and Network.

4. Installing W7USP2 on an EFI system is now easier than ever before Installing W7USP2 on an EFI system could be difficult. Now W7USP2 makes it easier to install Windows 7 on a modern PC. Just disable Secure boot and continue in EFI mode, then Windows 7 setup will run normally. The EFI bootloader is also updated with the latest hotfixes.

5. Windows 7 Enterprise version is included in W7USP2 ISO. Windows 7 Unofficial SP2 All-In-One ISO now includes the Enterprise version of Windows 7 as well. This version of Windows is not available through retail channels but it is available to corporations. It can be activated using a MAK or KMS product key. As in previous versions, W7USP2 November 2013 x64 English version includes Microsoft Silverlight and DaRT – fully updated. DaRT is an exciting set of recovery tools designed to help you diagnose and recover from several issues. The hotfix uninstaller may be particularly useful with this release, which includes many request-only hotfixes. This tool allows offline removal of a hotfix, if it makes your system crash.

Installing Windows 7 Unofficial SP2 Windows 7 Unofficial SP2 is not available in the form of an EXE or MSU installer. It’s more reliable to distribute and install W7USP2 in the form of pre-slipstreamed installation media. There exist two scenarios to install W7USP2:

– Upgrade: In this scenario, you want to get all W7USP2 components without losing your existing programs, settings and files. To do so, you have to run an Upgrade installation. You can run an Upgrade from any Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 7 SP1 machine. Note: If you had OEM installation meda (not retail images) you have to use a retail product key provided by your OEM or try to retrieve the OEM certificate and product key (applies to Windows 7 only).

– Clean installation: In this scenario, you want to reinstall Windows from scratch. To do so, you boot from Windows 7 SP2 installation media, format your hard drive and install Windows. Existing files and settings are lost.

Burning W7USP2 November 2013 ISOs This version of W7USP2 is available in the form of 2 ISOs. Each of them can be burned on a single layer DVD-R disk (DVD5 media), to create 2 DVD-ROMs in total. However, you can also merge the contents of these ISOs into a single folder (= copy the install2.swm in the second ISO to the extracted \sources folder of the first ISO) and use this folder as a base to write files to USB flash or DVD-R DL media.

– To create two DVD-R disks: Use the built-in Windows ISO burner or another ISO burning tool to burn the contents of each ISO to 2 DVD5 disks. You will be prompted to insert both disks during Windows Setup.

– To create a bootable USB flash drive Download the free, standalone Rufus USB Flash drive formatting tool (Available at: http://rufus.akeo.ie/). Run the tool and select the correct USB flash drive – make use you choose the correct drive otherwise you may lose important data during format). Use these settings: For a BIOS-based system: For an UEFI-based system:

Page 4: W7USP2_Nov13_RelNotes

Now click the icon and choose the W7USP2 ISO #1 file. (We select the first ISO because it’s the only one that is bootable). Rufus will copy the ISO bootloader and files to the USB flash drive. Click Start to begin the format. When file copying is complete, you will see DONE in the status bar. You can then click Close to close the program. Using the freeware 7-zip extraction tool, copy the install2.swm file from the W7USP2 ISO #2 file to the \sources folder of the USB drive you just formatted. After the extraction is complete, the \sources folder of the USB flash drive should contain both install.swm and install2.swm files. You can then safely remove (eject) the USB drive. You can now boot from the USB drive to install Windows 7 to your system.
