    What is phrasal verb?

    A phrasal verb is a verb plus apreposition or adverb whichcreates a meaning differentfrom the original.

    Phrasal verbs are either separable

    ornonseparable.SEPARABLE PHRASAL VERBS

    Can be separated by their object. When the

    object is a noun, it is optional whether theobject is placed between the verb and theparticle orplaced after the particle.

    Ex. Raymond tookhis shoes off.

    Raymond took offhis shoes.

    However, when a pronoun is used instead of

    a noun, the pronoun mustbe placedbetweenthe verbandthe particle.

    Ex. Raymondtookthemoff.

    (NOT Raymondtook offthem.) But in one type of sentence, separable

    phrasal verbs mustbe separated when thephrasal verbhas two objects:

    Ex. Fonz putablanketon the bed.

    (NOT Fonz put on ablanketthe bed.

    NONSEPARABLE PHRASAL

    VERBS Come from when you come from a place,

    you were born there or lived there previously.When you come from a family or social

    situation, your past experience helps toexplain yourpresent attitudes and behavior.

    Ex. Manny comes from Alaska, so he's usedto cold weather.

    Jane had a difficult childhood. She camefrom a broken home.
