Rendered in vivid watercolor where parquetfloors and patterned dresses morph together,Wrong Place revolves around oft-absent Robbie,a charismatic lothario of mysterious celebritywho has the run of a city as chaotic as it is re-splendent. Robbie's sexual energy captivates theattention of men and women alike; his literal andfigurative brightness is a startling foil to the drea-riness of his childhood friend, Francis. With ahand as sensitive as it is exuberant, Brecht Evens’sfirst English graphic novel captures the strangechemistry of social interaction as easily as he por-trays the fragmented nature of identity. WrongPlace contrasts life as it is, angst-ridden and awk-ward, with life as it can be: spontaneous, uninhib-ited, and free.
BRECHT EVENS is a cartoonist, visual artist, andmusician based in Belgium.

Continuing Drawn & Quarterly’s John Stanleyarchival series, Melvin Monster Volume 2 isabout the oddball monster boy who just wants tobe good, go to school, and do as he is told. Asatirical and funny sendup of the 1960s monstercraze of the 1960s, Melvin Monster is a classickids comic of the Silver Age.
Stanley’s reputation as a great storyteller and vi-sual comedian is richly deserved—few golden- orsilver-age comics stand the test of time the waythese comics do. As with all volumes in the JSL(Nancy, Thirteen Going on Eighteen), covers andinteriors are designed by the award-winning car-toonist Seth, who is the designer of the bestsellingPeanuts archival collection.

“One of the most promising of a new generationof cartoonists, Huizenga's stories use a combina-tion of the quotidian and the surreal to explorethemes of science, nature, religion and family.”—TIME
“With art that ranges from clear-eyed cartooningto swirly expressionism, Huizenga takes his char-acters through poetic explorations of the pro-found.”—WASHINGTON POST
Standing out amongst his contemporaries, KevinHuizenga is the leading cartoonist of his generationwhose subtle mastery of the medium has earnedhim countless accolades and awards. Huizenga’scomics are at once straight-forward and experi-mental, serious and funny. His character is the sub-urban everyman Glenn Glanges, a modern dayDagwood Bumstead who tackles and stumbleswith such heady topics as mysticism and science.
In WILD KINGDOM, Glenn Ganges blindly interactswith the nature of his suburban neighborhood:dead house plants; a recipe for grey squirrel brain;and pigeons eating discarded french fries in theparking lot of a fast food joint. Huizenga juxta-poses Glenn’s ignorance of his surroundings withtelevision commercials highlighting society’s needsfor cure-all pharmaceuticals and “hot new things”like teeth whiteners. Starting off wordless, WILD
KINGDOM grows more complex page-by-page,ending with encyclopedic entries, biographical ex-cerpts, anthropologic flow charts and a cata-clysmic encounter of nature and technology.
KEVIN HUIZENGA lives in St. Louis with his wife; heis the author of the graphic novel Curses and thecomic book series OR ELSE and GANGES.

world of airbrushed hosers
RECOMMENDED AGE LEVEL : 1 6 +
Seth Scriver’s work is filled with lumpy men andwomen plucked from rural Canada—thick mus-taches, plaid shirts and winter caps exchangingnon-sequiturs and one-liners. AirbrushedGarfields, packs of wild dogs, flocks of birds, andmore packs of wild dogs race through Scriver’spaintings and drawings. Part of a crew of Cana-dian doodlers (like-minded folks such as MarcBell (HOT POTATOE, THE STACKS), Peter Thompson(LUCKY ELLO), Amy Lockhart (DIRTY DISHES) andKeith Jones (BACTER-AREA), Scriver exemplifies amodern cartoon painting aesthetic—a type of fan-tasy world created through a stream-of-con-sciousness drawing style. His drawings present apalpable view of a hectic world in which cartoonbears and hunters engage in slapstick adventures.
SETH SCRIVER, born and raised in Toronto, hasexhibited widely nationally and internationally. He attended the Nova Scotia College of Art andDesign and received an interdisciplinary Bachelorof Fine Arts.
