Chapter 1 Introduction to Single Site Verification

In WCDMA RNO, completing automatic check and test of functions of equipment in eachsite is necessary and ensures that the basic functions (such as access and call) of eachcell and site in the area to be optimized are normal. By single site verification, you canachieve the following goals:

To distinguish the call drop and access problems due to poor coverage from thosedue to equipment performance. This helps locate and solve problems in later stages, and raise efficiency of networkoptimization.

To familiarize the site location and configuration, the ambient radio environment. This helps engineers in the following optimizations.

Single site verification involves the following aspects:

Parameter setting check in idle mode Services call (AMR/VP/PS) function check in connected mode HSDPA function check CPICH RSCP&Ec/Io Installing problems check (whether the feeder is reversely connected)

This document includes the following content:

Chapter 1 introduces the goals and content of single site verification. Chapter 2 provides the basis processes and work division of single site verification. Chapter 3 describes the methods for single site verification in each stage with

Nastar4.0 and Huawei U626 test UE. describes the tasks and methods for single site verification of RNO engineers

based on Probe1.3. Chapter 5 concludes the whole document.

    Chapter 2 Basic Processes

    2.1 Working Process

Figure 1.1 shows the flow of network optimization. According to the figure, after sites areconstructed and tested, the network optimization proceeds to the single site verification

stage. Single site verification includes automatic test of equipment functions for cells andin this stage you check whether the equipment of each cell functions normally.

When all the cells in the area to be optimized pass single site verification without functionproblem, the single site verification ends. Consequently, optimization proceeds to RFoptimization stage.

    3.1.3 Testing Point Selection

    I. Aim to Select Testing Points

To ensure that the services to be tested are provided by the cell to be measured, youmust test cell equipment functions by selecting a test point meeting the followingconditions:

Where the signals of target cell are strong Where the signals of other cells are weak

II. Methods for Selecting Testing Points

To ensure that the services to be tested are provided by the cell to be measured, themost ideal method is to disable power amplifiers of other cells except the cell to bemeasured. In this situation, no requirements are on the testing points.

If you cannot disable the power amplifier of other cells, select a testing point near thecenter of the cell, with line-of-sight distance to the NodeB. In this way, the signals arestrong enough and do not fluctuate. For a macro cell, select a testing point 100 metersfrom NodeB in the direction of major transmission of cell antenna, with line-of-sightdistance to NodeB.

After on-site engineers complete the basis verifications of equipment functions, the RNOengineers do the following tasks:

Coverage DT Check HSDPA Access Function Test Antenna Diversity Check (if specified by customers)

RNO engineers can verify areas by cluster according to new site distribution.

    4.1 Preparations before Test

    4.1.1 Cell Status Confirmation

Before checking site, you need to inquiry product support engineers whether alarmsexist, whether problems are solved, and whether the cell is in normal status. You mustpay attention to intermittent alarms (such as, transmission alarms automatically reset, butthis causes network to become unstable and affects services)

    4.1.2 Testing Route Selection

Before test, you must select a proper testing route according to site distribution and localenvironment, with principles as below:

The testing route needs to cover the coverage are of primary serving cell to bemeasured as possible, as well as all major street around the NodeB to bemeasured.

The testing route involves consideration of local driving habit and avoids waiting fortraffic lights during testing.

Figure 1.1 shows the schematic drawing of route for verifying and testing area.

    4.1.3 Precautions

Testing cell coverage and HSDPA access function in area verification requires a quickschedule. If the method is improper, the test of an index might terminate due to one ortwo abnormal cells. For a proper schedule, you must read the details of test, know the

content, and avoid wasting time due to abnormalities.

You must pay attention to the following aspects:

Connect HSDPA terminal and scanner by a laptop and ensure normal work oftesting equipment and testing software.

Control the HSDPA terminal to call PS services continuously with testing softwareand check whether the HSDPA access of the cells to be tested functions normally.

Control the scanner to measure RSCP and Ec/Io of CPICH with testing softwareand check the downlink coverage of the cells to be tested.

In test, the car moves at a speed of about 30 kilometers/hour. It slows down or stopsby street or road when passing the primary serving cell to be measured or in thefollowing situations:

    Abnormal HSDPA access function

Abnormal testing equipment Poor CPICH RSCP of a cellIn case of the previous situations, record the abnormalities and continuous the test. When the test is complete, verify the abnormal cells and solve problems.

You must check for the following problems:

    Abnormal power amplifier

    Abnormal connection of antenna-feeder

Inconsistency of antenna tile/direction angle from planned one

    Blocking by buildings

You must ensure that the downlink rate for defining a subscriber by USIM is greater thanthe HSDPA threshold of downlink BE service.

    II. Automatic and Continuous Call

Control the testing software to call PS services automatically and continuously by PSDialUP in Probe. The details are as below:

    1) Select Configuration > System Config > Test Plan.2) Select UE in the Device dropdown list.3) Click TestItem, as shown in Figure 3.1.

    4) Select PS DialUP and set parameters as below: (PS DialUp) Enable = true PDP type = ppp PDP APN (China Mobile Monternet) = cmwap

Traffic Class = Background NeedHandUp = true

Reserve Time = 30s (recommended) Test Time = 999 (recommended) Interval Time = 5s (recommended)

III. Setting Items in Layer1 and Layer2

Check the hardware configuration and port in Probe. Add the items to be measured inLayer1 and Layer2 related to HSDPA in Log Mark. Otherwise, the system does notrecord them and the data related to HSDPA is not displayed in the three windows ofHSDPA. You can configure it as shown in Figure 1.1 and Figure 1.2.

    Probe 1.3).

The HSDPA threshold of downlink BE service is defined as the rate judgment thresholdof background/interactive services loaded on HS-DSCH in PS domain. If the maximumdownlink rate of background/interactive services in PS domain is greater than the HSDPA

threshold, the HS-DSCH is used for loading. Otherwise, DCH is used for loading. Youcan query the threshold by executing LST FRC on RNC LMT.

By information updating of testing window related to HSDPA in testing software, you canjudge whether the service maps on HS-DSCH. If it is an R99 service, the HSDPA-relatedwindow does not display data or the data is not updated. For example, in the window ofWCDMA HSDPA Link Statistics, you can see the testing information as shown in Figure1.1.

    4.4 Antenna Diversity Check

Check antenna diversity as required by operators accordingly.

    4.4.1 Aim

Check whether the antenna for receiving diversity signals is reversely connected.

    4.4.2 Method

The following paragraphs describe methods for checking antenna receiving diversity.

    I. Fixed Maximum Transmit Power of UE

In the cell to be measured, if the UE transmits signals at the fixed maximum power (someUE supports transmitting signals at a fixed power, such as Huawei U626), the RTWP of

the cell to be measured and the neighbor cells increases. When the UE connects to thenetwork in the direction of major lobe in the cell to be measured,

If the diversity receiver antenna is correctly connected, the RTWP of thecorresponding cell increases only and the RTWP of neighbor sectors changes less.

If the diversity receiver antenna is improperly connected, the RTWP of other sectorsalso increases.

In this way, you can judge whether the diversity of the receiver antenna is problematic.

The following paragraphs are based on Huawei U626 test UE and describe the steps forchecking antenna diversity by the method Maximum Transmit Power of UE.

    1) Use two U626 handsets to dial each other for VP service.2) In a cell of the target NodeB, press the keys * and #, as well as the left navigation

key to start engineering mode. Select Transmitting at the Maximum Power in

the Specified Frequency, type the frequency number to complete settingTransmitting at the Fixed Maximum Power.

    3) Start measuring RTWP of each cell of the target NodeB on RNC LMT.Figure 3.1 shows the RTWP without subscribers in antenna diversity check.

Figure 3.1 RTWP without subscribers in antenna diversity check

    4) Move the UE around the NodeB and stop in the direction of major lobe of the threesectors.

Check the measured RTWP on RNC LMT. Check whether the RTWP of thecorresponding sector increases sharply compared with that of other sectors. If yes,the antenna diversity receiver is correct. If no, the antenna diversity receiver mightbe incorrect and need checking and locating for problems. Assume the UE campson cell 10111 (Cell ID = 10111), the RTWP measurement result of correct antennadiversity receiver is as shown in Figure 4.1.

By comparison ofFigure 3.1 and Figure 4.1, if the antenna diversity receiver is correctand the UE camps on cell 10111, the RTWP of cell 10111 changes apparently while thatof rest two cells changes a little.

Assume the UE camps on cell 10111. Figure 4.2 shows the measurement result ofincorrect antenna diversity receiver.

By comparison of Figure 4.2 and Figure 3.1, when the antenna diversity receiver is

incorrect, the RTWP of both the cell 10111 and 10112 (neighbor) changes apparently. This indicates that the receiver diversity antenna is reversely connected.

II. Checking Antennas by Exchanging Feeders

Connect the Tx/Rx feeder to the Rx ports and the Rx feeder to the Tx/Rx port. In Figure1.1, part A shows the original connection and part B shows the antenna after exchanging

feeders. Compare the CPICH RSCP before and after exchanging feeders. If they are thesame, the problem is not about reverse connection of antenna feeders (normally afterexchanging feeders the difference of CPICH RSCP before and after exchanging feedersis less than 2 dB).

Figure 1.1 Test by exchanging antenna feeders

When you check antenna diversity receiver by exchanging feeder antennas, the antennaconnection is as shown in Figure 1.2.

Figure 1.2 Schematic drawing for checking receiver diversity

    4.4.3 Remarks

The method for UE to transmit signals at the fixed maximum power is a recommendedmethod of test and operation, but it is restricted from whether the UE supports related

functions. To exchange antenna feeders, you must repeatedly adjust the antenna-feedersystem. Adjustment requires abundant labor and is difficult to implement, so engineers

must cooperate well with each other in test.

    4.5 Solving Problems

If RNO engineers find problems about product function, such as originating or terminatingfailure, call drop, quality of talk, they must retest to check whether the problem occursagain. In addition, RNO engineers must ask product support engineers to solve problemsand tracing the solving of problems until problems are solved and closed.

If the problems are about engineering installation, ask on-site engineers to solve them.Meanwhile RNO engineers must trace them until they are solved and closed.

Chapter 5 Conclusion of Single Site Verification

In single site verification stage, engineers check whether equipment functions normally.Single site verification is a basis for the following RF optimization and serviceoptimization. On-site engineers must cooperate well with RNO engineers to ensurequality of projects.

On-site engineers complete the verification by test UE in idle mode and connected mode. The content of verification includes:

Frequency check Scramble check LAC/RAC check CPICH RSCP check and CPICH Ec/Io check near NodeB Connection check of AMR/VP/PS services in connected mode

RNO engineers complete the verification based on distribution of new site. The content ofverification includes:

DT test HSDPA access functions test Antenna diversity check (if specified by customers)

If all verifications about function are accepted, the single site verification is completed. Ifany problem about product function is found, engineers must locate it and retest. Aftersingle site verification, optimization comes to RF optimization.

Compared with WCDMA RNO Single Site Verification Guidance, this version has thefollowing content changed:

Add the divided work for on-site engineers and RNO engineers, regional site verification, and HSDPA function test.

Redesign the whole document and enhance operateability. On-site engineers and RNOengineers can complete all single site verification tasks according to this document.

The SMS service verification involves intelligent network, so it is excluded here. It is alsoremoved from Single Site Verification Checklist Template.

Whether handover involves function or performance is difficult to decide, so it is excludedhere. It is also removed from this document.

HSDPA throughput involves performance, so it is excluded here. This document requiresyou to verify HSDPA access function.

The reselection between 3G and 2G and test of voice services handover between 3Gand 2G involves working efficiency, and it is difficult to divide them as a function or

performance problem. Therefore they are excluded here. It is recommended thatengineers verify single sites by special optimization in system function verification stageor parameters optimization stage. In this new version, this part is removed.

In antenna diversity check, resetting uplink service SIRtarget involves parameters related

to RNP and is not recommended. Therefore this part is removed.

The RTWP test is unrelated to single site function verification, so it is excluded.

The antenna diversity check is not a routine task in single site verification, and it istriggered by test specified by operators.

The requirements on division of responsibilities for single site verification are just raised. This document is a conclusion of engineers' opinions and the operateability of the book isnot tested, so it must be tested in on-site engineers.

The precondition for this document is as below:

Based on Nastar 4.0 and Huawei U626, on-site engineers describe the working methods

in each stage. Based on Probe 1.3, RNO engineers describe the testing methods forsingle site verification.

This precondition restricts the document by applicable range. Common users can verifymost common single sites according to this document. Inexperienced engineers must beguided by experienced ones if the on-site testing tools change.
