A LETTER FROM THE BOARDIt is our sixth year of having the World Leaders Form here at our “awesome” Judson University. Our dream has grown and will continue to impact our students, faculty, community and the world we live in by continuing this speakers program. Our students are so very fortunate to have the opportunity to hear from world leaders right on the campus of Judson University, a small Christian school in Elgin, Illinois which many call the gem of the community. Many business leaders in the Fox Valley area are proud to continue to sponsor the World Leaders Forum as the goal of excellence continues. This past April Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan was our sixth keynote speaker. It was a pleasure to listen to her views and opinions in her quiet, soft spoken manner. The Queen’s visit was a first for the city of Elgin in hosting royalty and emphases the value of the World Leaders Forum to the Fox Valley community.

Last October 2015, the World Leaders Forum launched the Inspirational Series with Nick Vujicic, of Melbourne, Australia, founder of Life without Limbs. This event was an outstanding success!!! Nick brought tears for many in the audience with his amazing life story of how he faces life without ever using hands, arms, legs or feet. That is because he was born without limbs. I am confident that our speaker for this second Inspirational Series, Mary Lou Retton, an American gymnast and Olympic champion, will also thrill our audience. Mary Lou will inspire us with her message of faith, optimism and leadership. I know this event will also have great success and will continue the mission and vision that the World Leaders Forum. In the fall we also welcomed an additional five new WLF Scholars to Judson University and it has been a pleasure to engage with them and encourage them in their entrepreneurial endeavors. It is my honor and privilege to serve the World Leaders Forum, as we continue to encourage and promote our students to attain excellence in this global world. Sincerely,Merrie DerderianVice Chair, World Leaders Forum, Inc.

OUR VISION AND MISSIONThe World Leaders Forum began in 2011, with the goal of bringing a world renowned speaker to the Judson Campus, to give students a chance to hear an inspiring message, take an active interest in the framework of leadership, understand how leaders develop, and even ask questions and seek advice from someone who has made a global impact on our world. The goal of the World Leaders Forum is to provide a worldclass learning opportunity for the Judson University community and the communities we serve in the Fox River Valley to include our hometown of Elgin. The proceeds from the World Leaders Forum support the Judson University Entrepreneurial Studies Program, which is presently in development, and scholarships for Judson students to include the World Leaders Forum Student Scholars program. This is one of the most prestigious scholarships that a Judson University student can receive. Over the past six years the World Leaders Forum has raised over $2.4 million.

The Entrepreneurial Studies ProgramJudson's School of Business and Professional Studies launched its accredited MBA program in 2013. As a step in creating a distinct entrepreneurial program, Judson is now offering an entrepreneurial certificate that can accompany any traditional undergraduate degree. The university is also researching development of a distinctive entrepreneurial program within the higher education sector that does not duplicate its existing programs.

MARY LOU RETTON | OCTOBER 10, 2016Mary Lou Retton took the gymnastics world by storm in 1984 when the vibrant young woman won the All-Around Gold Medal in women’s gymnastics at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, Calif. Altogether, she went on to win five medals, the most wins for any athlete during the 1984 Olympics. This trailblazer, who was named “Sportswoman of the Year” by Sports Illustrated in 1984 and became the first woman ever to appear on a Wheaties cereal box, was also the first gymnast and youngest inductee into the

USOC Olympic Hall of Fame. Now retired from the sport, Retton is a motivational speaker, corporate spokesperson and fitness ambassador. She has had parts in television series and films, worked as a sports commentator and authored a book. She currently serves as national chairperson of the Board of Governors of the Children’s Miracle Network. Retton and her husband, Shannon Kelley, have four daughters.

NICK VUJICIC | OCTOBER 12, 2015Nick Vujicic, who was born in Melbourne, Australia, with the rare disorder Tetra-amelia syndrome (characterized by the absence of all limbs), was the first person to keynote Judson’s World Leaders Forum Inspirational Series. During Vujicic’s 45-minute presentation, he spoke of embracing God’s love and finding hope and redemption even amid hardship and despair. Among the dignitaries in attendance were Hollywood character actor Doug Jones and film director Josh Weigel. Vujicic’s presentation encouraged the crowd. Later that night, he took time out to attend an on-campus VIP event, where participants got the opportunity to take photos with him and receive a signed copy of one of his books.

In addition to being a powerful speaker, Vujicic is also a best-selling author, who unabashedly shares his faith. He has also done some film work, including being featured on the short independent film, “The Butterfly Circus,” and the focus of the TLC Network’s one-hour special, “Born Without Limbs.”
