So lets begin, welcome to the ’Space’ focus week:
Lets start with our: morning prayer, date selection, 7 days of the weeks song and lets listen the planets song we learnt last time on
You tube; the Solar system song. Try and remember so key facts about each planet or star.
I would like everyone to transform into a space invader or an astronaut before we start our Space mission and get into our rockets:
wear a home made space suit, hat, googles, or make a paper plate mask, you good even just put your coat on with your hood up.
Once you are ready little explorers we can BLAST OFF, Jump into your rockets, strap yourselves in, hold on, and Lets all count down
from 10 to 0, on 0 we launch into the sky,

Home Learning pack
WB 4th May 2020
Physical Development- enables kids to discover and develop some of their talents through fine and gross motor movements.
Keeping active is very important to increase our: fitness, concentration and boost our self esteem, most importantly, it
encourages a better night sleep!
1. Cosmic kids yoga mindfulness: Mike and Muttnik on the moon, Mike the comic space monkey, space stories for kids or
space picnic
2. Create a Rocket, Alien or Planet using playdough or salt dough or clay
3. Solar System Scavenger Race– design your planets and get your grow up to hide them around the house, in things, on
things, behind things, the harder the better, takes longer! Ha
4. Rocket Ship Rings– make paper rockets just like a paper plane, than hand up some hoops and you have to fly your
rocket into the hoop
5. Asteroid Collecting—hunt outside for “asteroids” (rocks). Once they have gathered a bunch of them, let them sit at a
craft table and paint them with neon-colored paints. When the paint is dry, divide the players into two teams. Have one
team hide all of the asteroids and challenge the other team to find them. Once all of the asteroids have been found,
switch sides, so everyone gets a turn at both hiding the asteroids and finding them.
6. Moon Walk Stimulator- let your astronauts bounce around, practicing for future spacewalks.
7. Don’t drop the Asteroid- the little space explorers must keep all the asteroids (balloons) up in the air while the music is
playing. When the music stops they all grab an asteroid and you call out a colour. Whoever has that coloured asteroid
must pop it and complete the challenge inside to win a prize.
You’ll need balloons of all different colours, and challenges to put inside them before you blow them up. Challenges
should be simple such as:
Do the moon walk across the floor
Sing or hum your favourite song in a funny voice
Say your abc’s backward
Stuff marshmallows in your mouth and sing twinkle twinkl little star
Pat your head while rubbing your stomach
8. Ring Saturn- The little explorers have a blast trying to ring Saturn. Set up a beach ball as the planet Saturn and challenge the
kids to toss a hula hoop and try and ring Saturn. Let them try from different distances to add to this theme challenge.
9. Moon Rock Race- This game is just like the “Egg on spoon race” but instead have rocks (moon rocks!!). Make an obstacle
course for your children to navigate around.
Numeracy- is the ability to apply maths concepts in all areas of life. Numeracy skills involve understanding numbers, counting,
solving number problems, measuring, sorting, noticing patterns, adding and subtracting numbers .
1. Hide drawings of your different space items: alien, rocket, astronaut, space food, satellite, planet, star, sun or moon.
Adults to attach a maths challenge on them: count to 10, count backwards from 20, clap 15 times, 1 more than 2 is, 2+2=
2. Make some planets and number them, mix them up, put them in the right order.
3. Draw a 2D shape rocket or go on a shape Hunt, what shapes can you see around your house
4. Frozen peas are a good maths resource for counting, addition and takeaway– pretending your buying (addition) or eating
(subtraction)

6. Twinkl search– EYFS space maths– get a lot of maths challenges, the Activity books are an excellent resource.
7. Number pouch Activities– identification & formations, 1 more 1 less, 2 more, 2 less
8. Maths addition/subtraction equations using dry Alien food to help. (1+4=) (?+3=5) (2+?=6) (10-4=) (?-1=4) (8-3=)
9. . Keep practising your positional language: practise ON, UNDER, NEXT TO, BEHIND, ABOVE, BELOW. Hide the Alien, where is
the…..? ’’its behind the television’’
10. start to think about doubling– 2x table (originals not my rising 3s)
11. watch number blocks– a number a day– than look at how to make 10 (number bonds)
12. Roll a moon Dice and get the children to tell you the number rolled. Extend that by getting the children to roll two dice and
add them together. Challenge them by getting them to write down the equation 1+1=2 or do a subtraction equation. Use fingers
or objects to aid with the counting.
13. Collect items to sort and compare, which include objects which are identical, and which include objects of different kinds or
sizes. collections with a large number of things, and collections with a small number of things. Than discuss more or less and has
the same amount concept.
14. Homemade maths games for families (see attachment)
Literacy- includes talking about books, print in the environment, early mark making and writing, as well as sharing books and
reading.
1. Read any stories together that are about Space. Get the children to try and tell you what the story might be about by
looking at the front cover. Allow the children to tell you the story by using their imagination and looking at the pictures.
2. Space words: rocket, ship, rock, moon, planet, man, encourage your child to sound words using robot arms & sound
buttons . Your child may like to illustrate each word, put that word into a sentence or write a caption ‘’I go up’’
’’A rocket’ A big rock’ Please remember use finger spaces, full stops and capital letters and form the letters correctly.
1. Adults cut of word cards, children to build and read the sentence, see below for photo.
2. Alphabet space Challenge: You need to do is call out a series of letters or show your children letters on a board for a few
brief seconds then have them write a word associated with that letter or just shout our a space word ’’A for Alien’’
3. Play this ICT game to watch letter formation in a fun interactive way. Watch, copy and repeat on your own.

1. If you have some paintbrushes you could 'paint' the wall, fence etc outside with water in a small bucket. Draw a pet
using circles and lines.
2. If you have some chalks you could draw pictures on the ground of a pet and label it.
3. Keep practising your name, than move onto any middle or surname.
4. Go to your very own ‘Dough Disco’ or just create a playdough pet using the playdough I sent you home with, and have a
fun dough disco! Get those finger muscles growing ready for super writing.
5. Initial sound of different objects and animals: what does cat begin with? C, what does lizard begin with? L etc.
6. Can you label or caption a drawing of a pet
7. Think about rhyming– what 2 or 3 words rhyme together. TWINKL has some lovely rhyming flash cards and activities.
8. Talk about syllables of the pets animals, clap them out, say: ‘’chicken’’ chick-en, clap 1,2, or ‘’duck pond’’ d-u-ck p-on-d

Understanding of the world & Religious Education It involves guiding children to make sense of their physical world and their community
through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology, and the environment.
1. Research on your iPad or laptops, space facts, where do we live? Your address? Nans address? Which planet do we live on? Can
we live on mars?
2. Talk about similarities and differences between Earth and the other planets.
3. Continue to learn about the Easter story, this is the last week of Easter before we start to look into Pentecost and the month of Mary.

6. Star Gazers- Give each child an empty toilet paper tube. Cover the end of the tube with a piece of black paper. Let the children gently
push a toothpick through the black paper to create tiny holes. Give the children markers to decorate their scopes. To use them, have the
children hold their scopes up to the light and look through the uncovered end. This will look like a mini-planetarium. Research star con-

Phonics- Phonics is a method for teaching reading and writing of the English language by developing learners' phonemic awareness—the
ability to hear, identify, and manipulate phonemes—in order to teach the correspondence between these sounds and the spelling
patterns that represent them
1. Alphabet Bingo: create your bingo cards on A4 using different letter sounds (phase 2 or 3) than have a egg box with little pieces of
paper which each sound scrunched up.
2. Sound cups and pompom– find the pompom by saying the letter sound first. See attached photo cut and stick the sound cards slide
onto the cups.
3. Sound splat– place letter sounds on the floor, use a fly squatter or spoon to hit the ‘spoken’ sound. See picture below

3.—car flash cards– match the word to the picture, odd and bob

Expressive Arts and Design- is used to develop a child's imagination, creativity and their ability to use media and materials. Children do this
in range of ways including singing songs and making music, dancing, playing with colours, textures and design.
1. Set up a rocket ship craft station with basics like paper towel tubes, cardstock paper, scissors, tape, coloured markers, aluminium foil,
and metallic stickers. Have kids use these items to build and decorate their own rocket ship models.
2. Playdough Fun—Make stars and planets from playdough. Also use playdough as a backdrop for the sky and add glow in the dark stars
3. Rockets— Make a cone shape from construction paper and tape to make a rocket ship. Paint it silver, add glue and glitter stuff with
colorful shredded paper with some strips dangling out the bottom. Run your rocket ship with you through the sprinkler and imagine
you’re traveling through an ice crystal shower on the moons of Jupiter, cool spots of the universe
4. Challenge the children to walk, run, skip, hop, gallop, leap, and crawl through space. Go for a long nature walk on the moon and see
what kinds of imaginary items children discover. After they return from their visit to outer space, have them close their eyes and try
to remember what the life forms looked like. When they open their eyes, they can describe them, draw them on paper, and dictate a
description for you to write

2. complete the scavenger Hunt– once object found, talk about it, what’s its purpose, describe it. (see attachment below)
3. put an toy inside a box play ‘’what’s in the box’’ you have to give 3 clues to describe the animal and the other person has to guess what it
is. Take turns on describing the animal.
5. complete the home learning timetable (see attachment)
6. play ‘’follow that instruction ‘’can you jump 2 times and clap your hands’’ can you go into the garden touch the fence and run back’’ (make
it easy with 1 instruction, harder with 2 or 3 instructions at once)
VE Day Celebrations
