I am very delighted to mention that I am part of the Ooruni
teaching program because I truly believe that this gives me
valuable experience and self-satisfaction. Primarily, I got
involved in this Ooruni teaching program as an English
teacher because of the annual examinations that were
conducted by the Jaffna Hindu College Association Canada
in 2018. Moreover, the examinations were very well
organized and encouraged the students to do well in their
studies as well. I participated in the annual examinations
when I was in grade 12. Since I got first place in the
examinations and got an opportunity to take part in the
award ceremony where, the organizer of this examination
contacted me about the Ooruni program and found that I am
willing to teach the students from Mallavi Girls’ Hostel.
As a person who was born and raised in Sri Lanka, I truly
got motivated to teach the students after knowing the need
of English for them. I started to be more passionate to help
the students in Sri Lanka to be prosperous in their future,
after meeting them in the first class. This is how I got
involved in this program as a teacher. I certainly enjoy
interacting with the students while teaching them and
knowing about their skills, passions and talents. I have great
hope that they will be successful in learning English in a
moderate amount of time too. I enjoy when I see them
improving, asking questions and clearing their doubts as
well.
I am very blessed to be involved in this precious program
and I often admire this service of Jaffna Hindu College
Canada Association because it gives me pleasure and
gratification whenever I teach them. The students are also
very blessed to be part of the Jaffna Hindu College
Association Canada. I am also motivated by this association
to help as much as I can, to improve the learning of people
in need even in the future. Whenever I go back to Sri Lanka
I would definitely meet the students and do something that I
can for them. After all, I am glad and determined to further
continue with this program to help as much as I can. I once
again would like to express my heartfelt thanks to JHCA
Canada Ooruni team for recognizing me and believing in me
that I can do it. We should all work together to support this
invaluable service of Jaffna Hindu College Canada
Association and make this program to further develop and
help the students in Sri Lanka.
