The following is a rare hymn on Lord Shiva seeking the removal
of all kinds of accrued
sins. Though this is a prayer on Lord Shiva, all forms of the
Almighty are invoked during the
prayer for the removal of sins. This is available in Linga
Purana, Purva Bhaga and Chapter 82.
It is claimed that this hymn was originally given to Lord
Subrahmanya by Lord Nandikeshvara
who later gave it to Sage Vyasa who received with rapt attention
and who in turn gave it Sage
Suta.
The brief Phalashruti given at the end of the hymn stands
embodiment to the sanctity
and efficacy of this prayer:
One who recites or listens to this prayer gets absolved of all
sins and reaches the
abode of Lord Shiva.
In this world, the chanter gets fulfilled of all his/her
rightful wishes such as spouse,
victory in endeavors, wealth, progeny, knowledge, comforts,
relief from diseases
arising out of Vata and Pitta doshas, etc. quickly. The chanter
never sees a serpent
or untimely death.
This hymn is capable of bestowing Punya multiplied by crores of
times one could
accrue by bathing all holy waters, performing all Yajnas, giving
all possible in
charity (dAna), observing the choicest of Vrats (Penances),
etc.
This hymn can absolve the deadliest of sins like killing of cow,
Brahmin (i.e. Sage),
refugee, trust in a friendship, mother, father, etc.
