Today’s Game• Davidson closes the 2009 season with ahome contest against PFL opponent Marist Sat-urday.• It’s Senior Day, and Davidson will honor its19 seniors prior to the game.• Davidson will also present Dave Fagg, aDavidson graduate, former football coach, for-mer radio color commentator and longtimeDavidson fundraiser, the Hendrix Award at half-time. The award is presented annually to aDavidson football letterman who, by the use oflessons learned on the playing field, has goneon to achieve outstanding success in his chosenprofession.• Davidson is 11-6 in Richardson Stadium in itslast 17, and 11-6 against PFL competition in itslast 17 league games at home.• The ‘Cats own a 13-8 all-time mark in confer-ence games at Richardson Stadium.• The ‘Cats are 15-14 in their last 29 PFL con-tests and own a 21-23 all-time PFL record.• The Wildcats are allowing just 16.9 points and284.5 total yards a game in seven league con-tests.• Davidson is coming off a 34-27 victory at SanDiego. Series Record• The Red Foxes posted a 24-19 victory in thefirst meeting between the schools, which tookplace last season at Richardson Stadium.• Marist running back Bo Ehikioya rushed for222 yards and three touchdowns, and the RedFoxes held off a late-game rally by Davidson.• With his team trailing by 12 points, Kirk Kon-ert caught a 22-yard touchdown pass fromRyan Alexander with 1:07 left on the clock. The sophomore alsohad four tackles, including two solo hits.• Kidwell’s three interceptions are tied for thesecond most in the PFL, and his 105 returnyards off the picks rank first. It’s the most inter-ception return yards for a Wildcat since JimCarney had 121 in 1999.• The league named Davidson senior Alex Gris-wold its Defensive Player of the Week followinghis performance in the Wildcats’ victory overMorehead State Oct. 10.• Griswold had two sacks, three tackles for lossand two forced fumbles against the Eagles. Thedefensive lineman collected six total tackles, in-cluding five solo, and added a pass breakup.• He has four forced fumbles this season, themost since Mark Wilkerson had four in 2003.

Two ‘Cats Named Academic All-District• Davidson football players Aaron Saltzman andPeter Kidwell have been named first-team ESPNThe Magazine Academic All-District III in a voteconducted by the College Sports InformationDirectors of America (CoSIDA). • The duo will advance to the national ballot forAcademic All-America Honors.• Saltzman carries a 3.49 grade point averageand is majoring in political science.• Kidwell has a 3.33 grade point average.

Head Coach Tripp Merritt• Fifth season, 23-27 (.460), 16-16 in PFL games(.500).• Coached his 50th career game at DavidsonNov. 7, 2009, a 34-27 Wildcat victory.• Born with spina bifida occulta, which resultedin deformities in his lower spine and nervedamage in his left leg. Doctors told his parentshe would never be able to run. He was a two-sport lettermen at Burns High School and still

runs 3-4 miles daily. • 2006 PFL Co-Coach of the Year. The firstDavidson bench boss to earn ConferenceCoach of the Year honors since Homer Smith in1969. • In his second coaching stint at Davidson hav-ing served as an assistant for the ’Cats for sevenyears (1993-99).• Served as defensive coordinator beginning in1994, and the Wildcat defense ranked fourthamong I-AA (now FCS) schools in total defenseand second in scoring defense in 1998 as David-son won eight games, then a school record. • After another eight-win season the followingyear, Merritt left with head coach Tim Landis forSt. Mary’s (Calif.) for three years, then Bucknellfor two seasons.• 1990 graduate of Charlotte.• Collegiate coaching career began as a gradu-ate assistant at Western Carolina from 1991-92.• Graduated from Burns High School in 1986and coached at Garinger High School in 1990.• He and his wife, Sara, were married in July of2007 and reside in Davidson with their daugh-ter, Ellie.

No. 1,000• The Wildcats played the 1,000th game inschool history at San Diego Nov. 7.• Davidson topped the Toreros 34-27.• With 50 wins from 2000-09, the Wildcats haverecorded more victories in this decade than anyother in school history.

Claw Marks• Davidson didn’t commit a turnover at SanDiego Nov. 7. It’s the second game this seasonthat the Wildcats have been turnover free (Jack-sonville, Oct. 3).• Running back Kenny Mantuo rushed for a ca-reer-high 147 yards against Butler Oct. 31. Itwas the first game in which he rushed for over100 yards but Davidson lost. His 61-yard run inthe third quarter was the longest since John
