Vril -- A Force to Reckon With

Star Wars popularized the concept of The Force, a mysterious
energy field that pervades the entire universe. But this idea is
not something invented by George Lucas. Joseph Campbells Hero with
a Thousand Faces directly influenced Lucas screenwriting. Campbell
was a New Age Hindu and that philosophy permeated all his
writings.
An important part of that worldview and in much of Asian
philosophy is the concept of an inner energy source: Chi, Ojas, or
Astral Light, also sometimes known as Orgone or Vril. Anyone who
has taken karate or judo will recognize the similarity between chi
and The Force. By harnessing your chi properly you can strike
harder and more accurately, and increase your own endurance. But
Lucas took the idea much further than a simple energy
reservoir.
In his movies The Force is an external source that can be tapped
by the properly trained Jedi masters to perform fantastic
superhuman feats. This is somewhat different than chi, which lies
within oneself. It is more in tune with the New Age concept of
Vril, an external force that can be tapped to perform fantastic
superhuman feats. In The Secret Doctrine, the foundation document
(their Bible if one can use that term) of the New Age, the author
Madame Blavatsky comments:
There were portions of the Secret Science that for incalculable
ages had to remain concealed from the profane gaze. But this was
because to impart to the unprepared, multitude secrets of such
tremendous importance was equivalent to giving a child a lighted
candle in a powder magazine.
The answer to a question, which has frequently arisen in the
minds of students.We can understand, they say, the necessity for
concealing from the herd such secrets as the Vril but we cannot
understand how any danger could arise from the revelation of such a
purely philosophic doctrine.
The danger was this: Doctrines such as the planetary chain at
once give a clue to tremendous occult powers, the abuse of which
would cause incalculable evil to humanity No clue perhaps to the
present generation protected by their very blindness and ignorant
materialistic disbelief in the occult; but a clue which would,
nevertheless, have been very real in the early centuries of the
Christian era, to people fully convinced of the reality of
occultism, and entering a cycle of degradation, which made them
rife for abuse of occult powers and sorcery of the worst

This almost sounds like one of Yodas warnings about how training
in the use of the Force needs to be restricted to those who can
properly handle it.
The Vril Force or Vril Energy supposedly emanates from the Black
Sun (the symbol of which illustrates the cover of this pamphlet) a
sphere of Primal Material in the center of the earth that puts out
radiation in the form of Vril.
In the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry a
holder of the 28th degree is known as a Knight of the Sun. The
inner, occult Black Sun is the one referred

to, not the bright one in the sky the masses are familiar with.
Albert Pike (a former Grand Master of the order) referred to Vril
as,
one most potent force, by means whereof a single man, who could
possess himself of it, and should know how to direct it, could
revolutionize and change the face of the world. [The Vril Society:

Thus Vril is supposedly responsible for psychic powers,
everything from telekinesis to precognition to remote viewing. It
is the actual force that bends those spoons and transmits those
mental images. Seen this way the feats performed in the movies by
the Jedi make perfect sense. But with such power available for
good, as Madame Blavatsky warned (or was that Yoda?) there is also
much potential for harm in the hands of the untrained.
In the same way The Force has a light side and a dark side, so
does Vril, another indication the two are simply different names
for the same. According to Jean-Claude Frere, author of Nazism and
Secret Societies, speaking of the ancient Aryans....
Apparently there were two factions (as in Hyperboria), one of
which followed the Golden Sun and the other the Black Sun the first
preserved the center of Agartha, that undefined place of
contemplation, of the Good and of the Vril force. The second
supposedly created a new place of initiation at Shambhala, the city
of violence in command of the elements and human masses, hastening
the arrival of the charnel house of time. [The Black Sun and the

The first actual mention of Vril in Western literature was
Edward Bulwer-Lyttons 1871 science-fiction novel The Coming Race.
The book described a subterranean world inhabited by the Vril-ya, a
god-like race of supermen, the descendants of the lost civilization
of Atlantis who control a mysterious energy force with their minds.
The Vril-ya were to someday emerge from beneath the earth to regain
their rightful place as the Master Race. Humans could either become
their slaves or else master the secrets of Vril and be transformed
into Homo Noticus, the superman.
Bulwer-Lytton is popularly known more for penning Snoopys
favorite line, It was a dark and stormy night but actually had more
influence on twentieth century geo-politics, religion and
philosophy than anyone then living, including the philosopher
Fredrich Nietzsche, who also wrote of a coming superman. The Coming
Race directly influenced Madame Blavatsky, the arch-prophetess of
the New Age.
Aleister Crowley was a member of the same secret lodge as
Bulwer-Lytton: the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. [Other
members included the Nobel prize-winning poet W. B. Yeats and Bram
Stoker, the author of Dracula. Source: Blue Fires: the Lost Secrets
of Nazi Technology, Gary Hyland, pg11] The ideas in The Coming Race
and much of Crowleys writings are so similar it is difficult to
determine who was the greater influence. Bulwer-Lytton was also a
Rosicrucian and in contact with the Freemasons through Crowley.
The Force traces its linage directly back to the Golden Dawn and
perhaps further to the Rosicrucians, Masons, and Knights Templar
they claim esoteric descent from. As

Blavatsky asserts in The Secret Doctrine, there are no new
religions. The founders were all transmitters, not original
teachers. They were the authors of new forms and interpretations,
while the truths upon which the latter were based were as old as

But those ideas didnt stop with the Golden Dawn. Two decades
after the founding of that order, a new society was organized in
Bavaria that combined the political ideals of the Illuminati with
Hindu mysticism, the Cabbala, Blavatskys Theosophy and
Bulwer-Lyttons ideas. The Vril Society (or Luminous Lodge as they
also called themselves) was the first German nationalist group to
use the swastika as their emblem. They believed they had secret
knowledge that would enable them to harness the latent powers of
the Vril to restore Aryan man to their former position as the
dominant race.
The Vril Society followed a path of political involvement in the
same manner attributed to other secret societies. [If you believe
the conspiracy theories about the influence of the Illuminati and
Masons. If not, you might find The Truth About Conspiracy Theories
eye opening.] In the same way a Mason rises through various
initiations into successive degrees, uncovering new layers of
enlightenment, the Vril Society became the inner controlling layer
of a whole series of other societies, beginning in May 1912 with
the establishment of the German Order and later the Thule Society,
innocently billed as a literary and cultural society. However, both
met in the same Four Seasons Hotel in Munich and both shared many
of the same members.
The Thule Society was the physical arm, the Vril Society the
inner, spiritual one. [The symbol of the Thule Society was a dagger
superimposed upon a swastika.] By 1918 they had a combined
membership of more than 1,500, including many influential members
of the German government and society. According to Unholy Alliance
[Unholy Alliance: a History of Nazi Involvement with the Occult,
Peter Levenda, 2005, pp32-37] the event that pushed them directly
into open political involvement was the Communist revolution in
Bavaria at the end of the First World War. The Freikorps of
recently discharged veterans that crushed that revolution marched
against it under the Vril Societys swastika banner.
This process culminated in the founding of the German Workers
Party in 1919. And while shortly thereafter the Vril and Thule
societies disappear from history, Rudolf Hess, a senior member of
the Thule Society shared Hitlers prison cell after the Nazis
attempted coup in 1923 and later became Hitlers deputy fuehrer.
Many other senior Thulists also became senior members of the party
and SS.
In the 1930s one of them, Rudolf von Sebottendorff wrote a book,
Before Hitler Came describing the early history of the Thule
Society and how the occultists had created the Nazi party. But
secret societies like their secrets kept that way and he ended up
in a concentration camp. [Unholy Alliance: a History of Nazi
Involvement with the Occult, Peter Levenda, 2005, p77]
Heinrich Himmlers castle, the Wewelsburg in Westphalia, which
was used by the Nazi elite as an occult library and training
center, had as its focal point in the great hall an inlaid
twelve-armed swastika, a representation of the Black Sun, the
source of their vril power.

The German government currently bans the display of this ancient
Hindu symbol, as a Nazi-era symbol. As Blavatsky previously noted,
modern societys blindness and ignorant materialistic disbelief in
the occult has clouded their understanding of supernatural truths.
They believe the philosophy that caused the deaths of fifty
millions was original to the Nazis and perished in 1945.
Hitler himself wrote about the evolution of this new race of
mankind, Homo Noticus:
The New Man will have giant stature, glorious physique, and
superhuman strength. His intuitive powers would transcend mere
intellectual thinking. He will manifest magical faculties including
powers of speech that all lesser mortals would be powerless to
disobey. All spirits between heaven and earth would obey. Such
Supermen will become the elite of the earth, Lords of all they
survey. No power on earth could prevail against them. They would be
the Sons of the Gods....
Creation is not yet complete. Man must pass through many further
stages of metamorphosis. Post-Atlantean man is already in a state
of degeneration and decline, barely able to survive. All creative
forces MUST be concentrated into a new species. The two types of
man, the old and the new, will evolve rapidly in different
directions. One will disappear from the earth, the other will
flourish. This is the real motive behind the National Socialist
Movement!
From this secret societys efforts to achieve supreme political
power and their desire to create a new Master Race of magic users
it would not be inaccurate to describe their leader, Adolf Hitler,
as the real Dark Lord of the Sith.
Today the idea of vril lives on as The Force. The concept has
been popularized both by the Star Wars saga but also as the third
and fourth insights of The Celestine Prophesy [by James Redfield]
and the teachings of the Falun Gong.
In our post-Christian society the Jedi Religion is now the
fourth largest in Britain [390,000 Jedis Are There, National
Statistics Online, 2002, Stastics.gov.uk, 20 Nov 2002] and as of
2001 was the second most common affiliation selected in a
government poll of religious preference in New Zealand. [Jedi Order

Who knows how vril may continue to influence our lives in the
future?
