At Interfaith Food Bank, we look for volunteers who have a passion for community and recognize the privilege it is to serve those in need.

Our mission is to recognize the human dignity of those in need and to provide food and access to services and resources generated from within our community. We cater to those in a variety of situations, ranging fromsingle-parenthood,toseniorsonfixedincomes,to the under- or unemployed, and to those with other social or economic barriers.

We began providing emergency food services to citizens of Lethbridge and area in 1989. We have grown exponentially since that time, as the community recognizes, assesses and attempts to satisfy the needs of those in crisis. Our programming has expanded to also include The Second Door Thrift Store; The Interfaith Chinook Country Kitchen; and

Interfaith Learning Garden, offering opportunities for garden education, and produce for our programs.

We cannot do this work on our own, and that is where youcomein.Asarecognizednon-profit,charitableorganization, all of our resources come from the generosity and investment of the community. It is with the help of people who desire to build community and become involved in the development of it that we are able to operate, and even exist. People like you.

Our community focus includes not only the families we serve, but also the volunteers who enable us to offer the services we do. We work hard to create an encouraging and enriching environment that our volunteers will want to keep coming back to, and a team that they can be proud to be a part of.

Special Events, Projects, Groups & Program RequirementsFor those interested in a shorter or occasion-based commitment, there are other ways to be involved:

Casualvolunteersassistwithspecificprojectsthataretypicallyorganizedbyoutsidegroupsforthebenefitof the Food Bank. Most often our role in these projects is to facilitate the collection of donations, assist with promotions and/or to provide volunteers for various shifts & duties. Occasionally, the Food Bank hosts a project day (i.e. Garden Build Day) or an event (i.e. pancake breakfast), which requires casual volunteers as well.

Casual volunteers are placed on an email list and contacted to inquire about their availability for specific events or projects. These projects & events can also be great opportunities for corporate or community volunteer groups.

We also offer limited placements for school groups, students needing credit hours, and community members participating in the Fine Option or Alternative Measures programs.
