VolumeCheck Technology

VolumeCheck is a volume inspection

system utilizing a non-contact sensor to

measure the distance between the

sensor and the sample meniscus in a

tube or well plate

– Output data is the distance measured

between sensor and solution level

Sensor Measures:

Sensor-to-sample distance

Example: 15mm = 350uL

VolumeCheck Applications and Customers

• Typical Application

– Production monitoring system

– Quality control system

– Compound or sample library

volume/inventory management tool

• Typical Customers

– XL20 customers with no scale

– Reagent/Oligonucleotide Synthesis

– Compound sample laboratories

– Biobanks or Tissue banks

VolumeCheck Consumables

VolumeCheck operates

with SBS standard:

– 96 well

– 48 well

– 24 well

– 12 well

– Must be uncapped or

uncovered

VolumeCheck Hardware Features

Hardware Features

• One non-contact sensor

• Detects volume in uncapped well plates and

tube racks

• Works with water, alcohol, DMSO, and other

common laboratory solutions

• Labware needs to be greater than 41mm in

height – rack adapters available

Two Models

• VolumeCheck 100 - One minute per rack

• VolumeCheck 50 – 3 minutes per rack

Page 7: VolumeCheck Overview

VolumeCheck Hardware Features

• Accuracy: +/- 10mL in 1.4mL tube

• Accuracy: +/- 5mL in PCR plates

– Accuracy dependent on the type of consumable used

– The VolumeCheck sensor detects meniscus surface

– Conical and V-Shaped well plates will return accuracy ratings at smaller volumes

because less volume is needed to achieve a consistent meniscus.

Conical V-Shaped Flat-bottom

VolumeCheck Calibration Curves

Plate Data Creator

Utility

– Calibration Curve data

collected

– Plate Maps

– Curve Fitting Tools

Page 13: VolumeCheck Overview

VolumeCheck Calibration

Distance from the sensor to the

sample corresponds to a known

volume level

– Curve represents data points of

known volumes vs. distance

measured

– Curve fitting tools help to fine-tune

data for best accuracy

VolumeCheck Calibration Curves

VolumeCheck system resolution

may be influenced by:

Differences in labware such as

conical, v-shaped, or flat-bottom

well plates and tubes

Droplets on the wall of a tube or

well

Air bubbles in sample

Plate-to-plate dimensional

variations

Curve should closely represent

the concentration of samples
