Exciting News from our Merger Committee
By Ron Reaguer Merger Committee Chair
Their attorney will form the new corporation Liberty Road Faith
Fellowship and facilitate the process of each of the existing corporations
deeding their halves of the ownership to that new corporation. Our
attorney will oversee the process to see that things progress smoothly.
This is the answer to many prayers but is not to give our combined
congregations the impression that the job is finished. Our challenge to
grow our church into a meaningful part of God's kingdom is just
beginning and will take the prayers and efforts of each of us to achieve
that goal. Together, I am confident we can do it.
The merger committee is happy to announce
that starting June 4th the congregation of
LRCC will be joining us at our 11:00 A.M.
service and from that time forward on a
permanent basis. This comes after weeks of
discussion and negotiation and is a giant step
forward in the growth and future of our
church. Their tithes and offerings will be
combined with ours beginning on June 4.

Our next Men of Faith Breakfast will meet on Saturday, May 20, at
9:00 a.m. in Kearns Hall. We welcome The “Voice of the Wildcats,”
Mr. Tom Leach, as our speaker. Our SURPRISE speaker will be
Vince Marrow, former NFL Tight End. Mr. Marrow is the Recruiter

UK’s Football Program and how much it is improving because of
recruiting efforts. He is not going anywhere! And we are so fortunate to

Sunday Service - Celebration of the Past, Challenge of the Future - 11:00 a.m. By Liz Berryman, for The Pastor Search Committee
Will we make it? Will we be alright? Will we continue? Yes, we will.
This is the third time I’ve written these words to this congregation. It is
difficult for a small, independent congregation to stay afloat, and this is
especially true when situations arise that can break the very backbone of a
church. The first was when the Board voted to eliminate the associate
pastor’s position because of financial reasons. What would we do without
his pastoral care and all the duties delegated to him? We developed a Care
Ministry Program that would make any church proud. It is now divided
into ministry teams who pray, share, and fellowship together. The second
occasion was when Albin and Katie took a position with a church in
Louisville. Some thought we would not survive. It was a big loss and a
personal loss for many of us, but we wished him well and we continued
because we were determined to survive. Richard Dwyer took the position
and we were off on another adventure. The loss of Dr. Turner is one of
the most heart-wrenching losses we may ever experience as a church. This
is an adventure we did not want to take.
This Sunday the worship service is titled “Celebration of the Past,
Challenge of the Future.” We want to remember Bill through music,
through two speakers who knew him outside of this church, and a
message that will challenge us.
I know that all of us have grieved and will continue to grieve even as we
consider how to choose a pastor. However, Bill prepared us for this event
for eight years. He taught us how to have a deeper faith; he taught us
about God’s grace; he educated us in the Scriptures. He prepared us

spiritually to work together for the greater good of this congregation.
His wish was for us to find a permanent home that would allow us to offer
a variety of programs for the diverse interests of a diverse congregation.
We accomplished that under his guidance. He taught us that laity was
vitally important for a church; we already had experience because before
Dr. Turner came to preach for us, we were all laity doing every task
because we had no one else. He encouraged lay people in every way
possible and was appreciative of everyone’s gifts. His plans were to
prepare us and help us find another pastor to follow him. This did not
actually happen, but he has us prepared to work together to make this
church strong in its outreach, strong in its care for other people, and strong
in the love of Christ that should permeate every decision we make,
especially this one.
Dr. Turner would tell us that the church is the people; it is not one person,
but the people who make it a church. That is our challenge. Dr. Turner
told some of our members to “hold the fort.” We already know how to do
just that. So, the answer is still "Yes" to the question – "Will we be
alright? Will we make it?" We will be fine because we are going to stick
together as a church, continue the ministries we have, and praise God each
day and each Sunday that we were fortunate to have Dr. Turner and
Earlene to guide us, creatively look out for us, heal our hearts, and soothe
our souls. We owe him no less.
See you Sunday to celebrate Dr. Turner and look toward the future.

If this Editor gets to pick a prize it would be difficult because they all look so good, but I believe I would have to give the prize to Pat Potts (pictured below).
