children, Taylin 11, and Aidan age 9. Adam has followed in his father’s footsteps and is a policer office, presently working in the Detective Bu-reau.

Dominique retired from UPS in 2005 and Robin retired that year also. Dominique continued to coach baseball and help out with Casa’s football program.

In 2012, Dom went to work as a Campus Security Supervisor at Casa Grande, where he works today. After 25 years, Dom retired from coach-ing baseball in 2017. At the end of the season the North Bay League awarded Dom, baseball Coach of the Year. Quite an honor.

Dominique and Robin stay busy traveling, trailering, gardening and sports. They love watching their grandsons play Little League and trav-el ball and their granddaughters dance at studio C and do competition dancing.

In June Robin and Dominique celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary.

Editors note—Piner High School opened in the fall of 1966. Dom was one of the school’s first outstanding athlete in football, basketball, and track. Robin was one of the school’s earlier leaders as a class officer and cheer-leader. Both were also involved in other club activities at Piner as well.

WANTED: Committee Members for the Piner High Athletic Hall of Fame and the Piner High Foundation. These two organizations are looking for alumni, retired staff, or supporters to fill many positions that will be vacated in one to two years. The Hall of Fame meets once a month on the second Wednesday of the month in the PHS Administra-tion building. The Foundation meets on the same day and at the same location, following the HOF meeting. If you are interested in giving back to your school, or you are a friend of Piner High and would like to help with a variety of different positions that need to be fill, please call 571-7420 for additional information. Working with former classmates and/or making new friends on the committee is not only fun but also rewarding. There has been a small group of Piner High alumni, teachers and administrators who have been volunteering for these two organiza-tions since they started in the early to mid-2000’s. Though they have had many good times together, many are now ready to let others take over and continue this important and rewarding work.

DON’T MISS OUT ON OUR UPCOMING 12th ANNUAL CRAB FEED

Last January we had a near sold out crowd, along with one of our best revenue years for the crab feed’s 3 non-profits—the Piner Boosters, the Piner Foundation, and the Piner Hall of Fame. The money raised by these organizations goes towards sports equipment, sustainable classroom supplies and and equipment, along with honoring past outstanding athletes in an effort to bring back Piner Alumni to get involved in helping Piner continue to prosper.

Tickets for our upcoming Crab Feed on January 27, 2018, will again be available at any Oliver’s Market, starting in early November. Our price will be $55 per person (still one of the lowest in the county). Dinner includes appetizers, salad, bread, pasta, crab, dessert and coffee or tea.

The Piner High Boosters are also looking for someone to assist with collecting auction items for our upcoming Crab Feed in January, and then taking it over next year. Judy Poulsen and her friends have done an outstanding job at this po-sition for the last 6 years. She has a system that works very well in which someone could easily follow her. Unfortunately, like most vol-unteers there comes a time when people need to move on and enjoy other things in life.

ON APRIL 19TH PINER HIGH SCHOOL DEDICATED THE LIBRARYto the school’s first English Department Chair and long time educator, Dick Latimer. Mr. Latimer, who died on June 20, 2014, was a cherished teacher, men-tor, colleague and friend throughout his many years at Piner High School. He moved to Piner when it opened to serve as its first English Department Chairman, hiring and mentoring many of Piner’s early teaching staff. His teaching mastery, wit, calm demeanor, and mentorship continue to be deeply valued and admired by Piner students and colleagues. After retiring from three decades of teaching, Mr. Latimer earned his paralegal certificate and spent more than a decade as a legal adviser with the Sonoma County Council on Aging. He also volunteered as an intake worker at a Catholic Charities of Santa Rosa homeless shelter and later served as an aide at Luther Burbank Elementary School in Santa Rosa. As his wife stated, “He made a tre-mendous difference.” In attendance at the dedication were former Teachers, Princi-pals, students, current teachers, and as well as Mr. Latimer’s family. Piner’s Culinary students catered dessert.

Mrs. Maureen Latimer, wife of Dick Latimer for 53 years, speaks at the dedication. Seated facing forward are left to right, Ms. Pam Devlin (retired principal) and Ms. Ilene Traverso (retired teacher).

THE PINER HIGH FOUNDATIONIt’s that time of year again to renew your PHS Foundation membership for this school year—Fall 2017 thru Spring 2018. If you’ve never joined, but have been enjoying the Alumni Newsletter over the years, now’s the time to help to contribute to the success of Piner High School. The Foundation has contributed over $70,000 to Piner since the Foundation began in 2003. Your $20 membership along with any donations are tax deductible to the extent of the law under our 501(c) (3) non-profit status. The monies received by the Founda-tion got to help our teachers obtain classroom equipment and supplies, which enhances student learning, that teachers wouldn’t have otherwise. The Foundation also pays for half the printing and mailing of the Alumni Newsletter, with the Piner Hall of Fame paying the other half. We are now online at our website pinerhighfoundation.org, if you would like to use a credit card. or refer to page 7 to mail in your membership form or donation.

Thank you again to Tony Walls and Jason Stephenson for their near monthly donations. Thanks also goes to those who made an extra donation beyond their annual membership. They include, Bill Coset, David Hayne, Wayne Rasmussen, Sally Bimrose, Matt Dillon, Lorna Fox, Lynn Benoit, Rachel Daniel, Jani Krambs, Jill Thach, Larry Schalich, and Casey Hillman. Thank you also to Edna Gaddie who made a donation in memory of Katie Robinson, whose son played basketball for long time Coach Mike Gaddie.

A Special Thank You goes to the Schulz Celebrity Golf Classic, the tournament Chairman, Rich Coombs ( a 1971 Santa Rosa High Graduate) and his committee members who chose the Piner High Foundation as one of their five non-profits to receive funds from their tournament fundraiser last year. We received a check from them for $2,500. This will help continue the success of the Foundation’s efforts to support and enhance the outstanding teaching at Piner High School.

The Schulz Celebrity Golf Classic is a one-day golf, dinner, wine, and social event, at Mayacamas Golf Club that is focused on providing charitable support for children’s organizations.

.On a Sad note, three people from the class of 1974 recently passed away in July this year. Kathleen Kelly passed away on July 8, 2017, in Glendale, Arizona. Dan Lamberson passed away after a long battle with heart disease on 7-29-17, in Santa Rosa. And we were advised Betty Mitchell-Meyers also passed away this summer.

Stadium Lights Update. Due to a variety of factors, the Piner High Stadium Lights project has been extended and is currently planned to be completed on January 15, 2018. But that will depend on weather and soil conditions, which could delay the project. If the Board approves of the win-ning bidder at it’s September 13 meeting, the contractor has 10 days to get all the necessary paper work to the school district. Material is then expected to be ordered by September 25 at the latest.
