“Me and My Guy” Dance Theme
It’s a umpah loompha night!
This year we decided to let the fifth grade girls vote on the theme
for the “Me and My Guy” Dance.
They had four themes to select from and over half of the votes
went to Willy Wonka/Candy Wonderland theme.
We hope all of the girls and their guys can come join us on
February 22nd for an evening of sugary fun.

JACKSON YOUTH WRESTLING PROGRAM
Participants will learn the fundamentals and basic skills necessary to be successful in the sport of wrestling.
These skills are taught in a positive and enthusiastic manner by our volunteer coaching staff. Our wrestling program
is led by High School Coach Mr. Rocky Laughlin, Middle School Coach Mr. Brian Marcelli,
and Head Youth Coach Mr. Jim Bostic. Mr. Paul Heston is the President of our Jackson TakeDown Club.
Competition is an integral part of any wrestling program. We believe that we are building the foundation for a high
school program that will be considered one of the premier programs in Northeast Ohio as well as the state as a
whole. It is our goal to help our children grow and develop vital skills necessary to succeed on the wrestling mat as
well as everyday life. Key values such as sportsmanship, character, positive attitude, discipline, self-confidence, and
hard work create the core of this successful program. The key to any good ending is a strong beginning.
We believe this program will set the stage towards a successful and rewarding life for all our children.
Practices will be held for First and Second year wrestlers on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm to 7:30pm at the
Middle School. Our more experienced wrestlers (Varsity level) will practice Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from
6pm to 8pm at the Middle School.
Our first practices will be on Monday, November 5 and Tuesday, November 6, depending on your level. If you have
a question on which day to start, please ask! Practices will continue into the first of February.
League matches will be held at GlenOak High School in North Canton on Sunday afternoons. The first league meet
is in late November and runs through to January.
Our newer wrestlers will be involved in “All Star Saturdays”: special competitions designed to educate and build
skill levels. However, a wrestler does not have to compete in any matches if they choose.
Those dates for the “All Star Saturdays” are yet to be determined.
All Forms are available online.

A Note from the Principal’s Desk…..
Lockdown Drill
In accordance with state mandates, we recently conducted a lockdown drill at Sauder Elementary. A Jackson police officer
and a former police chief supervised this drill.
Students are instructed specifically to address a
potential inside or outside intruder. During the drill, there were several parents trying to enter the school but were locked
outside. The police officers recommended that we notify parents that if they ever come to the school and find the doors locked,
they need to return to their cars. Do NOT call the school.
We will not be permitted to answer.

A Note from the School Nurse……
Staying Healthy During Cold & Flu Season
Staying healthy through cold and flu season can be a challenge. Following these simple tips can help minimize the threat:
Wash hands frequently. Colds and the flu are spread from contact with surfaces that have been contaminated with those viruses.
Washing hands for 20 seconds removes viruses; decreasing the chance of contracting a cold or the flu.
Soap and water is the best method to remove germs and viruses; however, alcohol-based sanitizers are acceptable if soap and water are not readily available.
Cover coughs and sneezes.
Coughs and sneezes spread germs and virus through droplet particles that can easily be transferred to others from hand-to-hand contact or by touching infected surfaces.
Using tissues or the crook of your elbow minimizes the transfer of germs to others.
Get proper rest.
Sufficient sleep allows the body to effectively fight off viruses and infections.
Children should sleep in a dark room without a TV or computer.
Suggested sleep amounts:
ages 5 – 8: 10 to 12 hours/night
ages 9 – 12: 10 to 11 hours/night
ages 13 – 18: 8 to 10 hours/night
adults: 7 to 9 hours/night
Consider getting a flu shot.
Annual flu shots provide protection against the most common strains of the flu predicted for the season.
Since the flu virus can mutate, there is no way to be completely protected; however, getting the flu vaccine can minimize flu symptoms if you are exposed.
Flu vaccines can be given through injections or flu mist up the nose.
Feel free to contact me any time with questions or concerns that you may have.
