INVITATION TO THE 30TH FFSI WORLDWIDE CONFERENCE

M ESSAGE FROM EDWARD TAN,

MANAGING DIRECTOR, UNION AIR FREIGHT (S) PTE LTD—The manage-ment and staff of Union Air Freight look forward to welcoming all the delegates to our Worldwide Confer-ence and to celebrate the 30th Anni-versary of FFSI. We do hope that this event will result in achieving a record number of delegates and spouses. I must compliment the author of the

article on Singapore in the recent eNews, Volume 5 Issue 3. It was very well written and covered almost all about our tiny island (also known to many as ―a little red dot‖). What was intentionally left out in the article are our Integrated Resorts – Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World Sentosa. The Singapore skyline has changed dramatically. Ac-companying are pictures of ―Marina Bay Sands‖, ―Resorts World Sen-tosa‖ Singapore’s best resorts and Marriott Hotel (top photo) where our 30th FFSI Worldwide Conference and Anniversary will be held. To know better our resorts and Marriott Hotel, you may visit their web-sites: www.marinabaysands.com, www.rwsentosa.com and www.marriott.com/sindt. We promise you an exciting stay and most certainly a memorable time. See you!

Yours sincerely, Edward Tan

MESSAGES

FRANCIS NG FFSI CHAIRMAN

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I wish the staff and family of all the Members a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous 2011. May we all continue to work together and cooperate with one another for a more and fruitful business in the years ahead. Best personal regards, Francis Ng

Yet again we approach the end of another year and can reflect back on an amazing Conference in Athens back in March and a great Sales & Marketing Meeting in Bangkok in Oc-tober. We surely should thank, again, our family members Gevatrans and Feta Thailand for the warm hospitality we enjoyed on both of these occasions. It is also appropriate at this time of

year to say a big ―thank you‖ to Ada, Joy, Polly and Mike for all their hard work behind the scenes during 2010. Too often we simply expect

that everything will run smoothly and we overlook the dedication and hard work of these individuals. They quietly get on with the tasks at hand often putting in extraordi-narily long hours, and we simply reap the benefits of their efforts. To the four of you I want to reassure you that we truly appreciate all that you do. Thank you also to the Board of Directors for your input during the year and for ensuring that we stay on the right path whenever items come up for a ―vote‖. My very special appreciation too to the members of the EXCO of FFSI – Francis, Lawrence and Dan. Here again most members probably do not realise how much daily effort the EXCO applies to the concerns of FFSI whilst still involved in their own businesses. There are many matters which come to the attention of the EXCO and which require enormous thought and debate in trying to reach deci-sions which are in the best interests of our members and our Association and the flurry of emails over many days are often required before the EXCO is satisfied that all angles have been considered and analysed, and the most appropriate decision taken. Thank you gentlemen! As we approach the Christmas time of celebration and the start of 2011, I wish every member of FFSI and your families and staff in your companies a joyous and peaceful Christmas period and a happy and truly fulfilling year ahead. With my warmest personal regards,

Chris Waterson

DAN ANGELES FFSI COO

The Network Services Office (NSO) staff here in Manila (namely Joy Mortel, Mike Garcia & myself), extend our best wishes for merry holidays, a hopeful and brighter year in 2011 to all our FFSI family,

friends and associates.

This is also a most opportune time to thank all our Network Offices for their cooperation and support in the year 2010 especially in the submission of and compliance with

reports, surveys, circulars, news articles, on-line programs like Per-formance Appraisal, Top Gun, Accounts Receivables, Company Infor-mation updates etc. and other activities that require our members’ full cooperation. We are looking forward towards your continued and enhanced support in the coming year 2011. The effectiveness and efficiency of FFSI NSO depend mainly on your active participation in

all our FFSI activities.

We have a big challenge in store for us in the coming year of 2011. As we have already experienced in the past years, some of our FFSI Members have either been bought over, merged into or acquired by larger multinational players and a number of us are uncertain how these dramatic developments will affect our original (but changing) nature as an Association of ―local independent freight forwarders‖ as well as FFSI’s expansion strategy; and how the cooperation level

among us may falter or improve as a result .

We will see more evolutionary changes in 2011. Having served FFSI in various capacities in the past twenty-five (25) years, I have seen how the FFSI BOD, and especially the Executive Committee, con-

fronted all the hurdles presented before the Association and further strengthened its resolve to continue being a strong ally to help mem-bers in leveling the playing field and expanding their global cover-

age in this very competitive world.

The key to a successful organization may lie in its leaders but the true heroes are those members who help and motivate them to formulate better strategies and are in the frontlines in implementing these

strategies at the battlefield.

How do we answer the challenge in 2011? By implementing the 2-member per locality strategy more aggressively and to complete this program by the end of the year. Preferably, an FFSI locality must have at least one member who is ―local & independent‖ in order to

preserve and support the original vision of our founders.

Why is the implementation of this program showing lack-luster sup-port from many members? Because the point-of-view of many mem-bers has still been ―How will a second member in my small territory affect my business?‖ while the real point-of-view should be ―How will another additional seventy (70) new members across the globe affect

my business?‖.

I therefore implore my dear FFSI friends to help implement this strat-egy by either recommending a second member in your own territory or in another FFSI territory where FFSI has still just one member and also in other areas where we do not have a member. This should be our holiday gift and our new year resolution to the network to

strengthen it and to benefit all the other members, our valuable cus-

tomers and ourselves.

CHRIS WATERSON FFSI CEO
