Dear Brother Knights, The beginning of April this year brings us to the most solemn moments of the liturgical year. In the sacred liturgy, we are privileged to walk with Christ through

Lent prepares us to rejoice in the central mystery of our Faith—the Resurrection of Jesus. Death has no power over us. Only Having Insurance “Through Work” Doesn’t Work

Do you know anyone whose life or career has drasti-cally changed during these years of economic downturn? It’s very likely that someone in your immediate or extended family or group of friends is facing financial uncertainty. Maybe there’s a possibility that you (or your spouse) could lose your job or change employers. Too many people have often relied on group term life insurance as their only safety net. Often, this insurance is an employee benefit provided at low or no cost. The existence of this coverage might convince someone that personally-owned life insurance is not necessary. But only having “through work” insurance can leave you and your family vulnerable. Most group life insurance policies are limited in amount, which may be tied to salary or some other benchmark. These numbers are often capped, and this cap may be dangerously low when compared to your family’s actual needs. In fact, a detailed needs analysis that evaluates your specific situation, will likely show that any employer-provided coverage falls short. In addition, the amount of group insurance offered is almost always reduced, sometimes dramatically, when you retire. You could one day find yourself without coverage, and if your health has changed (which it will as you age), you might also find yourself unable to secure individual protection. At the very least, it will definitely be more expensive. While group life insurance can help, it does not replace the need for individually owned life insurance. I’ll be happy to meet with you and provide a no-cost needs analysis, so you’ll know exactly where you stand.

Dear Brother Knights,

The 2015 Indiana State Knights Of Columbus Convention is Friday, April 24, 2015 ending on Sunday, April 26, 2015 in Indianapolis. Let us pray that the quantity of pop tabs that are brought to our 553 hall before Wednesday, April 22, 2015 will impress the Squires members in Indianapolis with its size.

Please call me if you would like to help “our kids” by becoming Council 553’s Gibault Envoy. Thank you!

There are at least eight (8) open officer positions for 3rd Degree members to help us with various activities until June 30, 2015. Call me!

Remember: One Member, per Council, per Month. I will see you at our April council meetings.

Vivat Jesus! Stephen Elek, Jr., Grand Knight

The members of this Committee are Bart Timm, Al Baumgartner and Luke Reilander.

The Committee is now accepting nominees for all of the officer positions. The officer positions that will be voted on at the June 8th election are the following: Grand Knight, Deputy Grand Knight, Treasurer, Recorder, Warden, Advocate, Chancellor, Inside Guard, Outside Guard, and First Year Trustee.

If you would like to make nominations for any of these positions, please contact any member of the Committee and give the Committee member your nominations. Also, if you have questions about the elections or about the different officer positions (for example, questions about the duties of a particular position), please feel free to contact any member of the Committee. You can also contact Committee member Luke Reilander at [email protected] or 734-646-5259. What do you do with your issue of THE ANCHOR? Does it simply find it’s way into the junk mail and eventually into the trash? As we look for ways to be better stewards of our funds and our natural resources, we encourage our members to read the ANCHOR online. Please—if you do not find value in your printed copy, let Scott know at 288-1985 or email [email protected] so we can take you off the mailing list. You can keep up with all the Santa Maria Council 553 happenings on the website, because the Anchor—everything in it and then some—is on the website.

SUPPORT GIBAULT THROUGH THE GIBAULT BOOK FAIR Saturday, March 21 is the Gibault Book Fair at Barnes & Noble Book Stores. MASS Mob IV at St. Patrick Church

Chancellor's Corner: Did you know? The Knights raised $1million to help establish a fund the earnings on which go to annually support the work of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. (Bishop de Laval Fund)

Did you know? The Vatican acknowledged the Knights in 1895 and just six years later Council 553 was formed in South Bend.

Did you know? The Knights of Santa Maria Council are the force behind the South Bend Mass Mob? They maintain the website, www.SouthBendMassMob, the Facebook page: South Bend Mass Mob, and the twitter account @SOBendMassMob

Each issue I will share with you facts about the good the Knights do. Please become more active by attending meetings, inviting a fellow Knight, and by helping us as we help others. That is one of our prime missions. Thanks.

Know someone who would be a good Knight? Please have them contact me : [email protected].
