Dav Pilkey, author of
the “Captain Underpants”
book series and many oth-
er wonderful children’s
books, sent a letter of en-
couragement and an auto-
graphed “Captain Under-
pants” poster to our chil-
dren. Author Dav Pilkey
was presented with a letter
explaining our school’s
20,000 Book Challenge
contest from school repre-
sentative Alex Ramirez
(Room 207) at a book sign-
ing held at Navy Pier. The
noted childrens author
responded with the letter
and poster pictured on this
page. The letter stated, “To
the Kids at Bridge Elemen-

with your 20,000 Book
Challenge! If you make it,
please send me a photo of
Dr. Brake dressed up as
“You Know Who!”. Your
Pal, Dav Pilkey 2003”.
Thanks Dav!

Happy
Holidays!
The holiday season is once again upon us.
The 2003 year seemed to go so quickly. Now
is a good time to reflect back on all our ac-
complishments and successes. We have so
much to be thankful for this past year. Our
children have been doing so well. Bridge staff
members have been working extremely hard
to bring the highest quality education to our
children. Bridge School parents have been
very active in their children’s lives both in and
out of school.
We should take time to cherish these mo-
ments as we rush through our busy lives. Our
children grow up so quickly. I think I can state
without reservation that we all have a lot to be
proud of this past year. Enjoy your families
and the time you spend with them during this
holiday season. I wish each and every mem-
ber of the Bridge School family a happy and
blessed holiday season.
Happy Holidays!

Happy
Holidays!
Congratulations to our First Place Candy Sale winner Raye Legarda of Room 107. She won a new bike for her efforts!
Jewel Shop & Share Days are December 15th-17th. Coupons are enclosed in this issue.
Thanks to all who sold candy during our PTA Holiday Candy Sale. The PTA earned over $4,800 to support student pro-
grams at Bridge.
Santa Shop will be held December 10th-12th from 10:00-12:30 in the Gym during the school lunch periods. Anyone able to
help our little shoppers on those dates can send a note to the Office marked PTA or call Karen Dubicki at 283-5064.
Thank you for your support during the 2003-2004 school year.
Happy Holidays from the Bridge School PTA!
On November 19,
rooms 108 Mrs. Kelly, 001
Mrs. Cutler, 002 Mrs. Harri-
son, 003 Mrs. McGuire, and
004 Mrs. Gregory visited
The Art Institute of Chica-
go. A wonderful time was
had by all. The docents
who took our groups around
provided information about
the various pieces of art that
each group saw. Here are
some comments from these
students in room 002.
First my group saw
a picture painted by Pablo
Picasso. A man with a gui-
tar looked sad. The picture
was mostly blue, and in the
background I could see a
ghost.
By Kyle Enriquez
Next we saw a
There were three cupids in
the picture. One of the cu-
pids is shooting an arrow at
the man in the picture be-
cause he wants him to fall in
love with Venus, the woman
in the painting.
By Joanna Ogrodnik
The next thing I
saw was Van Gogh’s bed-
room. It was very plain. It
had two gold chairs and two
gold pillows. He had a
chair in front of his door so
nobody could disturb him.
By Colleen Doyle
Then our group
saw St. George and the
Dragon. St George tri-
umphs over evil (the drag-
on). The evil dragon had
parts from a number of dif-
ferent animals. St. George
wore armor with a cross on
his chest. He held a big
lance which he used to slay
the dragon.
