Allen East during the 2014-2015 school year has been

impacted by the new state law of counting hours

students are in school instead of days. In the past a

two hour delay at Allen East was counted by the state

of Ohio as a full day of school. With the conversion to

hours, a new delay protocol will be used. Allen East

will first call a one hour delay and move to a two hour

delay if the road conditions do not improve for the

buses. Using a one hour delay during the winter

months will allow the buses to be on the roads once

the sun has risen. Ultimately, if the roads are too

slippery and/or snow covered for buses to travel,

school will unfortunately have to be canceled.

Just as in the past, all delays and cancellations will be

posted on the local television and radio stations.

Allen East will also continue to use the text alert

system and post the delays/cancellations on the

school web site. We just wanted to make all parents

aware so students are not inadvertently late to

school.

Maybe you know what your agenda book is or maybe you don’t. Yes the agenda book is the

little book thing you use to use the restroom or get out of class. Most people don’t use or read

their agenda book. So today we are going to look into what exactly is in these agenda books

Quotes:

Many of life’s

failures are people who

did not realize how close

they were to success

when they gave up.

–Thomas Edison

History Events:

March 30th, 1867: U.S. Secretary of

State reached an agreement to

purchase Alaska from Russia

for 7.2 million dollars.

Uncertain of its value,

Senators approved the purchase by only

one vote.

Cool Information:

Giraffes often only

sleep for only 20 minutes in

any 24 hours. They may sleep

up to 2 hours 9 (in spurts – not

all at once), but this is rare.

Advise:

Don’t save your long-term homework

for; the weekends

you need some free

time, too. Plus, the

weekends are never

as long as you

expect.

Character Corner: LOYALTY

Synonyms: Dependability, Integrity

Antonyms: Unfaithful, Distrust

Discussion: Who are you loyal to?

Loyalty is an important virtue

to have.

High school students are some of the busiest people you will ever meet. We run from early morning

SADD and FCA meetings to a full day of classroom work, and then to a couple hours of after school

practices for softball or the next play. While I personally enjoy participating in all of these extra-

curricular activities, it’s quite stressful to make sure that I get everywhere on time and have a ride

lined up for my next activity. I believe the easiest and most applicable solution for this is an addition

of a late bus to the Allen East transportation system. Let’s take a closer look at what that means.

We’ve never had a late bus here at Allen

East, and most students would be clueless

as to what it even does. Typically found at

bigger schools and in larger cities, late

buses serve the same purpose as the buses

of Allen East that pick up and drop off

students every morning and afternoon. The

one thing that makes them different is the

fact that this fleet leaves about an hour

after the other buses.

An addition of a late bus would give

students an extra hour to ask questions

about what was taught in class that day,

and more time to work on projects

requiring the Internet or the school’s

system of Mac computers. Students

involved in quiz bowl and weight lifting

would also benefit from a late bus, as they

would have a ride readily available to them

following their practices.

Allen East Principal Keith Baumgartner

states, “I am not opposed by late buses. It

comes down to finances. We’d have to pay

for drivers and the additional fuel that

would be involved. I am not sure of the

level of need here

at Allen East, either.

Parents might have

a problem with

conflicting

schedules if their

kid is dropped off

and the parent is

not home. I know there used to be a system

of late buses in Delaware County’s Buckeye

Valley, but I don’t know if it is still in effect.

Late buses are more common in school

systems with a square mileage double that

of ours.”

In other words, adding a couple of late

buses to Allen East’s transportation system

may be too much of a burden for the

school’s budget. We just don’t know how it

would be received.

I believe that the only way to weigh the

benefits against the consequences would be

to try it out. Would the students utilize this

set of buses? Would there be enough

funding? Only trial and error will tell.

“I am not

opposed by

late buses.” Principal

Baumgartner

Choir is something that everyone can get

involved in, but how does it work? For high

school, there are technically two choirs; you

have your Royal Blues, and your high school

choir. High school choir is for those who

want to sing and perform; it’s more relaxed

yet still a lot of fun. The Royal Blues is about

10% of the

regular high

school choir.

To become

a part of the

Royal Blues,

you must try out but singing music and sight

reading. Try outs are often based off

experience too. These singers also sing at

solo and ensemble and compete with other

students from our school, as well as from

other schools. At solo and ensemble, you

spend all day at a competition for the

greatest number. You are scored from 1-5,

one being the best, 5 being the worst. Allen

East is a production farm for amazing and

talented singers. The Royal Blues have

recently gone to Lima’s square to sing at the

annual Flip the Switch party. At Flip the

Switch the Royal Blues sing to build up

anticipation and excitement to the time

that the Christmas tree is lit up in the

square. Royal Blues will also be recorded on

TV44 in December and after they are done

filming, they will sing at Walmart and

Kewpee like they do every year. Also, if

you’re wondering when the next time you

can see these talented singers sing, don’t

you worry one bit! The high school choir

and Royal Blues will be preforming on

December 15th in the Auditoria. Everyone is

welcome to come and watch these future

stars preform. Make sure you get their

autographs! `

Allen East is known for their amazing and talented musicians. This school offers two

outstanding programs that you can be in that will increase your musical abilities! Choir is a

great way to release your inner Beyoncé! This week we’re here to tell you more about Choir

in general, and a little about their past and upcoming events!

“What’s the difference between the square roots of 169 and 196?” asked the quiz master. The room was

full of excitement and potential as the two teams raced to come up with the right answer. Even the

spectators were getting pulled into the mind games of the December 1st Quiz Bowl match as they cheated

with iPhone calculators. Time ticked on until Ben Thayer buzzed in with his answer of 1. Points were

awarded, delivered hand-in-hand with a big exhale of air from the Allen East side, and the quiz master

opened his mouth to present yet another question.

The Allen East Quiz Bowl team was at it again this past Monday under the direction of the one and only

Mr. Casey. Already halfway through their season, the brainiest kids of Allen East are doing their best to

represent their school and the academic excellence taught there.

The December 1st Varsity matches involved five

rounds with teams from LCC, Bluffton, Elida,

Delphos, and Bath. The aforementioned question

was just one of nearly 150 inquiries of varying

point values., a real test of the brain’s capabilities.

Of the 225 points available, the Allen East Quiz

Bowl team racked up an impressive

conglomeration of 129. The total record of the

night was 4-5. Take a look at the chart below for

more details.

As for the JV team, they also had an important

night. Facing teams from Shawnee, Spencerville,

and Wapakoneta, the team came out with a

record of 1-3. Team member Kendra Webster

said, “Quiz bowl is fun, but we’re not only on it

because it’s fun. I’m on it because I want to use

my knowledge and skills from school.” And use

them they did, scoring a grand total of 49 points.

The stats of their night can be found in this table.

You remember these loud and peppy girls from the Friday night lights

during football season, and they’re back for another round. The Allen East

Varsity Cheerleaders are eager to start their indoors basketball season to

continue their year of cheering.

Let’s meet our winter cheerleaders! After having an amazing season during

the fall, the Varsity girls are bound to

have a great season during the winter!

The AE Varsity

cheerleaders

started having

practices before

their season in

order to get a

good head start.

At practices, the girls jumped, learned

the hello cheer, the run-through,

starting line up, and countless floor

cheers that some of the cheerleaders

made. The senior this year is Carter

Jarman, who is excited to start his first

year of cheering. The juniors Destiny

Goble and Morgan Zellmann are looking

forward to help lead

the underclassman

through the long

basketball season.

Sophomores Kayla

Redman, Taylor

Gutierrez, Kierstin

Prater, Kasey Reneau,

Kassidy Reneau,

Sarah Perez, and

Maddison Hatcher are

learning everything

they need to know

from their

upperclassman on

how to have a great season. The head

coaches of the girls are Kelly Niese and

Ashley Dellenbaugh. After the last

Monday

before our

Thanksgiving

break, the

cheerleaders

met at school

to put up

signs that they made themselves into the

gym to decorate the gym for the season.

Also, the girls made locker signs for the

basketball boys to create some more

spirit to the hallways. The cheerleaders

had their last practice before their first

game on Friday, December 5th. They

made finishing touches on their floor

cheers and run-through to make sure

their first game would go out with a

bang. The first

basketball game is at

New Breman, where

the girls will support their

boys through the game

against the Cardinals. After

that, the cheerleaders and

basketball team will be

traveling to Pandora-Gilboa on December

6th to take on the competition. Our Allen

East Cheerleaders are excited to start

their season and support our basketball

boys.

The Varsity cheerleaders jump at practice.

Junior Destiny

Goble helps the

Yes ladies and gentlemen, it is that time again; basketball season! The time

has come for games indoors, the sound of their shoes scuffing the floor,

hearing the crowd shout as a player shoots a three-pointer and they drop

popcorn on the floor and watching the cheerleaders jump and rally the

crowd. On this page, we are going to talk about the Boy’s Varsity Team and

hear about the next upcoming events.

Starting off the Season

The boys got a new head coach

this year, Brad Clum, with

assistant coach Gerald

Everyone knows about the high school wrestling team, but whoever stopped

to recognize the younger students who will someday be the high school

team? The Junior High Wrestling team is working their hardest to improve

themselves before their season starts.

Let’s Meet our JH Wrestlers!

The JH wrestling team has been

practicing occasionally with the

high school to prepare for

their winter season. The

boys wrestle each other to

simulate a real match they

will encounter at invitations.

The seventh graders are

Logan Hefner, Bryce Belcher,

Chase Caprella, Garrett Neth,

Brady Bassett, Jordan

Kennedy, Hunter

Paxson and Isaiah

Studder. There are

no eighth grade

wrestlers in JH this year. The

coach is Kevin Sealscott. These

boys work hard to get stronger and

faster, also learning moves to take

down their opponent.

The sport has a whole

new difficulty as the

seventh graders move

up to Junior High.

Also, Junior High is

a great way to prepare oneself for

the challenge of

High School

sports. Each

athlete competes against

each other to impress their

coaches and show their

skills. Wrestling is a sport that

tests an athlete’s strength and

agility as they fight against a single

opponent. As an individual sport, it

encourages self discipline and

Wales is not only great because of

its awesome name, but its language

is uniquely wonderful. I know this

because my family is Welsh. My

great-grandmother lived in Wales

and my grandmother has visited

Wales several times. I have never

been there, but I’ve seen pictures

and the land is absolutely beautiful.

If I ever get the chance to travel

I’d like to go to Wales

French My favorite subject by a long shot

is French. It interest me so much

learning a new language and

about another culture. I mean,

who doesn’t love the Eifel Tower or

the beautiful sound of the words as

they just roll off your tongue. I plan

on taking my favorite subject to

college and minor in it. Then, I can

come back and actually

understand what Mme. K. is

actually saying for once!

4-h The best thing about summer is 4-h

and meeting all your friends. Also with

4-h you can join Junior Fairboard and

help plan and run events at the Fair,

like the Toby Keith Concert. You can

also go to 4-h Camp Palmer which is

the greatest places on Earth. When

you are a freshman you can become a

camp counselor and do all kinds of

crazy and fun things. Such as plan food

fights, dress up in costumes or even

dresses. You can also meet lots of new

great friends that can be friends for a

long time.

Red

My favorite color is red, but you could

probably already tell from the color I chose

for this page. I love the color red because it

reminds me of my favorite season: fall. The

color red is a reminder of the changing

colors of the leaves during the fall, and it

also reminds me of a beautiful sunset that

paints the sky in warm hues. I also like red

because it is the color of the Ohio State

Buckeye favorite college football team.

You may have been walking through the halls of Allen East and saw him before, or maybe you

He has a wonderful singing talent. You might recognize him out singing for the royal blues

choir. He’s one of our Allen East High school junior. Let’s go talk to Nate Twinning about being

a junior. And see how his year is going.

Q: How’s the

life of a

junior?

A: The life of

a junior is

great! It’s a

lot better

than the life

of a sophomore (no offence).

Q: What was your easiest part of this year?

A: Thanksgiving break! And the 1st day of

school plus the days where school was

cancelled.

Q: What was the hardest part of this year?

A: I would probably say the number of

homework papers that we get in a day

would be the hardest.

Q: Is it easier than being a freshman or

sophomore

A: As a freshman everything is new to you,

and who doesn’t like new things. But when

you’re a sophomore things get old. But

being a junior you have a lot more

“freedom”.

Q: Is there anything you’re looking forward

to?

A: Probably prom. I don’t like dancing (trust

me), but I like being there and plus post

prom sounds fun.

Q: Do you have a favorite person?

A: Not really. I mean I like everybody for the

most part, so it’s really hard to have a

favorite person.

Q: What about teacher?

A: Mrs. Miller, I can be really sarcastic with

her and she can be really sarcastic with me.

Q: Are you looking forward to becoming a

senior?

A: YESS!!! It’s my last year and then I’m

done with high school.

Q: How do you think the rest of the year will

go?

A: Well hopefully good! But I’ll probably get

jinxed.

Q: Anything else you would like to say?

A: To all the people who actually read this,

thank you.

It’s not every day that you see a kilt at school, especially not on a teenager, but this gent

rocked it for the French fashion show like none other. He’s only a sophomore, yet he’s

already left his stamp on school history. When will we ever see another kilt or another kid

brave enough to wear one? We got a chance to catch up with Ben Leis and bring you the

scoop on this kid’s typical day after school.

From what we can see, you aren’t in any

sports. So what do you do with all your

free time?

I ride a unicycle every day for about 30-

45 minutes. Then I practice the piano

for entirely too long. I’m also an Eagle

Scout in Boy Scouts.

When did you start unicycling

and why?

About 1.5 years ago because

my dad’s entire family rides

unicycles and they had an

extra one.

Are you any good?

Yeah. I can stay on it as long

as I want just like a bicycle.

What’s the method to your

madness?

I get on it and use the pedals to move.

That’s it.

How long have you been playing the

piano?

I’ve been taking lessons for eight years

from ONU students.

Does your future hold any of these skills?

Not piano; I’m quitting as soon as

possible. I’m going to stay in Boy Scouts

helping the younger kids until I

graduate. As for unicycling, I’m going to

do that forever. I’ll have a unicycling

wheelchair when I’m a ninety-year-old

man in the nursing home.

How about Boy Scouts?

I got my Eagle Scout ranking at

fourteen years old with my

service project being a fence for

the dog pound.

Have you gotten any injuries

from these things?

I sprained my wrist while

unicycling last year.

What’s your favorite after-school activity?

I love going to my grandparents’ house

because we play Dominos. I’ve probably

played close to five hundred games of it

by now.

and Dana Koontz.

Q: How do you feel about

being a freshman on the

team?

A: It doesn’t bother me

being the youngest because I

catch on easy.

Q: What is your teams goal this

season?

A: To work hard and win.

Q: What is your personal goal?

A: Get better, play for the team,

and win.

someone you want to be like?

A: LeBron James is my role model.

You may see her at a basketball game either watching or playing point guard

or guard on the girls JV and Varsity basketball teams. Maybe even at a

Cavilers game watching LeBron James. Here’s Chloe Lawrence with her

freshman year.

This week’s Mustanger we have come out with a new least favorites where

we take four of our students and share some of their least favorite things.

Scary Movies

I have never liked

scary movies. From

the “goosebumps”

series as a child to

possession movies

like “insiduous”, i

really don’t like

horror films. I can get scared

pretty easily (much to my own

dismay and others enjoyment),

and i also don’t like how they

put on a lot of gore, blood and

curse words just to up the age

restriction. why can’t we all

watch movies with a happy

ending like the classic, always

sing-songy and

positive Disney

Movies?

- Kasey Reneau

Popular Saying

I really don’t like when people use the

comeback “nobody cares.“ Obviously

the person talking thought it was

important enough to say or else they wouldn’t

have said it at all. Just because you don’t care

about what they are saying doesn’t mean

everybody doesn’t care. The next

time you think about saying

“nobody cares” stop and think

about the other person’s

feelings. Kendra Webster

My least favorite season is winter. I don’t like

winter because I really don’t like the cold at all. It’s

always so windy and I hate the wind. I’m always

sick in the winter and then I have to stay at home

and be by myself and can’t enjoy my life. It snows

and the roads get bad so

then I’m stuck at home

again and bored. Also

because we have school in

the winter.

- Sofia Silone

Artist

She’s actually quite popular in today’s music, but

not in my phone’s collection of tunes. Her name is

Adele and there was a point in time where I

thought she was going to take over the world. Not

literally, of course, but in the same connotative

meaning as with cranberries. Let me explain. There

was a time when craisins and cranberry-grape juice

did not exist. And then somebody decided that

everything tasted better with a little cranberry

flavor thrown in. The same goes with Adele. A radio

station was considered inadequate if it did not play

an Adele song every ten minutes. Radio stations

sounded better with a little Adele thrown in. It got

to the point where I would change stations

whenever “Set Fire to the Rain” came on. Have you

even listened to the lyrics of that song? Adele is

my least favorite artist, partly

because she was overplayed in her

glory days.

Ms. Advice,

I’m not sure what I can do anymore! My

grades are slipping, and I do all my homework

at school! How can I get my grades up before

our report card come out?

-Slip-up Sally.

Dear Slip-up Sally,

Calm down and try and talk to your teachers

for extra credit opportunities. If there are

none, then study more before your tests and

get your homework checked in the mornings

before class to ensure a good grade!

-Ms. Advice

Ms. Advice,

I’m getting really stressed. My life consists

of work, sports, school and trying to make

time for family and friends. I don’t want to

have to pick between my family, friends,

work or sports. How can I do all these

things?

-Freaking Freddie

Dear Freaking Freddie,

My advice to you is just to slow down.

Your family and friends should

understand you sport and work

schedule. Once sports are done you can

focus on family and friends!

-Ms. Advice

Ms. Advice,

This year at school I found out that I can’t

eat lunch here because it hurts my stomach

too much! I want to start packing but I think

it’s an inconvenience when the school

already provides us meals! What do I do?

-Upset Ursula

Dear Upset Ursula,

My advice to you is just to start packing! Not

only does it ensure that you will eat all of

your lunch, but you know what will and

won’t hurt your body when you pack! You

will feel better and will be fuller at the end of

the school day!

-Ms. Advice

Ms. Advice,

My parents keep telling me that I need to

apply to colleges but I don’t want to

attend college right after high school. I’m

not sure how to tell them that I’m not the

college type, what would you do?

-College not Carl

Dear College Carl,

If you don’t think that college is your

thing, that’s fine. But furthering your

education is one of the smartest things

you could do for your future. Also if you

don’t go to college right after high school,

you’re less likely to attend college at all!

-Ms. Advice.

On this week’s addition of the Mustanger we are giving you the opportunity to obtain some awesome advice! I’m

Kylee Dirmeyer, your advice guru for this week, giving you some rocking advice and wishing you the best in

everything that you do! So without further delay, here’s my advice for you!
