We’re not the only ones who believe having a great big barbeque event next to Lake Kampeska is a great idea! Cookin’ on Kampeska on July 15 and 16 is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever!

Now in our fifth year, the word is getting out among the barbeque circuit about our wonderful venue on the shores of Lake Kampeska. There just aren’t too many places where teams have their own camp sites and all the amenities of Stokes-Thomas City Park. In fact, some of our barbeque friends now refer to Cookin’ on Kampeska as the “luxury contest of the north.”

Cookin’ on Kampeska, by its very nature, has also grown into a community event. We offer two packed days of activities for all ages! Please take a few minutes and look over our complete schedule of events at www. cookinonkampeksa.com.

We’re kicking off this year’s two-day event with something new – Corks & Kegs. This event from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. provides an opportunity for the makers of regional craft beer, wine and spirits to showcase their specialties. Paired with some fantastic music, by Bluez’ll Do, Friday evening promises to be an amazing night by Lake Kampeska.

At 8 p.m. Friday, our headline entertainment, Black Water Band, sponsored by First PREMIER Bank/PREMIER Bankcard will take the stage.

The variety in our events makes Cookin’ on Kampeska a destination for families, recreational sports buffs and foodies. This year’s Flying Houndz Frizbee Trick Dog Shows will also be particularly memorable.

Our wide range of sponsors again this year tells us that Watertown is excited to host this fantastic weekend. Thanks to all the businesses that have generously sponsored events and donated items for the welcome packets that barbeque teams and judges will receive.

We also wish to thank our growing list of volunteers! Many of you come back year after year and have joined us in making new friends from around the United States and Canada during Cookin’ on Kampeska!

Our guests certainly feel Watertown’s hospitality (thanks to all of you) and see Lake Kampeska as a beautiful destination. So, we pass that compliment along to each of you, along with our invitation to grab a friend and head to Stokes-Thomas City Park on Friday, July 15 and Saturday, July 16.

We have no doubt that this will be our best Cookin’ on Kampeska weekend yet!

"Biggest Fireworks Show in SD"The Biggest Fireworks Show in South Dakota, held July 3 at the Redlin Art Center in Watertown, attracted between 12,000 and 15,000 spectators. The evening event began with lively music and ended with a spectacular fireworks display.

The following afternoon, several thousand area residents and visitors lined Kemp Avenue for Watertown's annual 4th of July parade.

Life Maid Easy won first place among the floats, with the Hurkes Implement float rated second best. Larry Redlin had the best antique tractor and Roy Padgett’s tractor was awarded second place. Antique cars included Sherwin and Pam Linton receiving the top honors, and Trent Stickle was voted second place among the parade's many antique vehicles. Little Angels Child Care received the Children's Award and the Most Original entry was awarded to Sheltered Reality.

Our thanks to everyone who helped organize these amazing events!
