June 2014
Final Student Day
As a reminder, the final student school day will
be on Tuesday, June 10th. Students will be dis-
missed at 12:10 to begin their summer vaca-
tion! School will resume for the 2014-2015
school year on Monday, August 25th, 2014. We would like to take a
moment and thank you for helping make this a fantastic year at
Muhlenberg Elementary Center. Have a safe and wonderful sum-
mer!
From June 16th through August 8, 2014,
MEC’s summer operating hours will be
from Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m.
to 4:00 p.m. daily. Please take note that dis-
trict buildings will be closed on Fridays.
Thanks in advance for your attention to this
matter!
Summer Hours at MEC
Technology and Goodwill at MEC
The power of technology was on full display
throughout this school year in Mrs. Shillady’s
3rd grade classroom. Her students took part in
written correspondence with Lt. Shaun Shillady
a Navy reservist currently deployed in Afghanistan. Shaun is a
1987 Muhlenberg graduate. To make the experience even more
impactful, students got the chance to interact with Lt. Shillady
via Skype, a video conferencing software over the computer.
Thank you Lt. Shillady for your service, and for taking the time
to interact with our students about your service experiences!
MEC will be looking like the Summer Olympics during two days in June! On Tues-
day, June 3rd, grades 3 and 4 will participate in their Field Day, while grades K-2
take part in Field Day on Wednesday, June 4th. Please be sure that your child is
dressed appropriately for both weather and physical activities for their corresponding
day. Also, please be aware of information that is being sent home by Mr. Angove and
Mrs. Leffler, PE teachers at MEC. This information will explain Field Day in detail,
and provide you with options for your child’s lunch for that day. This information
should be sent back as soon as possible with your child to school. Thank you in advance for your help and co-
operation in making Field Day a fun and healthy day for your child!
Field Day Reminder
Dress Code Reminder
As per MSD Board Policy 221 (Students may be required to wear certain
types of clothing while participating in physical education classes, technology
education, extracurricular activities, or other situations where special attire
may be required to ensure the health or safety of the Student) and page 5 of
the MEC “Handbook for Students and Parents”, students are not permitted to
wear such clothing that may create safety situations or be offensive in nature.
Examples of these types of outer-wear include tank tops, halter-tops, and
shirts containing offensive decals/slogans, along with flip-flops on the stu-
dents’ feet. Because flip-flops do not stay secure on the foot due to the lack of
a strapping back piece, they may cause students to slip and fall in such areas
as stairwells, physical education, and recess. Please refrain from allowing
your child to wear flip-flops to school. Thank you in advance for your help
and cooperation in this matter!
Library Book Return
If you have not already done so, please be sure to check to
see if your child has returned all of his/her library books to
the MEC library. It is important to have all borrowed books
returned to help keep our library an optimal place for your
child to find a variety of books that meet your child’s vari-
ous literary needs. Any books that are found over the sum-
mer months can be returned at your convenience to the MEC Office during
summer office hours. Thank you in advance for your help!
