Corpus Christi, Texas – August 16,2010 -- Maestro John Giordano hasannounced the Corpus ChristiSymphony Orchestra’s (CCSO) 2010-2011 season. This sixty-fifthanniversary year will include sixconcerts featuring some of thegreatest and best-loved orchestralworks of all time, along withsensational young pianists, thepassionate melodies and rhythms ofgreat Latin composers, thejoyous sounds of the holiday season,music from some of the greatestmovies of all time and theextraordinary talent of our very ownCCSO musicians as soloists.Pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii will open theseason on Saturday, October 9, 2010.Co-winner of the 2009Van Cliburn International PianoCompetition Gold Medal, Mr. Tsujiimoved both audience membersand competition jurors to tears with hispassionate performances . With theCCSO, he will performTchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto no. 1 inB-flat minor. The orchestra will alsofeature Mozart’s Overtureto the Marriage of Figaro andSymphony no. 2 in D major byBrahms.The second concert of the season,¡Viva Las Americas!, will be performedon November 13, 2010. Itwill feature an array of Latin-inspiredclassical music by composers fromacross the Americas.Argentinean bandoneónist DanielBinelli, internationally renownedcomposer, arranger, and master ofhis instrument, will be showcased inAstor Piazzolla’s Concerto forBandoneón. The program’sjourney through the Americas willinclude a suite from Estancia byArgentinian composer AlbertoGinastera, Brazilian Heitor Villa-Lobos’Bachianas brasileiras no. 2 (The LittleTrain of the Caipira),Danzón no. 2 by Mexican composerArturo Márquez and the world-premiere of Cuban-born YalilGuerra’s A la Antigua for StringOrchestra.The CCSO’s holiday concert, “Homefor Holidays,” is scheduled for

Saturday, December 11, 2010.The musical event of the season, thisconcert will feature classical selectionsincluding works fromTchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite as wellas pops holiday favorites. Internationalvocal sensation MarkMasri is the guest artist for this specialholiday concert. Versatile in stylesfrom classical to pops and gospel,Mark has wowed audiences as asoloist in popular pianist JimBrickman’s holiday shows, andwill showcase his phenomenal vocaltalent in a wide range of holiday music.On Saturday, February 19, 2011, theCCSO’s fourth concert of the seasonwill feature the significantindividual talent within the orchestraitself, highlighting various CCSOmusicians as soloists.
