Partnerships in Ministry:

The SalvationArmy

Winning With Encouragement has beenextremely blessed to have ongoing part-nerships with various ministries andorganizations through the years. In thisedition of The Winner we want to highlightone in particular: The Salvation Army.Since 2002, WWE has conducted 26teaching and training sessions for this

ministry in 6 different states(AZ, CA, IN, OH, NY andPA). The Salvation Armylovingly and effectivelyserves the neglected and the

unwanted of this world in the name ofChrist. It is a great privilege for WWE tobe able to encourage their officers, staffand lay members through our Bibleteaching resources.

Major Wayne Maynor, TerritorialSecretary for Program, The SalvationArmy, West Nyack NY, has been involved

with several teachingevents with WWE. Herecently shared somecomments regarding theministry impact ofWWE: Fresh insights from the

Word, engaging expressions of authenticministry are quick thoughts which readilycome to my mind, when I describe theimpact of the WWE ministry. Throughthe ministry of the dedicated and anointedWWE team, I have experienced spiritualrenewal and have received renewedencouragement and equipping in myservice to the Lord Jesus Christ. Thetruths presented in respective seminarsgive outstanding Kingdom principles forlife and ministry application. Thesetruths are presented through a creativeand warm environment.

In my 28 years of ministry and service, Ihave been privileged to be associated withoutstanding men and women, who havebeen rich sources of blessing and strength. On the top of this list is David Hodge. Heis an effective communicator, whopassionately demonstrates his calling toencourage the Church through his heartand mind for the glory of God.

In October, David presented Finding Encouragement in aDiscouraging World for the Eastern Territory Officers’Retreat in Lancaster PA. 2008 InitiativesIn the last edition of The Winner, WWE shared 4initiatives that we are seeking to implement beginningin 2008. The two video projects (“Bringing Israel toYou” and “Finding Encouragement in a Discouraging World”) were taped this summer onsite in Israel and are in the process of being edited. We are discovering this is a long process and someadditional footage may be necessary. The two bookprojects (Encouragement: The Art of Giving, The Joyof Receiving and What the Leader in You Needs toHear) have several chapters already written and bothare moving forward. We thank all those whosupported these projects and we will update youagain in the next edition of The Winner.

Recent Holy Land Tour

NC, coordinated by staff member Jonathan Rebsamen. David presented Developing a Winning Team to theleadership staff of RHA Howell Care Center inLaGrange NC.

I was born and raised near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Ilike the area, appreciate my roots and look forward to anyopportunity I have to return to that region of the country.

This fall I did just that in order to attend my—believeit or not —50th high school reunion. My wife Pattiaccompanied me and we gathered with approximately 55other 1958 graduates of Eddystone High School. The lasttime I saw those people was the night we graduated and Imust confess I was a little taken-aback at how much theyhad aged. All through the evening you heard such things as“You’re looking great,” or “I would have known youanywhere.” It was an echo chamber from an assembly ofpeople who were suffering from either poor eyesight, dementia, or they were just plain prevaricators. I loved it!

Patti and I decided to make a weekend out of the trip tothe Philadelphia area, and we spent a beautiful fall Saturdaymorning in the historic district of the city. We went toplaces you read about, places I had the opportunity tofrequent many times by virtue of being raised nearby. Westood beside the grave of Benjamin Franklin, we wanderedthrough the Betsy Ross House, ran our fingers along thecrack of the Liberty Bell, and I sat in George Washington’s

pew at the famous Christ Church. We topped off themorning by eating a Philadelphia cheesesteak at a sidewalkcafe on Market Street. It doesn’t get any better!

But what I remember most about the morning was ourvisit to Independence Hall. I stood mesmerized as ourguide described the events that unfolded in the veryroom where I was standing. It was good for me toexperience that. I came away with a renewedappreciation for the men who labored, debated andprayed there in order that I would be a part of a freesociety today. I walked away considering howfortunate I am to have been born in a country whowanted to be free and wanted that same privilegefor each of its citizens, even one named Walt Wiley.

Reminders like that are good for us.They help usrevisit things we take for granted. Lately I’ve hadthe same experience rereading Galatians. It reminds me of the freedom I have becauseof the sacrificial act of Christ on my behalf.Paul declares in Galatians 5:1: “So Christhas made you free. So make sure that youstay free and don’t get all tied up again in thechains of slavery.” Because of Christ’s love I am free—not free to do as I please, butfree to serve, free to obey, free to share, free to give back to Him what He willinglygave to everyone who would believe, evenone named Walt Wiley.
