playwright. His father died shortly before

interrupts the con!ersationand mistakes 0eregrine for

the courtesan. She

apologi4es upon disco!ering

her mistake, but 0eregrine

lea!es in a huff and promises

to take his re!enge for the

affront.



't the court, )oltore succeeds in making elia

and Bonario look like lo!ers. Mosca persuades

(ady Wouldbe to testify that elia was the

bawd in the gondola with her husband.

)olpone makes his entrance on a stretcher to

demonstrate his impotence.

'll augurs well for the rogues as the fifth act begins. But )olpone cannot lea!e well enough

alone. He sends his ser!ants to announce his

demise and waits for the gulls to come to claim

their inheritance. Mosca is the heir6 he parasite flaunts his knowledge of their

wrongdoing to the birds of prey and they lea!e

in despair. 7isguised as a police officer,

)olpone follows them to taunt them further.





't the court, the three gulls,

enraged by Mosca and )olpone

and the loss of their hopes, decide

to tell the truth. hey accuse

Mosca of being the lying !illain

who created the whole plot. Mosca

is summoned and arri!es with

another plot in mind. He will

e3tricate )olpone from this

predicament, but the fo3 mustremain dead and he, Mosca, must

continue as the heir. )olpone

throws off his disguise and the

entire intrigue is re!ealed.



he court sentences Mosca to the galleys*

)olpone is depri!ed of his goods and sent to

a hospital for incurables. he gulls are

depri!ed of a legal practice, a wife, and a

fortune. elia returns to her father with her

dowry trebled, and Bonario is his father-s

heir immediately.
