History

Volkswagen was originally founded in 1937 by the Nazi trade union, the German

Labor Front.

Hitler required a basic vehicle means The "People's Car³ would be available to

citizens at the price of a small motorcycle.

On May 28th, 1937 the "Gesellschaft zur Vorbereitung des Deutschen Volkswagens

mbH" company is founded, and on September 16th, 1938 it is renamed

"Volkswagen´

Hitler chose to sponsor an all-new, state-owned factory. The engineer chosen for

the task was Ferdinand Porsche.

The building of the new factory started 26 May 1938 in the new town of KdF-Stadt,

now called Wolfsburg, where headquarter of volkswagen is situated.

Why In News?

Volkswagen AG's two-year effort to merge with Porsche SE is on the brink of beingscrapped as legal tangles and taxes confound ambitions to unite Ferdinand Porsche'slegacy

The Company delivered 6.80 (5.98)* million vehicles in the first ten months of the year, representing an increase of 13.8 percent

The company is looking to increase its global staff by 10% which will increase the staff from 4,49,000to 5,00,000

At a time when most car makers in India have registered a decline in sales, the Indianunit of the largest European car maker Volkswagen has registered a sharp surge of 67.30 per cent during the month of October. The sales increased from 4343units to6814units

According to Bloomberg, VW is predicted to experience an increase of 13 per cent toroll out 8.1 million vehicles this year. During this period, General Motors sales areexpected to be 7.55 million units, while Toyota is expected to roll out 7.27 million cars
