Volcano & Earthquake Summit

An eruption of information about volcanoes and earthquakes that

will blow the top off!

A Geology Project

• You will develop a 4-slide minimum Google Presentation based on your research of the assigned volcano. You will be graded on the following:

• Presentation Quality of Information (60 Points)

• Presentation (20 Points)

Research Points (80)

• Answer the following questions in your research– Location– Date– Magnitude– Deaths– Damage– Volcanic Activity History– Pictures

Important Questions to Answer . . .

• What type of volcano is it (shield, strato, cinder)• Did it create any new landforms (crater, caldera,

island, etc.)• How did the volcano form (hot spot, plate

boundary)• What were the signs of eruption?• Describe the most famous eruption.• Describe how the eruption impacted the land,

people, and/or environment

Important that you include . . .

• Maps and diagrams that are labeled and specific to your volcano

Presentation Appearance (10)

• Make sure you have at least 3 photos that are clear, appropriate, and interesting

• Be sure that we can read what you have written (large enough text, colors, etc.)

• No text movement!

Live Presentation (10)

• When you do a presentation, you are dressed neatly and your hair is out of your face.

• You must speak clearly and loud enough that all can hear you. You may use the neck or hand microphone.

• You should have complete sentences to add to your bulleted points in your powerpoint.

Bibliography (10/80)

• You MUST keep a list of all sources (websites, books, encyclopedias) used to research your volcano

• Use the following 2 websites and include at least 1 additional website.– Smithsonian Volcanism Program
