As I write this editorial, the beginning of the eighth year this magazine has been available to the public, I received an email stating the Graham Birdsall’s UFO Magazine has produced its last issue (March 2004) and will no longer be printed. It’s sad that it has come to this, but Graham was the heart and soul of the magazine and it’s unfair to assume his family would be willing to continue his legacy. They gave it a go but it was too painful for them as it was a constant reminder of their lost father and husband. We wish the Birdsall family a prosperous future. Only time will diminish the pain of their loss.

You’ll notice some subtle changes to

EditorialMORE SUBTLE CHANGES AND AN END TO AN ERA

the magazine, starting from the cover to the format of its pages inside. This is an attempt to win over more overseas readers as its all-Australian content has excluded us from a market that we wish to explore and expand upon.

So I hope you like the changes. There will be more to come in the near future.

We have also received a lot of letters to the editor and personal accounts for the Your Stories section of the magazine. These will appear in due time on the pages of future issues of the Australasian UFOlogist magazine.

I will be present at the next Australian

Nat iona l UFO Conference in Campbelltown, Sydney. So this will be an opportunity to meet me in person and have a chat.

I shall keep this editorial short as I am suffering from the flu and my brain, as I type this, feels like it’s about to explode. So enjoy this issue. As always I am open to all suggestions, and complaints, and constructive criticism. So shoot away!

This Tasmanian photo of an unknown object, which appeared in Vol.7 No.6, was taken by a gentleman whose name is Rod Beveridge. He sent this image he obtained with his digital camera to UFO Research NSW. Don’t confuse this with the Whittlesea/Beveridge, Victorian UFO case printed on page 12 of this issue.

Mr. Rozario, a traffic engineer, and a colleague were doing a routine audit of a railway level crossing at about 2:00pm on Thrusday, January 15, 2004 taking photographs with a digital camera facing east and west. Mr. Rozario stated that neither he nor his colleague saw or heard anything while taking the photographs. Mr. Rozario returned to his office, downloaded the images from his camera and noticed an object in one photograph. The photograph was later sent to the Chief Defense Scientist, Defense Science and Technology Organization and the Civil Aviation Authority.

The railway crossing is on the Beveridge Road, just east of the Hume Highway and south of Wallan. The road runs roughly east-west and the photos were taken facing west. The camera used was a Kodak DC240 Zoom Digital Camera and details encoded within the image file (EXIF) reveal the following information:

Analysis:Some excellent photographic analysis has been performed by UFO investigators across the world via the internet. The information presented below comes from Dan Bright and Martin Shough in the UK (http://www.zaziork.com),

and Amy Herbert (http://a-realitycheck.com/whittleseaufo/).

‘Domed Disk’ HypothesisDan Bright

“The azimuth of the sun at 14:52 AEDT [GMT+11hrs], for Whittlesea Australia (Lat: 37.5170° South, Long: 145.1170° East), on January 15 2004 would have been 306.41°. The Altitude would have been 65.70° (http://aa.usmo.navy.mil/). Date and time are ascertained from the EXIF data, embedded within the image file.

“However, the camera clock may have been set one hour fast, thus making the actual local time 13:52. This corresponds to the photographer’s statement that the pictures were taken “about 2pm” (Herald Sun newspaper article)

“If this was the case, then the azimuth would have been 341.27° and the altitude 72.91°

“The railway line that is present in the image runs South to North (Melbourne to Epping) The sun would be to the west-northwest (North would be to the right of the image). The photographer states “I took about 10 or 12 photos, facing east and west” (Herald Sun newspaper article). It has since been confirmed by a local newspaper (information via Diane Harrison of AUFORN), that the photographer was facing West when this image was taken.

“The precise pattern and intensity of reflection and shadow on the object would depend upon its shape, dimensions, distance from the point of observation, attitude, altitude, surface material, atmospheric haze, so on and so forth,

which of course we don’t know.

“The four renders compare different settings for light (sun) position. They show the patterns of reflection and shadow that might be expected to be visible on a domed disk under the conditions specified. Note that this is merely a very rough approximation, and does not take account of the precise environmental conditions under which the image was taken, the precise settings of the camera, nor the material of which the UP consisted.

“A camera’s field of view is highly significant in terms of the appearance of objects in the frame, including their position relative to each other. Therefore, the FOV may greatly affect the way in which light and shadow appears in the frame (for example, some objects may seem to cast shadows at a different angle to other objects in the same scene.

“This is due to the relative position of the objects being ‘warped’ to the angular constraints of the camera’s FOV, in conjunction with focal length and zoom functions). Note that the field of view of the camera used to take the Whittlesea image is currently unknown (information pending from investigation), hence an accurate 3D reconstruction is not possible at this point.

“This albeit basic demonstration appears to suggest that the patterns of reflection and shadow that might be expected for a domed disk at the specified time and location are not consistent with the object in the Whittlesea image. By contrast, if the UAP was a ‘domed disk’, the pattern of ‘reflection and shadow’ evident appears to be a closer match to what would

expected from the sun’s position on a June afternoon [D]

“The position of shadows on the ground in the original image appear to be fairly* consistent with those in demonstration [B]. The shadow and reflection on top of the sign-pole also appears to be a prima-facie match for demo [B]. The sign-pole appears to confirm that patterns of reflection and shadow (other than those exhibited on the UAP) do conform to a sun position as shown in [B]”

*The exact time at which the

photograph was taken is still unknown, with the photographer stating “about 2pm”

The Bird HypothesisMartin Shough

Martin Shough considers that a bird resolution would be more consistent with the photographic data than the insect hypothesis.

“Given an average wing beat period of about 1/80 second one would expect that if the wings are caught during, say, an upbeat (1/160 sec.) then they would be blurred through 2/3 of that upward motion in 1/250 sec. The same for a downbeat. If the wings happen to be caught just at the peak of the cycle then they would appear blurred by about half this much (about 1/3 of the full up-down cycle).

“Given that the near wing is edge-on to the camera and appears as a _fairly_ sharp and bright line, it seems safe to conclude that it is not blurred through 2/3 of its motion, and probably not even

by 1/3 either. In other words a 1/250 second exposure would only ‘stop’ a wing beat which was at least twice as slow, and probably at least three times as slow, as the mean insect rate. This rate is about half the minimum cited rate of a beetle wing. Therefore although the bulk lateral rate deducible from apparent motion blurring might be consistent either with a bird or with an insect, this wing beat measure serves to test between the hypotheses. The result is probably inconsistent with an insect, but

is consistent with a bird.” [Martin Shough, Feb 12 2004]

There appears to be no shadow on the road, which it has been suggested favours an insect resolution, rather than a bird. However, Martin Shough forwards the possibility that this may be explained if a mega-wide-angle frame width of roughly 112 degrees was used. The field of view and focal length

will be ascertained in due course, via direct measurement of the camera used.

The enlargements on the following page may mitigate in favour of the bug/beetle/insect hypothesis. However, one has to be cautious about the interpretation of ‘enhanced’ images, due to the ease by which such adjustments can provide a false impression of the original data.

It is worth noting that blurring of the object in question (especially at both the left or right extremities) may appear manifest not only due to forward motion but also lateral deviation from a linear forward trajectory, involving changes of heading, altitude and attitude.

Whilst the blow-ups on your right may suggest definition of wings and head/abdomen/thorax detail, there is currently insufficient data upon which to base a definitive conclusion regarding the nature of the object in question.

The Bug HypothesisAmy Herbert

“While studying the image in Paint Shop Pro 8.10, I accidentally bumped the contrast too high which revealed an image of what appeared to be a flying insect.

“I then created a generic 3D flying insect model with Bryce 5.

“I altered the model to resemble the object in the photograph then placed the model at the approximate angle and orientation of the object in the photograph. The similarities between the Whittlesea UFO and the Bryce flying insect model became clearly visible.

“Side-by-side comparison of the Whittlesea UFO enlarged 500 times and a flying insect model created with Bryce 5 and special effects using Paint Shop Pro 8.10.

may be in the Whittlesea photograph.”

Images of flying objects not seen by witnesses at the moment a photograph is taken and discovered only when reviewing the resulting images can be anything from UFO’s to birds, bugs, debris, lens flare, conventional aircraft or a whole list of photographic anomalies/possibilities. Until conclusive evidence is forthcoming, images of this nature should be considered ‘unidentified’ and neither promoted as UFO’s nor hastily dismissed as IFO’s.

The Hoax HypothesisDeputy editor of a leading digital

photography magazine (UK)The following explanation has been reproduced unedited. Date of explanation: January 28 2004

“If you look at the EXIF data (in Photoshop 7, go to the File menu, select File Info and press Ctrl + 5) you’ll see it was taken on a Kodak DC240. This is a 1.2MP camera introduced in 1999, and has been out of production

for a long time now. (You can see one doing impossible things in the second Mission Impossible movie.) It has a fairly primitive sensor with an even worse sharpening algorithm, and produces a characteristic pale fringe effect along high-contrast edges. You can see this if you look at some of the other objects in the picture that are silhouetted against the sky, such as the crossing sign. You can see it more clearly if you bump the contrast up by about 50%. If you zoom in on the “UFO” you can see that there’s a lot of pixel noise around it, but the fringe is missing.

“Also, the EXIF data indicates a shutter speed of 1/256th of a second. For an object to have that degree of blur at what appears to be a considerable distance (assuming this is supposed to be a decent sized craft) and at that shutter speed, it would have had to have been moving extremely quickly. Look at the apparent size of the thing in the sky. Are we to believe that someone was so interested in photographing a railway crossing with a fully automatic point-and-shoot camera that they didn’t notice something that big zipping across a perfectly clear sky right in front of them?

“It looks to me as though someone has taken a picture of a saucer from somewhere else, pasted it into the image and then added a motion blur filter in Photoshop. Note that doing this would not affect the recorded EXIF data embedded in the photo. They’ve not done a bad job of it, but the angle of illumination isn’t quite right.

“The picture was taken at 2.52 pm, in the middle of the southern-hemisphere

Summer, and the sun is almost overhead and in front of the photographer, judging by the shadows and the reflections from the rails and the metal parts of the crossing sign. The “saucer” however appears to be lit from the right and slightly above. There may be some who disagree, but I believe this picture is a forgery.”

The Verdict:The sample of evidence as expressed in this article and the conclusions that the various researchers have presented, all agree, with the exception of the deputy editor of a leading digital photography magazine in the UK, that there is insufficient information available to form a conclusion about the origin of the object imaged in the Whittlesea/Beveridge digital photograph.

Dan Bright had compiled a plan of investigation document that includes questions to put to the photographer and information to be obtained from a site survey. Tony Cook of the Victorian UFO Research Society has kindly offered

to conduct the field investigation and witness interview. In the event that an interview with the photographer is not possible, Tony plans to present a questionnaire to the photographer via Whittlesea council. Dan Bright will publish further information on his web page as and when it becomes available.

Location. Tahmoor, Queensland, AustraliaDate: July 28 2002Time: 1730Three girls had decided to visit the roof top as they did the prior evening watching for satellites. It was dusk and the girls had a good vantage point looking towards the east. With them they had a pair of binoculars and a pair of walkie-talkies. The girls noticed that a large orange light appeared approximately 15 degrees above the eastern horizon. The anomaly was noted to have fluctuated in colours of orange, yellow, white and pale blue. At first they thought of an arriving aircraft, but then a second light appeared approximately 50 degrees south of the first anomaly, and about 10 degrees above the horizon.

This much smaller anomaly began to perform some unusually manoeuvring; from a stationary position it accelerated at least 5 degrees closer to the ground surface at an approximate 45-60 degree angle within a matter of a single second. The first anomaly then began to move slowly towards the north. At this stage they partially lost view of it as it moved behind a tree. Then a

third anomaly appeared in a valley-like region of the horizon. According to the witnesses, this third object appeared to have “landed” on the ground surface. The object was then viewed through the binoculars and presented in great detail; the object was described as a gray saucer with interchanging colours of green, red/orange, blue/purple and white rotating around the rim. Thy also noted the trees being slightly illuminated by this extraordinary phenomenon. They were suddenly distracted by someone on their walkie-talkie saying, “Identify yourself.” This was followed by some unusual voices communicating in a foreign language.

Around 1830 the girls were then called down to have dinner. At about 2030 the girls re-established their places on the roof after dinner. To their surprise, the third ground-based object was still present. Unexpectedly a yellow beam of light ascended a few meters above the object and suddenly deviated its course towards the three girls. “It was like an orange, yellowy bright light shining on us from far away.” The light shone on them for a period of about half a minute. At this point, it is not clear how one of the girls ended up on the ground. She became extremely hysterical and ran inside.

The other two girls quickly followed her. That evening all three girls had stomach pains. One of them could not sleep and did not go to school the next day. Another of the girls woke up the next morning with her nose bleeding. She also mentioned that she had seen a strange small human like figure in her bedroom.

Location. Punta Alta, Bahia Blanca, ArgentinaDate: July 29 2002Time: early morningLocal residents have seen a strange figure, which they described as resembling a “shroud”. The apparitions, which always occur in the early morning hours, have become so common that in recent days several neighbors have stayed up late to see them, and it is thus that they were able to confirm the simultaneous presence of up to 2 such beings, as well as red lights flying over the area. All the witnesses whether individuals or in a group, agree that the entities are nebulous and glowing, with a pair of red eyes being clearly identifiable, and glassy faces (as if transparent).

Their movements are smooth and they always appear from behind the sand dunes, as though “coming from the Naval Base.” Most witnesses agree that they show a great interest in the water tanks located above the roofs, and that they do not flee upon detecting the presence of local residents; rather, they stare at them fixedly for some minutes. Deep silence is perceived during the observations and “the air appears to become still” and neither heat nor cold can be felt, only a sensation of warmth, as if the beings emanated heat. Witnesses also state that things appear to be darker when “the shroud” appears, as though ambient lighting were dimmed. Another curious fact is the large number of cats and dogs who report to the place where the sightings occur and sit down to observe it in silence, in a state resembling a trance. A series of semi-circular prints have been found in the dunes, not very deep, with 15-20 cm separations in some cases and 30-50 cm in others. The locals have identified them as the strange being’s footprints. Efforts have been made to photograph the “shroud”, but all images, despite the use of different cameras appear exposed.

2002 HUMANOID REPORTS....PART 3

One witness who approached the site to witness the phenomenon took two photos of the prints in the afternoon and decided to stay with the group of people hoping to see the “shroud”, managing to take some photos of same and record the new prints which appeared in the dunes after the sighting. A completely uncommon print was found at the site, but the residents aren’t sure if it’s related to the phenomenon: it has the shape of a five-fingered claw. One witness tried to make use of his carbine’s telescopic sight to see the figure in greater detail, but “when he tried to focus on it, he could see nothing. It was a though it could only be seen with the unaided eye.”

She had woken up early that morning and was getting ready to mount her bicycle when she saw behind the fence something floating in mid-air. It appeared to be a figure wearing a flowing white transparent tunic, with bright red eyes and undefined facial features. Feeling no fear she decided to approach it. She felt as if the figure waited for her and was observing her. At this point Mariela felt some fear and began reciting the Lord’s Prayer. The figure suddenly moved back and disappeared in plain sight.

white glowing cape like outfit, it seemed to glide silently over a field. It had what appeared to be a visor at face level and two beams of red light emerged from where the eyes would have been.

The witnesses watched the strange figure glide over the fields for about 30 minutes. Curiously numerous local dogs and cats approached and also watched the figure in fascination. The lights and figure disappeared into the distance. In another occasion Pereyra and some of his family members encountered the strange humanoid and felt a strange sensation as if the wind had suddenly stopped, they felt as they were inside a vacuum or “bubble.” Strange tracks have been reportedly found in the area also.

Before finding the cat he had called his wife, Maria de Los Santos Barrios. As his wife stood in front of him a panic stricken look came over her face, turning around he was confronted by a bizarre 1 metre tall humanoid that had jumped to the centre of the patio. The creature was described as thin, covered with dark hair, with large pointed ears that almost covered its face, it had very large eyes and extremely strong hind legs resembling that of a kangaroo. Terrified he ran to his son’s bedroom and carried him outside yelling for his neighbors. A search failed to locate anything.

The witness walked slowly towards it, he got to within 20 ft when it just jumped backward and disappeared. He described the creature as about five to six ft in height, gray in colour. It was totally naked. It had human features, but more leathery, and its face was very wide, its eyes were huge and even though they reflected light, they still looked black, resembling two intensely black marbles. Its legs were very muscular, but turned backwards, like a bird. Other hikers in the area have reported encountering little brown men on some of the more isolated trails.

21THE AUSTRALASIAN UFOLOGISTVOL.8 #1 http://homepage.powerup.com.au/~ufologist

A man named Todd Sees went up the mountain to look for pre-season deer. He told his wife that he would be home by noon. He rode his 4 wheeler up the power line behind his home. He never returned. A search party composed of local police, state police and volunteers searched for Sees. The 4 wheeler was found on the top of the mountain near a power-line. Tracking dogs could find nothing to go on around the 4-wheeler. The search went on for 2 days and over 6 miles of mountain was covered from top to bottom.

Then, in the evening of the 2nd day, his body was found in a hard to reach wooded area. He was wearing his underwear. He was emaciated, not bloated. He was pale and had an expression of horror on his face. When he went up the mountain he was fully dressed, boots, camo vest, hat, socks, pants. 3 people, on one farm, said they saw a large round bright object just above the power-lines at the time of the disappearance. It was silent, it did not move for about 10 to 15 minutes. It suddenly went up and suddenly stopped. A light shone down and something was pulled up into the light. It then went straight up, hesitated again, and then went west over the Susquehanna River and out of sight.

More specifically a farmer saw an object above Montour Ridge at the power lines, on top of the mountain, it was round and very still over the lines. Suddenly it moved what looked like a few hundred feet to the east, it stopped and a beam of blue and white light shone to the ground. What was seen next was very unnerving, he saw what appeared to be a man suspended in the light, he was being pulled up head first, he was moving his arms slowly in the light. What looked like a man was pulled up into the bottom of the craft. A few seconds later it started shuddering, then went west very fast, stopped briefly, and then went straight up and out of sight. Also three fishermen saw the craft. The FBI is supposedly also investigating. (Debated as a hoax, who would? And for what purpose?).

Almost simultaneously he heard a whistle coming from somewhere in front of him that was initially high-pitched and then declined in volume. He noticed an “invisible” something or somebody that seemed to be parting some tree branches just about 30 meters from his location.

Seconds later he heard a second identical whistle, this time coming from behind him. Lesniakiewicz had the distinct impression that someone invisible was stalking him and trying to surround him. He could feel whistles and movement all around him but could not see anything physical. After a few terrifying minutes everything suddenly returned to normal, with the familiar bird and insect sounds now back in focus. He searched around but could not find any logical explanation as to what had occurred. (Brings to mind the attack on a woman by invisible “aliens” in the Lorie Valley, France back in 1950).

THE 1972 MOLONG, NSW UFO ENCOUNTER“My mother was taking me to school in Orange (central west NSW) as well as working there herself. The time was 8am. We had a couple of work-friends in the car as well, but they saw nothing! I was sitting in the back seat behind the driver’s seat looking out to the right and ahead as I always did. I was looking at trees, animals etc. up ahead of the car, when I saw something of interest and I decided I would watch it until we passed by! This happened during the morning about 10 kms outside of Molong while heading to Orange.

I noticed something was shining in the distance in the paddock beside the road, and as we got closer I could make out a flying saucer. It was just the other side of a rise in the hill, and the way the road was, you had to be looking out to the right to see it! If mum saw it she said nothing! I saw, as we got to the bend in the road, the saucer was in plain view: it was shiny like if you take a fluro light outside and turn it on on a bright sunny day. You could not make out the shape too well until you got closer to it. I was about 50 metres from it when I first saw it! and there were three large, tall ‘men’ aliens with it: One either side of it walking around, and one heading towards the fence, and he was looking at the cars going by and I know he saw me looking at him - I don’t know what sex it was, but I assume it was a he. They were all tall: at least 7ft! All were wearing silver reflective suits like overalls with helmets. The suits were not bulky at all, it looked like they were close fitting!

The whole time I could see them, all they did was look around as though they were studying the area. The one walking towards the fence and road looked as if he was going to step over the fence, but by then they’d gone out of sight. To this day I can see them as if it was yesterday, and I know exactly where the area is, and I could still go to the exact spot if road works have not cut the corner away!

One day I will get back there and see if there is anything different: like marks where grass won’t grow, or burn spots on rocks etc. If I had a radiation kit I would test for that. After all this time it should still show something I would think! I know what I saw and I know it is real!

• Description: the ship looked like it reflected sunlight, but it also absorbed it, and it resembled a light left on in the sunlight.

• Location: main highway from Molong to Orange, central west NSW, approx. 10kms from Molong.

• Other witnesses: I am not sure, no one else in the car said anything!

• Apparent size: huge single saucer as large as a 12-ton truck.

• Actual size: the size of an 8-ton truck, just as high and as long.

• Altitude: on ground, landed.• Object origin: stationary for a

period before I saw it, because the occupants were outside it walking around.

• Durat ion of s ight ing : 10 seconds.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONAttached is a drawing for you, but I

am afraid it’s not very good. However it does give you an idea. It would be heaps better if I get to show someone where it was and where they were positioned and walking around! I was thinking about the craft’s legs: I know I didn’t see any, but I am thinking it must have had them to support the size, but they could not be seen because of the way the ship was disguised with the light being absorbed and the glow about it not so much reflected!

I was looking at the fluro light last night, with the light diffuser over it, and that would be as close as I could describe what the ship looked like with its glow. Like the fluro, you can’t make out the edge too well, but you can make out the shape and that it is long and straight. In the case of the ship, I could make out it was a saucer shape but I could barely make out the door-shape. I thought about it really hard last night and, yes, I did see it: I did just make out the shape of the opening, and I also remember now the ‘beings’ were either side of the ship and both were carrying something in one hand. Like in my drawing each was holding it across the body, like you would if you were holding a weapon, but it could have been something to test the atmosphere, or soil, or else some hand-held device that was taking a film of the area and the cars!

I am sure the one that was walking with a purpose towards the road did see that I noticed them, and he was walking towards the car and was walking straight down the slope from the ship as though he was going to stop us, but we were too fast and passed him as he got to the fence! I am sure other drivers and/or passengers would have seen the ship, and adults would have reported it, for sure, even if they did it anonymously. I am sure if a public request was made for anyone to come forward about it, they would, because the ship would have been there for a while.

I estimate it would have landed a few minutes before we got there, because the aliens were already out and looked like they may have just started walking away from the ship on either side. And the one that came directly

from the ship may have just got out of the door when we went past and he may have been going down to the roadway in any case, probably to have a closer look at the primitive cars going past ... it may have been a coincidence that I happened to see him as he looked up and in my direction. My estimate of around 10secs may be wrong; it may have been longer, because I first noticed the glow from a distance up the road - I am not sure how far up the road though: we had to slow down for the corner, which was about a 70-to-80-km or 45%-or-so corner, with the ship in full view all the way around the bend and also on the long, down-hill approach to the corner, as well as for a further 50 to10 metres after the corner. It may have been around 20secs or so...the only way I will know for sure is when I go back and time myself on the approach and departure of the corner until it’s out of sight!

With the alien heading towards the road: if no one saw the ship, they would have seen him as he was so close to the road, especially for traffic coming from the other way (from S to N)!

I just remembered a movie made a few years ago about aliens and they were glowing: all you could see in the movie were the black dots where their eyes were; if you toned down the glow to half that, then you would be close to what these ‘beings’ looked like with their suits on and the glow of the ship!

Now I have a reason to stop at the spot the next time I am going that way, and I will take photos for you! I am not sure when though, because I don’t have a car at the moment!

If I remember more details, I will let you know: I am remembering new things now because I have never had to before. They’ve always been there, and the smaller details I have never had to worry about, however if I relax and close my eyes with no distractions I can remember more detail!

I am sure though there was nothing wrong with the car we were in, unless the car radio played up. I can’t remember that little bit, because I was so intent on taking-in as much as I could, when I first saw it, and tossing up whether or not to say anything, and also thinking by the time they looked we would be past it. I am sure that mum and the other passenger would have seen it! I will ask my father if mum said anything to him before she died!

Since that day, I try to make sure I have a camera with me if I go somewhere and one is always on my dining table just in case!

AVALON AIRSHOW UFO SIGHTING

February 1997By Anonymous

I took the picture at the Friday night air show around about 6:30pm on either the 7th or 14th of February 1997. The Roulettes were on at the time with an aircraft circling far off in the background (this cannot be seen in the photo); no other aircraft were present in the air at that time. I took the picture but didn’t notice anything strange until I received the photo back from the shop. Please take a look at the image I have supplied. This image has been blown up to 2400dpi around the object. I tried searching for the negative before but to no avail (I still probably have it hidden somewhere in the house).

TALES OF GHOSTLY SIGHTINGS

Do you believe in ghosts? No, but I am afraid of them!

by Jo Kent

THE GHOST OF FRED FISHER

1826Campbelltown, NSWI have no idea who asked the question or who replied, but I do know that whether you believe in ghosts or not, they can and do fascinate people from all walks of life.

This is Australia’s most famous ghost story. Hope you enjoy it.

On 26 July 1815, Fred Fisher was sentenced to fourteen years transportation to Australia. By 1822 Fred Fisher had served half his sentence and was granted permission to purchase a property, the property being at Campbelltown.

In 1825 Fred Fisher had an argument

with a local carpenter and received a light prison sentence. Worried about his farm, Fred gave his neighbour, George Worrall, power of attorney during his imprisonment. Serving his sentence, Fisher returned to town a short time later.

On 17 June 1826, Fred Fisher mysteriously disappeared with George Worrall announcing that Fred Fisher had sailed for England. Three weeks later, George sold Fred’s horse and other personal belongings claiming that Fred had sold them to him. Needless to say, the townspeople became suspicious.

Almost four months after the mysterious disappearance of Fred Fisher, a strange occurrence took place in a local hotel. On that memorable night 1926, a wealthy and respectable farmer, John Farley, stumbled into the local hotel in a state of shock. John claimed he had seen the ghost of Fred

Fisher sitting on a rail of a bridge over a creek. The Ghost pointed to a paddock along the creek then faded away.

The body of Fred Fisher was later discovered in the very paddock where his ghost had pointed to.

On 17 September 1826, George Worrall was arrested on suspicion of Fred’s murder. On 5 February 1827, George Worrall was found guilty and sentenced to death by hanging. While on the scaffold, George confessed to the murder.

The tale of the ghostly sighting was not permitted in a court of law.

UFO REPORTSPENNSYLVANIA, USA: Pennsylvania Ufologist Stan Gordon reports a daylight close-range observation of a small cigar-shaped UFO. This occurred on Wednesday, December 31, 2003 at approximately 1:30 pm as the witness was driving west of Ligonier, Pennsylvania (population 1,695), a small town at the intersection of Routes 30 and 711, located about 32 km west of Johnstown. The driver was heading westward on Route 30 when she observed an object flying through the sky about 10 feet (3 m) off the ground. The object was moving up the right side of the

highway, and initially the observer had the suspicion that she was observing a bird. The woman soon realized that the object had no wings. The object began to approach closer, giving the witness the opportunity to get a better look at it. She described the object as cigar-shaped, about 12 inches (30 cm) in length, and it appeared to be metallic. On the side of the object were several dark, possibly black bands. At a distance of about 15 feet (4.5 m), the object changed direction and began to keep pace with the vehicle. The witness indicated that the object hovered just above her, then in front of her at a distance she estimated to be about 12 feet (3.8 m) or less. The object then suddenly took off overhead and was no longer seen. The entire experience lasted about 15 seconds.

BRAZIL: On Tuesday, December 16, 2003, at 11 pm, Daniel D. was outdoors in the city of Fortaleza, in Ceara state, Brazil when “I spotted a UFO sitting stationary in the southwestern sky.” “It was a small oblong white object seen as clouds passed by. It did not move, and it did not look or behave like a kite. It remained long enough for me to go upstairs, get my Kodak 35mm camera, come downstairs and snap a photograph. I would estimate that it was 45degrees above the southwestern horizon. I did not see it approach or depart. It appeared in the clear portion of the night sky. Then the next cloud passed, and it was gone.” Fortaleza is on Brazil’s Atlantic Ocean coast, located about 1,000 km northeast of Brasilia, Brazil.
