children regardless of their family’s ability to pay. Please let me or any other divan member know if you need an information card so you can be ready to refer a family to our life changing hospitals.

as you probably know Shriners own and operate 22 hospitals, opening the first 100 years ago in Shreveport. Our hospitals started out treating children with polio. When the polio vaccine was developed, the hospitals evolved to treat other orthopedic conditions and then other conditions including burns and spinal cord injuries. as medical treatment has evolved over the last 20 years, recovery time has shortened and overnight hospital stays have move towards outpatient care. Our Shrine hospital system, with 22 full scale facilities, is having to involve with the fast paced changes in the medical industry. The Shrine joint board of directors have been considering ways to make our hospitals more efficient and cost-effective while still caring for children with no out-of-pocket cost. at the Imperial session this July, there will likely be recommendations made to significantly change some of the hospitals in our system. Jerusalem will have three representatives there to vote on the proposed changes but everyone is invited to attend and hear the discussion.

Your divan members are working together to make this a great year full of fun events and financially sound fund raisers. We are also working on some needed improvements in the Shrine. We will make some significant investments in our building, inside and out, to ensure continued rental income which is a big part of our budget.

My challenge to you, besides inviting new members and referring potential patients to our hospitals, is to enjoy your Shrine membership. Go to meetings and events when you can, see your old friends and make some new ones, have fun with other Shriners and wear your Shrine colors proudly as you are a member of the world’s greatest fraternity. don’t forget to visit shrinersvillage.com for more information about member benefits.

Thank you for your friendship and support.

Jason McCaigPotentate, Jerusalem Shriners

2018 around Jerusalem Shrine is off to a good start with several good events such as Mardi Gras, SCSa, Shriners day at the Races and the Easter Egg Hunt/Party now in the books and other fun events just around the corner such as the upcoming Outreach Clinic, Oldies But Goodies dance, Golf Tournament, Captains and Presidents Ball and South Central Shrine Convention. So please mark your calendars and make plans to come out to some of these fun and exciting events.

Please do not forget why we became Shriners, to socialize and work to support our philanthropy, Shriners Hospitals for Children. We as members should always be mindful of two obligations, inviting good men into our fraternity and providing information about our hospital system to any family who may benefit from our services. While we may not be able to directly recruit non-Masons, we can tell our friends and neighbors why we enjoyed being Shriners and what we do. always wear your shrine colors proudly to let people know who you are, as you never know when they might ask you about membership.

at our last two Shrine meetings, every member was offered a card with information about our hospital system including conditions treated and contact information. I asked all Shriners to carry that card and be ready to give our information to any family that potentially needs our services. Shriners hospitals needs our support and children to help. Most people do not know about our hospital system, what conditions we treat or that we will treat

Greetings Nobles, Family and Friends, as the year 2018 has begun on a very positive note at a remarkably fast pace, the Nobility of Jerusalem has had the opportunity to see and appreciate the work that had been put in by our Illustrious Sir Jason McCaig and Lady Lisa in planning the events for the year. First, I would like to express my most sincere appreciation to the Nobility of Jerusalem for once again allowing me to serve you, on the board of Jerusalem, as your assistant Rabban. It is indeed an honor and privilege to serve you, the Nobility and our Shrine Center in this capacity and shall serve, at the upmost of my ability, for the confidence shown. What a great start to our new year: The Mardi Gras season has now come and gone and fortunately for the amount of parades ridden by the members of our units we made it through intact with a few minor mishaps. Congratulations to all! This year we had dune buggies, little cars and even a big red wagon supplied by our Brother Shriners from Zamora Shrine Center out of Birmingham, alabama. and as always, our very own members of the Jerusalem Shrine Motor Escort and last but not least, did I mention our clowns. It seems as if we had great participation from all of our units out in the public sector this season, representing and supporting our Shrine Center. a big THaNK YOU goes out to all who had participated for your time and effort. With any office held, there are duties that accompany that particular position. This year I have the honor of being the Membership Chairman for Jerusalem. as not to take this position lightly, to begin, an invitation has been extended to Sam Montgomery our Imperial Membership Representative who has graciously accepted our invitation and will speak at our “Bring a Friend Night” scheduled for april 11, 2018. We plan to have other guest speakers on the agenda as well, to make this a most enjoyable and fun filled event. as your Membership Chairman, I extend to the Nobility of Jerusalem an invitation to join with us for the evening and please bring a friend with you. It should prove to be a most rewarding and interesting evening. In the event that any Noble of Jerusalem would care to assist and become a part of our membership team, please contact myself and/or any member of our divan and we will assist you with your request. It cannot be stressed enough, through-out Masonry and Shrine entities we need workers, at all levels, to work with our brother Masons and Shriners to retain our present membership, as well as, restore the membership of those we had lost for whatever the reason. another successful event of Jerusalem has now come and gone. Our day at the Races, held at the Fair Grounds was a huge success. There were well over a hundred (100) Shriners, family members and friends in attendance who took part in what turned out to be a fun filled day while enjoying a great meal, great friends and even had time to take in the races. What a great time was had by all. Just recently held was the SCSa Mid-Winter meeting hosted by Jerusalem with our very own Illustrious Sir Jason McCaig sitting as President of this organization. as discussed at this meeting, our next big event will be the SCSa Convention which is scheduled to be held Thursday, May 24th through Sunday, May 27th with Jerusalem being the host Shrine Center. This being the case, a

as I begin to write this, my article is already past due, which should be a good indication of how busy we have been. The rest of the divan and myself have been working hard and putting in a lot of time for our Shrine Center. It is truly a labor of love. With me being the fund-raising chairman, this year is no different. We have many exciting things planned this year and are working on adding to our list of great ideas to raise money.

Mardi Gras was a roller coaster ride this year. Filled with ups and downs. Thanks to all who represent us well at these events. This is always a great way to showcase the fun that we have as Shriners and hopefully impress some enough to join our ranks. I want to personally thank all who attended my parade in Larose. all of Versailles greatly appreciates the participation the Shrine had in this parade this year. It made a world of difference and a great time was had by all. I hope this continues to grow every year. Thanks again!

If you haven’t already visited our newly revised website, then please do so. We have been working on it for some time now and it is paying off. We need you to send us pictures from all clubs and units at meetings, functions, parades, parties, can shakes, whatever. Let’s show everyone what we got going on at Jerusalem. We can’t put them on if you don’t send them. Past First Lady Cathy duvio has been a huge help in getting this done. Please let her know what you think when you see her. Thanks Cathy! We definitely can be a contender for the dromedary awards this year at Imperial.

The MJ Live show this year in august promises to be a great revenue producer for us but this won’t come without our continued hard work and dedication. We need to all do our part to insure our success. I will be in Vegas again soon to get this finalized and look forward to working with everyone on this and many other moneymaking events. The sportsman raffle is another one that we will all need to push. We are making some tweaks and will have tickets ready to sell again real soon so be ready to get out there and let’s try to make it even better than the last.

Our annual Pilgrimage is something that our Illustrious Potentate has entrusted for me to head up this year and once again it will be a memorable experience. Contract should be done in March and you should be able to start booking shortly afterwards. We will give you more info as it becomes available.

Thus far this year we have had three successful events that have now come and gone. First, we had a day at the Races held at the Fairgrounds. a great turn out of well over 100 Shriners, family members and friends were in attendance to take in a day of relaxation and fun while enjoying a good meal and still had time to take in the races. What a great time was had by all.

Second, was the SCSa Mid-Winter meeting hosted by Jerusalem with our Illustrious Sir, Jason McCaig sitting as President of this organization. The meeting was held to inform all in attendance, items of importance in regards to the upcoming SCSa Convention which is scheduled for Thursday, May 24th through Sunday, May 27th. due to the amount of events scheduled, a number of volunteers will be needed to be assured that this event is a most successful one. Past Illustrious Sir Larry Breland has been chosen to be the chairperson of this event and it's activities.

Third, we just recently completed our Children's Easter Egg Hunt/Party.

Brother Clowns, What a year 2017 had been. It is truly amazing how fast time flies when you are having fun. Since the last edition of the Fez-Sez a lot has been going on and we, as members, have had one busy first quarter working a number of events such as Mardi Gras Open Houses, riding parades and on our off time, working on our latest addition to the Clown Unit our new vehicle “The Lost Camel”. If ever there was a name that fits this group of hapless merry-makers, it is definitely something as definitive as “The Lost Camel” with emphasis being placed on the word “lost” lol. a big THaNK YOU goes out to the guys who came out on the work days called and got the “Lost Camel” parade ready. Ronnie “Short deck” Romero, Past Illustrious Sir, Richard “Hoppa” authement, Mike “M&M” Maxwell, david “Bumble” Rose, Kenny “Plunger” Bairnsfather, a. J. “Mario” duvio, Past Illustrious Sir and Gerry “Sneakers” Viverito. as usual during the Mardi Gras season, the Clown Unit had been busy placing unit members through-out the public sector working parties, open houses and parades. First off, to start the season, we had been invited to take part in the Tulane Facility Parade in Covington. Those attending this event were arthur “Pops” Sutton, P.P., Richard “Hoppa” authement and david “Bumble” Rose. From reports received the folks of Tulane were extremely happy that our guys were there to assist at this event and word has it, we will be invited back again next year. as most are aware, the three

We were extremely fortunate and proud that not only did our present Illustrious Sir answer the call for assistance, but 4 Past Illustrious Sirs, answered the call as well. We could not have done it without you guys.. THaNK YOU for your assistance. You guys ROCK … SUPER JOB! also, attending in a supportive role were Ladies: Lisa McCaig, Stephanie Buras, Cheryl Romero, Cindy Breland, Jon Chiasson and angie Rose. May we say once again, THaNK YOU ladies for your assistance. It’s situations like this, that just goes to show that we are not just a Unit, but in essence a Shrine family! To all: YOU GUYS ROCK! (Highest compliment that can be given!) THaNK YOU for your time and effort. Next on the agenda was the Cleopatra Parade scheduled for Friday, February 2, 2018. On this night a group of 3 consisting of our driver Ronnie “Short deck” Romero, Past Illustrious Sir, Kenny “Plunger” Bairnsfather and Gerry “Sneakers” Viverito, P.P. headed on down to the parade route and made our presence be known. Not only did we participate in the parade but were invited to attend an “after Parade Party” we had a bathroom on board, lol! Saturday, February 3rd. the fabulous 3, Ronnie “Short deck” Romero, Kenny “Plunger” Bairnsfather and Gerry “Sneakers” Viverito headed on down to da Parish (Chalmette) and took part in the Titians parade. Unfortunately, the weather was not the best, actually the weather was pretty bad, and not to be distracted by such an inconvenience, “Plunger” and “Sneakers” adorned black trash bags and the three of us stood steadfast in our convictions and once again forged ahead and completed the route in true fashion. On Sunday, February 4th the “Lost Camel” headed down to La

the Krewe of Bacchus being on Sunday, but unfortunately, due to circumstances out of their control, as bad weather had been predicted to arrive in our area on Saturday, the Krewe of Endymion choose to change their Open House to Sunday as well. That being the case, to suffice the needs of both organizations, a decision had been made to alter our previous commitment plans and split up our group and work both events. as Endymion was scheduled for 2 hours, those attending the Endymion Open House once completed, would leave that event and head over to the Bacchus event and support our group working there. Needless to say, the crowds at both events were huge (most in many years) and it took a toll, sore fingers for all, lol. But as they always say, “When the going gets tough, the tough gets going”, a statement that

proved to be very definitive on this day as our guys handled the situation most admirably, and for your time and effort, may we say “THaNK YOU”. Those attending were: Illustrious Sir, Jason McCaig, Mike “Mardi” Buras, Past Illustrious Sir and Recorder,

Past Illustrious Sir, a. What an awesome group! The dedication and support of those who came out and gave it their all, is and will always be greatly appreciated.

major events worked this year were the Cleopatra, Endymion and Bacchus Open Houses. as this was the first year of attending the Cleopatra Open House, I think all could attest to the fact that we could not have been treated any better. The folks of Cleopatra went out of their way to make us feel welcome and were most hospitable. a big THaNK YOU goes out to the following clowns for taking the time and making the effort to show up on what had to be one of the coldest days of the year … and that was inside, lol! Those attending the Cleopatra Open House were: Mike “Mardi” Buras, Past Illustrious Sir, and Recorder, arthur “Pops” Sutton, P.P., Ronald “Box Car” Taylor, George “MT Pockets” Wartberg, P.P., Chad “Pazzo” Chiasson, Pres., Richard “Hoppa” authement, Mike “M&M” Maxwell, ambassador, Jay “deezel” dupuy, P.P., Kenny “Plunger” Bairnsfather, david “Lollipop” Marshall, and Gerry “Sneakers” Viverito, P.P. also, a big THaNK YOU goes out to Stephanie Buras and Jon Chiasson for hanging around and keeping our guys straight, for as we all know how easy it is for some of us to get distracted (not to mention any names you understand) and wander off in search of the hot dogs, cold drinks and cake that were on hand. and just for the record, to our good brother, the icing from the cake on your face was a dead give-away. I think that we all can agree with “Mardi’s” analysis of the event and that being “a good time was had by all”. Once again THaNK YOU guys, much appreciated. Up next were the Endymion and Bacchus Open Houses. This year we were faced with a huge dilemma. Normally these events are on back to back days with the Krewe of Endymion being on Saturday and

Thank you Houma Shrine Club. We appreciate your donation!

On behalf of the officers of the Jerusalem Shrine Motorcycle Escort, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to all members who answered the “Call” and came out in support of the unit and our Shrine Center this quarter. It truly had been a busy few months, as we have had a number of escorts and parades that we had taken part in so far this year. What a great time we had this Mardi Gras season. If my memory serves me correctly, I believe that it was a total of 18 parades ridden in this season, plus, just recently, we performed an escort for the Imperial Officers who had come to town to take part in the SCSa business meeting held at our Shrine Center. In all probability, by the time this edition of the Fez-Sez goes to print, we will have taken part in two St. Patrick’s day parades. Both slated to be held in the greater New Orleans area. Those who have ridden in these parades in the past can tell you what a great time these events are. If you had not taken part in either of these parades before, you are truly missing out on a great time. By past experience, you can bet that the unit performed most

admirably and made our presence known. Coming Event: Strawberry Festival in Ponchatoula. The Strawberry Festival is scheduled to take place from Friday, april 13th through Sunday, april 15th. This year we have been assigned a booth at the Strawberry Festival and will begin setting up on Thursday, april 12th. To be assured that we have enough members to cover this three day event, if it is possible that you may be able to assist, we ask that you please contact Captain allen delaune or myself so that you may be included on the list of participants. Whatever assistance, that you may be able to give such as an hour or two or best yet, all day, your time and effort would greatly be appreciated. The success of our unit could not and would not be possible without your assistance and support. Thanking you in advance for your support.

in his white Roadrunner jumpsuit and fez, saluting the american Flag during the National anthem at the Shrine Circus in the 80s was not only the day I wanted to be a Shriner like my father. But most importantly, I was proud to be my father’s son. I’m sure I am not the only Shriner’s son that feels this way or can think back and reflect on times our father inspired us to do what we do. I can only hope that we inspire our sons to follow in our footsteps. So please come out and bring your family and enjoy some good fellowship. You won’t be disappointed.

as before, I ask you to ask yourself again, what can I do to make our Temple successful? Please send all ideas and suggestions to me and I will make sure they are presented to the divan for consideration.

Fraternally Yours,Sterling “Cuz” Chauvin IIIHigh Priest and Prophet

Greetings Nobles,Well it’s a new year and a new position. I cannot thank everyone enough for

the continued support. The past year has been an awesome experience and I’m looking forward to what’s ahead. So, I’m the new “High Priest and Prophet”. You would think from the title I would be preforming ceremonies and blessing our Nobility. Well rest assured, that’s not going to happen. Family and fun is the new job description and we have a lot planned this year.

Just recently we held our Children's Easter Egg Hunt/ Party for the children and patients of Jerusalem Shrine Center. This, once again, turned out to be a most successful and fun filled event. Coming in the future will be the Family Picnic slated for October 21st, the Halloween Party scheduled for October 27th and the Christmas Party on december 8th. These events are designed to make sure our patients, children and grandchildren get their fill of fun this year and bring unity and love to all our families. We all work very hard to make sure that every patient, child and family that comes out feels welcome and part of something bigger. I encourage all to make every effort to come out and participate.

To all the fathers and grandfathers, I can tell you from personal childhood experiences and being a third generation Shriner, seeing my father dressed

Rose to take part in the Versailles Parade. Yep! You guessed it, the same group of “Short deck”, “Plunger” and “Sneakers” was aboard our mighty steed with Mark “Scooter Clown” Richards meeting up on his scooter and took part as well. as most know by now, our own Brother Shriner Jay “G.O.a.T.” Pitre, Chief Rabban was the Captain of the Krewe of Versailles. The weather was just perfect and the folks in La Rose could not have been any friendlier. If you had not participated in this parade, I suggest you mark it on your calendar. What a great time, and the folks could not have been friendlier - hospitality at its best! as that concludes the report of our Mardi Gras participation, on another note, I would just like to take a moment to say congratulations to

the new officers of the Clown Unit, as well, as our Illustrious Sir Jason “Isee” McCaig and the members of his divan. May we wish you the very best and a most successful year.In Memory: as most of us are aware, we have once again lost a truly good friend and Brother Clown with the recent passing of Brother Richard “Hoppa” authe-ment. “Hoppa” until sidelined due to illness, was one of the hardest work-ing, devoted, dedicated, lov-ing and caring members to ever put on make-up and a costume. This brother never knew the meaning of the word “No” and despite his ill-ness, thought all things were possible. Being a man of impeccable moral statue and honor, he treated all like

he, himself, would have liked to have been treated. “Hoppa” will always be remembered for his compassion for others, and having a heart of gold. This good brother would go out of his way to make certain that the wishes of others were met regardless of the adversities experienced while going through the process. as we recall the many great moments and fun times shared with the “H-Man” there are many of us who can attest, to the fact, that he is now and will forever be missed. To our good brother clown Richard “Hoppa” authement may you Rest In Peace, Babee … It was an honor for us to have known you and share time with you …. On a personal note: “Rock On Brother-Man” we have had some great times together “Putting Smiles On Faces, One Child at a Time. We say “Thank You” my friend for the memories shared. a Moment to Reflect: Last but not least, let’s not forget, in prayer, the many men and

women of our armed Forces, Police Organizations, Fire Fighters and First Responders who so graciously serve and/or served, some giving the ultimate price so that we, as citizens, may enjoy the rights expressed under the Constitution of this great nation under God. as men and Shriners we are “proud to salute our flag and stand for our National anthem. For our Brothers in Blue, “you do not stand alone”. during these most trying of times, our prayers, thought and support shall be with you, as you shall remain resilient. as it had been said “For this too shall pass”. May God bless always.

Dear Nobles,

Subject: Nobles Simon, Sr., Jack and Eddie Landry. These brothers and nobles were the founding and operating persons of the famous Mother’s Restaurant on corner of Poydras and Tchoupitoulas streets in N.O.L.A. These Brothers and Shriners were all USMC Vets. The father Simon, Sr., USMC WWI, Jack and Eddie USMC WWII 42-45. Oriental GuideGreetings Nobles,

First of all, I would like to say thanks to all Nobles for the confidence and faith which you have shown by electing me as your Oriental Guide for the year of 2018. It is really an honor, and I will work to serve you with the utmost honor and dedication to the office. I will not take this honor for granted. I would also like to congratulate our newly elected Potentate Jason McCaig along with Jay Pitre - Chief Rabban, Paul Ruiz - Assistant Rabban, Sterling Chauvin - High Priest and Profit, Mike Buras - Recorder and Guy Cheramie - Treasurer. I am looking forward to working with each of them. Their experience and dedication to the Shrine, will continue to move us down the path of success. To all appointed and elected officers of all clubs and units, congratulations! Being elected or appointed to a position is an honor. This shows that your fellow Nobles have the confidence for you to guide them in the right direction. I am looking forward to visiting and working with all of you.

Over the next few months, I will be learning the working of the Temple. at this time, I am in charge of the Temple’s Gift Shop. If you need anything in the gift shop, or see anything you would like to get that is not in the gift shop, let me know. I will see to get it. I am sure I will have more duties added, as the months pass.

Mardi Gras Season has already passed, I hope all of you had a fun filled and safe season. There are lots of events planned for this year. Two of the events planned, have now come and gone, a day at the Races and just recently held was the Children's Easter Egg Hunt/Party. We now look forward to the Family Picnic and the Halloween Party, just to name a few. Lady darlene and I are looking forward to visiting with all of you at these events.

Before closing, I would like to thank, Noble Chris LeBlanc for nominating me, and Noble John Garner, for seconding it. This is something that I will never forget. Thanks again!

Congratulations to the divan on their newly elected positions. We look forward to working with each of you as you start a new chapter in your lives.

First, I would like to thank the ladies and Nobles that stepped up to assist with the reception following the installation. Your work never goes unnoticed. Following the elections in January, we all geared up for the Mardi Gras season and enjoyed the parades. Thank you again to all the ladies that supported their nobles and rode in the parades. Next followed the day at the races. a fun time was had by all as we had over 100 in attendance.

Next, thank you to the Clown Unit and the ladies that helped with the Easter Party from assisting with the games, serving food and providing desserts. This has always been a fun event for the children and to see the smiles on their faces as

First Lady Messagethey all scatter to see who can find the most eggs.

EaCH ONE, BRING ONE

Greetings Nobles,I hope that this issue of the Fez-Sez finds you happy, healthy and proud to

be a Shriner!Thank you again for putting your trust in me as your Recorder for another

year. I take my office very serious and hope that you all know that I am here for every Noble if you ever need something. I will do my best to stay on top of all of our business to make sure that we are following all laws, edicts and bylaws so that we stay clear of any unfortunate mishaps. If you have an idea, thought, complaint or if you just need to talk to me about something please do not hesitate to call or stop in, I will get you your answer!

Thanks to Illustrious Sir aJ duvio for his dedication and leadership last year, it takes a lot to dedicate so much of your life for so many years and follow through with it to the end. Congrats to the newly elected Potentate Jason McCaig and his divan, we have a great group of men that all have the same vision and that is to promote our Shrine, take care of our kids and all go home at the end of the day with peace and harmony prevailing. I’m looking forward to working with each and every one of them this year; it will be an exciting year with Illustrious Sir Jason at the helm.

Our new Insurance policies have been issued to us. Our coverage is for “All Nobles in good standing of Jerusalem Shrine” for all events that are prior approved by the Potentate. Please make sure that your dues are current before you participate in any Shrine function either at the Temple or at any Club or Unit activity.

We get many phone calls to the office asking about new dues cards and/or renewal stickers. We do not send out dues cards any longer since Imperial has taken that task over for all Temples. Right now it is taking 6-8 weeks from the time we receive your dues to the time that you are receiving your card or sticker. Please be patient, Imperial is still working out the kinks of their new system.

Your divan has a lot of new maintenance projects planned for our Temple this year. It will be exciting to watch our beautiful Temple get re-painted, new front windows installed, concrete repairs to the parking lot and front apron, new exterior security lights to the sides of the building, new interior floors and other items taken care of this year. We have to keep our investment in tip top shape as well as to make it very attractive for our renters.

If you are a new Shriner and you still have not joined one of our many Units or Clubs then you are missing out. If you do not know what they are or need more information about them do not hesitate to call me. Get active in your fraternity and you will have a great time!

Have you ever stopped and asked yourself….What are our responsibilities as a Shriner? according to Shriners International, each Shriner is expected to help the fraternity grow by recruiting new members and being as active as possible, and to support the philanthropy by helping identify children who may benefit from expert medical care provided by Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Thank you for being a member of the World’s Greatest Fraternity and what you do for our kids and Shriners Hospitals for Children!
