One Planet. Consume with Care” on Saturday, 20.06.2015 at 06.00 p.m. at Haji Ali, Mumbai. About the Theme : The well-being of humanity, the environment, and the functioning of the economy, ultimately depend upon the responsible management of the planet's natural resources. Evidence is building that people are consuming far more natural resources than what the planet can sustainably provide. Many of the Earth's ecosystems are nearing critical tipping points of depletion or irreversible change, pushed by high population growth and economic development. By 2050, if current consumption and production patterns remain the same and with a rising population expected to reach 9.6 billion, we will need three planets to sustain our ways of living and consumption. The WED theme this year is therefore "Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care." Living within planetary boundaries is the most promising strategy for ensuring a healthy future. Human prosperity need not cost the earth. Living sustainably is about doing more and better with less. It is about knowing that rising rates of natural resource use and the environmental impacts that occur are not a necessary by-product of economic growth About the Speaker : Eminent Speaker will be invited to deliver the lecture. Lecture on “Role of Engineers in Quality in the System of Higher Education” by Prof (Col) Ramesh Kasetwar, Founder Trustee and CEO "Quality Plus" on Saturday, 11.07.2015 at 06.00 p.m. at Haji Ali, Mumbai. About the Lecture : As on date the status of the “quality” of higher education is questionable. Firstly, Number of surveys and reports of the committees indicate that only less than 35 % graduating students even from the professional courses are found to be employable / job ready. More than 65 & are NOT found to be employable due to lack of various skills. Secondly not even one university in India is among top 200 in the world. There is definitely something wrong with the system of higher education. Can engineers, either in the capacity of academicians or industrialist play some important part in the process? Let us discuss. About the Speaker : Prof Ramesh B Kasetwar (a retired colonel from Indian Army) had completed his doctorate (PhD) in the subject related to Quality in the system of higher education; after PG in Management and graduation in Engineering. He is the fellow of The Institution of Engineers (India). He was also a Vice Chancellor of a University. 2
