Children’s Church
Children’s Church will resume next Sunday, Au-gust 6th. We are in need of additional volunteers to assist with this activity. You do not need to necessarily lead the lesson. It is helpful to have at least two adults for each session. Call the office or see Jimbo.
A WORD FROM THE INTERIM PASTOR…
SUNDAY WORSHIP – We will observe “The Mountain Vision
and the Valley Need” from Matthew 17:1-30 Sunday morning. We
will be reminded of the lesson learned by the disciples in this pas-
sage that we are to take the enthusiasm and strength gained in our
mountain top spiritual experiences and translate that energy into a
desire to help those in need in the valley.
WELCOME NEW MEMBERS – It was a joy to welcome by trans-
fer of letter Barbara Whitt, her daughter Susan Huffaker and Su-
san’s son, Joel Huffaker, into the Smithwood family last Sunday.
FAITHFULNESS DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS – Thank
you for your consistent support in attendance, involvement and giv-
ing during these hot and humid days. Soon school will begin and
the fall schedule is on the horizon. Children’s Worship will begin
again on August 6th.
OUOTE – “Sorrow looks back, worry looks around, faith looks
up.” Ralph Waldo Emerson.
Dr. Larry W. Fields, Interim Pastor
Please join with us as we start praying now for shipping charges to come in for our Smithwood OCC boxes. You may take a card from our board at any time and pray for the children on that card . Please make your tax deductible check out to : Smithwood Baptist Church and in the memo line please state for: OCC shipping We will be collecting shipping money from now until November 5th, so that the pre-paid barcoded “follow your box” labels may be made before our church packing party on Nov. 10th.
Enjoy Mighty Wurlitzer organ performances by Dr. Bill Snyder and Freddie Brabson and special guest, K-Town Sound. K-Town Sound is a chorus of women affiliated with Sweet Adelines who sing in the bar-bershop style. The church van leaves Smithwood at 11:00 a.m. Sign up on the Keenager bulletin board.
This year’s VBS mission project was called Operation Kid-to-Kid. This mission enables children in Peru to have clean water. Five dollars pro-vides clean water for one child for an entire year. The children attend-ing VBS raised enough money to provide water for 31 children in Peru. We would like to thank those who rose to the challenge and donated to this fund at Sunday’s service. The money collected will pro-vide clean water for an addition-al 40 children in Peru, so the adults more than doubled the children's money, which was the goal! In all, 71 children in Peru will have clean water for a year!
VBS was a hit! The children had a blast learning about the Bible and experiencing Peruvian culture. A big thank you to every individual that had a hand in VBS! Whether you helped decorate or clean up, served or provided refreshments, helped with games or activities, it would not have been possible without each of you!
Dr. Fields will be leading the Wednesday Night Bible Study at 6:00 p.m. in the Cobble Room. This week’s lesson will be on Hezekiah, a faithful king. The lesson will be based on II Kings 18:1-7; 20:1-7.
