Rotary A great service project
It was a cold day in October but warm hearts were every-
where. The joy of seeing these kids enjoying things
many had never experienced. Although many children did
not have adequate coats, the gloves and hats included in their package came in quite handy. Walking Taco’s were served and all of the kids enjoyed their S’Mores, and pumpkins. Thanks to all who participated. Picture by Bill Tubbs
Please Welcome District Governor Chris Knapp and his wife Vernette
Chris was born in Ithaca, New York, moved to Iowa City and graduated from Iowa City West High. After graduating from Iowa State with a degree in history and teaching certi-fication in social studies he was for a short period of time adviser to fraternities at the University of Iowa. In 2002, Chris earned his EMBA from the Tippie School of Manage-ment, University of Iowa. In 1977, Chris began his banking career at First Nation-
al Bank Iowa City, which subsequently became U.S. Bank N.A. During his banking career he advanced through Bank Club Director to Trust Officer. Vernette began her banking career in 1970 when she joined First National Bank Iowa City. Her career led her to Chicago, Louisville, Kentucky and back to Iowa City in 1980. Vernette has taught banking supervision and management courses through Kirkwood Community College. Vernette, a Rotarian since 2013, received the Rotarian Spouse/Partner Service Award from the Board of Directors of Rotary International for her service and commitment to Rotary Youth Exchange in District 6000.

LAST WEEK – October 14, 2016 – Don Doxie: Iowa Baseball Greats
Don Doxie, sports reporter for the Quad City Times, loves baseball and the history that goes along with it. He has reported on nearly every sport that is played. Gene Baker, a Davenport High School graduate, is the reason Don wrote his book about Iowans who excelled in baseball. Gene was a scout for the Pittsburg Pirates, when Don tried out for the team. Six out of sixteen Iowans in the book are members of the Hall of Fame. Sixty two attended on Friday. Present were Davenport Rotarians, Sherry Ristau and Aaron Christo-pher. Other guests were: Jeff Martens, Jon Cole and Griffin Holden. Jeremy Kaiser gave a recap of the Har-vest Party, held at the Pride of the Wapsi. 30 North Scott Rotarians volunteered, 228 kids from 9 agencies attended. The afternoon turned out a little chilly, but everyone had fun picking a pumpkin and eating s’mores. Patrick told about the Q.C. area meeting, where 2000 meals were packed with “Kids against Hunger.” The attendance overall was very poor; however North Scott was represented by 8 people. Pat also explained the importance to “reserve” your seat for the auction. It is already near a sell out! John Maxwell sold this week’s goodies for a total of $510. We were glad to see Eric Langan back with us, just in time for the auction. Bill Tubbs was the sergeant with a Cubs baseball trivia. He collected $102 in fines.
The 4 Way Test Of the things we THINK SAY or DO
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
