from this “one-ask, one give” event.

Bidding 2.0Last year marked the debut

of auction technology, and it added an entirely new level of immediacy to the auction experience. Touchscreen bidding—which was so well received last year—made its return, and was available both Friday and Saturday in Heron Hall and Saturday evening for the Live Auction. Much like Ebay, bidders had the option to pre-set bids and raise bids when outbid, with a ‘Buy it Now’ option available for select items. This year’s All Charities weekend kicked auction technology into high gear with the use of a spe-cial auction site accessible through your smart phone, table or home computer. The advent of online bidding opened up the auction experi-ence to a new audience, since now bidders could partici-pate in All Charities Weekend from on or off the Reef. “We had so many volunteers who made this weekend a suc-cess,” said Mona Brewer, All Charities Chairperson, “but Reef Radio’s ‘Geek Squad’ deserves a special mention for their IT support and mak-ing the smart device bidding such a huge success.”

Circle of GivingThe second innovation that

made an impact on charitable giving was the new Circle of Giving Box. The circle rep-resents the never-ending efforts of the community, volunteers and sponsors, and also served to illustrate all the beneficiaries of the All Charities Weekend fundrais-er. Throughout the weekend, members made donations by check, cash and simply by using their member num-ber. “We wanted to provide an option for those members and guests who weren’t bid-ding on any items, but still wanted to contribute,” said Mona Brewer. “We were delighted with the tremen-dous expression of support, with so many envelopes with varying contributions.”

One More Chance toContribute And Have Fun

Perhaps just as important as the funds raised is the chance to come together as a community. All Charities Weekend was fun, with shared good times and many

wonderful items donated and won. But the fun isn’t over yet! You can become a part of the All Charities Circle of Giving when you participate in The Greatest Scavenger Hunt on Earth, on Sunday, April 1. Hosted by Steve and Kathie Markel, with the support of the Silent Auction Committee and Ocean Reef Club, this “wild and crazy, awesomely spectacular” scavenger hunt via golf cart covers all corners of the Reef, and ends with a cookout at the Markels. The hunt is limited to 50 teams of four (200 people total); $500 per participant. If you don’t have a team of four, sign up and you’ll be still be able to be part of this day. For more information, contact, con-tact Lesa Crayne, Auction Administrator at 305-367-6303 or [email protected].

The total funds raised, plus more about the All Charities Weekend will be detailed in an upcoming issue of the Ocean Reef Press.
