A new priest was walking with an older, more seasoned priest in the parish garden one day.

Feeling a bit insecure about what God had for him to do, he was asking the older priest for some advice.

The older priest walked up to a rosebush and handed the young priest a rosebud and told him to open it without tearing off any of the petals.

The young priest looked in disbelief at the older priest and was trying to figure out what a rosebud could possibly have to do with his wanting to know the will of God for his life and ministry.

But, because of his great respect for the older priest, he proceeded to try to unfold the rose, while keeping every petal intact. It wasn’t long before he realized how impossible this was to do.

Noticing the younger priest’s inability to unfold the rosebud, without tearing it, the older priest smiled and began to recite the following poem:

It is only a tiny rosebud, AflowerofGod’sdesign;

ButIcannotunfoldthepetalsWiththeseclumsyhandsofmine.

A FIFTY YEAR HISTORY: VATICAN IIDecree on the Church’s Missionary Activity (Ad Gentes)

My dear Sisters and Brothers,In the Gospel of Saint Matthew, the

author recalls the last event of the Res-urrected Lord’s words prior to His As-cension to Heaven. He concludes his Gospel, “The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them. When they saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted. Then Jesus approached and said to them, ‘All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have com-manded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age’” (28:16-20).

My home parish of Holy Name of Jesus Church in Youngstown, Ohio, has stained glass windows throughout the church portraying the biblical ref-erences, especially in the Gospels, to the name of Jesus. This scenario is the second to the last in the series. Christ is pointing His finger, showing the way, and the apostles are anxiously on their feet, Saint Peter leading them with the Gospels, ready to spread the Good News to the world.

Our Church has been faithfully pro-claiming the Good News to the ends of the earth from one generation to the next. I could write pages of saints and peoples names who have evangelized millions of people in the Catholic Faith. But you may desire to look them up in such books like Butler’s Lives of the Saints. In America, some notables that stand out in my mind are: Frances Xavi-er Cabrini, John de Bréuf, Katherine Drexel, Rose Philippine Duchesne, Ma-rie Rose Durocher, Isaac Jogues, John Neumann, Miguel Agustin Pro, Junípe-ro Serra, and Elizabeth Ann Seton, just to name a few. By their ministries, older and younger people and all those in be-tween came to understand who Jesus was and who He is in their lives. Yet in looking at these great Saints and oth-ers of Catholic and Christian fame, all Christians of all times possess the obli-

gation to take on the Lord’s command, “Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature. Whoever be-lieves and is baptized will be saved; who-ever does not believe will be condemned (Mark 16:15-16). Proclaiming the Good News is Evangelization, the missionary activity within the Church.

The Fathers of the Second Vatican Council highlighted the importance of proclamation of the Good News to the world in the Decree on the Church’s Missionary Activity, also known by the Latin title, Ad Gentes. This document that contains forty-two paragraphs was promulgated on 7 December 1965 in Rome. It is easy to read and really under-scores the importance of all Christians to participate in the missionary activity of the Church. After explaining that missionary activity is primarily directed to those people and nations where the Gospel has not been proclaimed, the Fathers declared that there is an ongo-ing need to emphasize growth in Gospel values. They noted, “In this missionary activity of the Church various stages are sometimes found side by side: first, that of the beginning or planting, then that of newness or youth. When these stages have passed, the Church’s missionary activity does not cease. Rather, there lies upon the particular Churches which are already set up the duty of continu-ing this activity and of preaching the gospel to those still outside. Moreover, the groups among which the Church dwells often undergo radical changes for one reason or other, and an entirely new set of circumstances can arise. Then the Church must deliberate whether these conditions call for a renewal of her mis-sionary activity” (AG, paragraph six).

When many of us hear the word “missions”, we recall the days when we were in grade school and prayed and collected monies for the missions. We prayed for the conversion of peoples to Christianity in far off lands like in Asia, Africa, and South America. Pres-ently we are reminded of the mission-ary activity of the Church in parishes throughout the United States as a mis-

sionary comes to preach to us about the missionary cause at weekend liturgies once a year. Operation Rice Bowl gives us a greater awareness of the Church’s missionary activity during the Season of Lent. Some parishes have “sister par-ishes” that support a church in another country. Our Association is proud of its efforts in the missionary activity of the Church as at one of our conventions the delegates voted to donate one mil-lion dollars for churches to be built in Africa in the person of His Eminence, Jozef Cardinal Tomko, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, the missionary arm of the Catholic Church.

But our personal missionary activ-ity or evangelization efforts need not be half way around the world or a nearby country. As the Fathers of the Council declared above, there is the planting, then the youth, then beyond, keeping in mind that the “plant” always needs to be nurtured. Missionary activity should be based in each of our homes. How did we learn about Jesus? Many of us were schooled in our Faith primarily by our parents and family members. Here I am reminded of a blessing at the end of cel-ebration of the Sacrament of Baptism over the mother and father of the child. The one over the father is quite touching yet states the serious obligations of the parents who bring their child to church for Baptism. It states, “God is the giver of all life, human and divine. May he bless the father of this child. He and his wife will be the first teachers of their child in the ways of faith. May they be also the best of teachers, bearing witness to the faith by what they say and do in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen” (Rite of Baptism, paragraph 105).

As Jesus pointed the Way to the apos-tles and disciples in proclamation of the Good News before His Ascension, so too, He points the Way to each one of us. We must plant, nurture, and live the Good News – in our homes, in our parishes, in our country and throughout the world. It is a difficult ministry to be missionaries but it affords us the Way to eternity!

ListeningtoMr.Hegnaspeak,Ibegantowonder,withallthisdoomandgloom,whathissolutionsmightbe.Iwasquicklyrewarded,however,withseveralpractical solutions

to announce theopeningofBranchS636inPeoria,IL!Imademywayout toPeoria,ILonMay19th. The grandopeningdinnerwasheld that evening.The trip out therewasapieceofcakeand every th ingwentsmoothly.

Itwas a small group, but itwas a really goodgroup.Weaccomplishedalotwithourbrainstormingideasforthefutureofthebranch.ThenewbranchwaswelcomedbyMaryThereseTylus,ChicagoDistrictPresidentandPatrickBraun,NationalSalesManager.Thank youboth formaking the trip.Startinganewbranchisalwayschallenging–butIknowKatieNewellandFrankMooneywilldoagreatjobinspreadingthefraternalspirit!Everybranchisalittledifferentandhasdifferentneeds.IknowKatieandFrankareworkinghard tocontinue togrow theirmembershipandarelookingatplanningabranchactivityinthenearfuture.MacTavaresitwasapleasuremeetingyou.

The trip homewas a littlemore challenging. Icouldn’tseemtogetoutofthestateofIllinois.Therewereabout5delaysoutofPeoriaAirport(mechanicalissueswiththeplane).OnceIdidgetoutofPeoria,ImissedmyconnectingflightatO’Hare,Chicago.Luck-ilyIwasabletogetonanotherflight.(Iwaswithoutaflightatonepoint).Myluggagehoweverwasnotaslucky.Thedramadidnotendthere.ThentherewereproblemsleavingO’Hare.Wejustboardedtheplaneandtheflightattendantcameovertheloudspeakerandaskedus tode-board theplane– itwasgoingto the hanger (not a good sign). I finally got hometoClevelandsome13hours later.My luggagewasMIA(if itwouldhavebeenthere Iwouldhavebeenshocked).ButbythenextmorningithadfounditswaytoClevelandandwasbeingdeliveredtomyhouse.Thejoysoftraveling!

It’stimeforsummerfestivalsandoneofourfavoriteistheMahoningValleySlovakFestinYoungstown,OH.ThiscelebrationofourSlovakrootswilltakeplaceonAugust10,2014onthegroundsofOurLadyofSorrowsParish,St.Mat-thiasChurch.Thislocationat2800ShadyRunRoadisintheSouthside neighbor-hood of Lansingville,alongacenteroftheYoungstown Slovakcommunity. Slovaksbegan coming to theYoungstown area inthelate1800’sfortheopportunitytoworkinthe area’s steelmillsand the supportingbusinesses.As theSlovak populat iongrew, churches andschools were builtand neighborhoodsformed.Typical of theSlovakethnic heritage, hardworkanddailystrugglesmeantthatwhentherewasachancetogatherandcelebratesomeeventitwasdoneenthusiasticallyandwithfood,musicandcamaraderie.

TheMahoningValleySlovakFest is ourwayof cel-ebrating our heritage andpassingthesetraditionsontothenewgenerations.Soif youhave fondmemoriesoftheethnicpicnicsandgettogethersof bygoneyears,orwouldliketocreatesomenewmemories, or just arelooking for great food andmusic, thenmark the dateonyourcalendarandcomedowntothefestival!

TheUNESCO list of eliteworld cultural and naturalheritagesitesisgrowingeveryyearandsince1993ithasbeenextendedtoincludefiveSlovaklocalities.The400thsiteon the list is thepicturesquemining townofBanskaŠtiavnicewithallthevarioustechnicalrelicsaroundit,notonlyofaminingcharacter,butalsothesystemofreservoirsandothertechnicalfacilities.Onaccountofitsprosperityandlarge-scaleproduction,mainlyofsilver,BanskáŠtiavnicawasalsocalledthesilvertown.In1740alonenearly23000kgofsilverand600kgofgoldwereminedhere.Evidenceofthewealthofthetownanditscitizenscanstillbeseentodayinthe215nationalculturalmonumentsandimpressivearchitecturalfeatures,butalsointheunusualpresenceoftwocastleswithinonetown(StarýzámokandNovýzámok— theNewandOldCastle) and twoLateRomanesquechurchesonly500metresapart.Theadvancedstandardofmining inBanskáŠtiavnica,which in the18thcenturywasthethirdlargesttowninHungary,isconfirmedbythedecisionofEmpressMariaTheresatoestablishaMiningAcademythere, thefirst technicaluniversity in theworld.Asplendidsystemmakinguseofwaterpowertodrivetheminingmachinerywasconstructedintheperiodfromthe16thto18thcenturies.Originallyitconsistedofasystemof60artificialreservoirsknownas“tajchy”,ingeniouslycon-nectedbyditchesandpressuretunnels.Severalkilometresofgalleries(atseventeenlevels)weredugoutbeneaththetown,reachingtoadepthof900metres.NowadaysminingisonlyatouristattractioninBanskáŠtiavnica.TrailswithinformationboardsrunalongbesidethesurvivingreservoirsinthepicturesquehillylandscapeoftheŠtiavnickévrchy.Hiddenundergroundthereisalabyrinthofmininggalleriesandshaftswithminingequipment,whileonthesurfacetherearehistoricalbuildingsandtechnicalfacilities.TheOutdoorMiningMuseumorganizessightseeingtripsdownthepits.Around40thousandvisitorscomehereeveryyear.

AnotherlocalityontheUNESCOListisasplendidsetofhistoricalbuildings—SpišCastle(Spišskýhrad),oneofthelargestcastleruinsincentralEurope,anditsassociatedculturalmonuments—SpišskéPodhradie,SpišskáKapitulaand theChurchof theHolySpirit (Kostol sv.Duchal), inŽehra. It really is rare forsuchagroup,consistingofanimportantfeudaladministrativecentrewitha littletowninthevalleybelowitandoppositeitafortifiedseatofchurchadministrationtohavesurvivedinsuchanintegratedform.ThiscomplexistobefoundintheeastofSlovakia,19kmfromLevoča.ThecastlecanbereachedfromHodkovce,nearthevillageofŽehra.SpišskáKapitulais6kmaway.

ThesilhouetteofSpišCastleon its travertine rock isvisible fromagreatdistance.Coveringanareaofover4hectares, therearefivecourtyardswithruinsofbuildingsfromthe12thto18thcenturies.Someoftheoldestandmostinterestingpartsoftheuppercastlearethecylindricalcentralkeep,19mhighand23mwide,andtheRomanesquegrandpalace,with15thand16thcenturyGothicalterations.In1780

itwasburneddownandhasbeenfallingintodisrepaireversince.PartsofthecastlecomplexnowhouseexhibitionsoftheSpišMuseum.

SpišskáKapitulaoriginatedinthe13thcenturyasthefortified seat of ecclesiastical administration, the seat oftheprovost.LateranindependentSpišbishopricwases-tablishedhere.Themassivewallsofthetinyecclesiasticaltownprotect 30 houses from canons, a bishop’s palaceandaseminarybuildingfromtheGothic,RenaissanceandBaroqueperiods.Alltheselineasinglestreet.Thedomi-natingfeatureofSpišskáKapitulaistheLateRomanesqueCathedralofSt.Martinwithitstwintowers.Hereyoucanfind theoldestRomanesquesculpture inSlovakia— theWhiteLion—Leoalbus.TheEarlyGothicChurchof theHolySpiritinŽehrawasbuiltafter1245usingSpištraver-tine.Althoughithasundergonealterations,thesehavenotdistributeditsoriginalmedievalcharacter.ThewallsofthechurcharedecoratedwithexceptionalGothicfrescoesonavarietyofthemes,datingfromthe13thto15thcenturies,themoststrikingofwhichisthe“Arborvitae”—thetreeoflife,fromthefirsthalfofthe15thcentury,iconographicallyillustratingsalvationanddamnation.

TheVlkolínec heritage reserveof folk architecture isseeminglyatinyLiptovvillagenearthetownofRužomberok.ThelittlesettlementintheVeľkáFatramountains,nestlingunderthesteeprockyslopesofSidorovopeak,hassome-howresistednotonlytime,butalsoallthechangesthathavecausedsimilarhamletstofallintooblivion.Theuniquegroupofover45originalloghomesteadsperchedonstonefounda-tions,withclay-plasteredwallsandshingleroofsisproofofthis.Vlkolínecisnotamuseum,butaliving,authenticvillage.Itshistoricalcentreisdominatedbyawoodenbelfryfrom1770andthelogwelldatingfrom1860isalsoararity.TheaccessroadtothemountainvillageleadsfromBielyPotok,3kmfromRužomberokinthedirectionofBanskáBystrica.

Attheendof2000thehistoricaltowncentreofBardejovwasaddedtothelistofelitelocalitiesintheworld.The14thcenturySt.Giles’Church(Chrámsv.Egídia)remindsusofthetown’sgoldenagelastingfromthe14thto15thcentury.Thetriple-navebasilicahidesaEuropeanrarity—11LateGothicwingaltarswithpanelpaintings,stillinstalledintheiroriginalpositions.Thechurch issituatedon thenorthernsideofthecentral,rectangularsquare,whichislinedwithrestored burgher houseswith characteristic high gabledroofs,pointingtotheiroriginsintheMiddleAges.Thefocalpointofthesquareisthetownhallfromthe16thcentury.IthasGothicfoundations,anupperfloorwithelementsofItalianRenaissanceandaninterestingorielstaircase.Thehistoricalcentreofthetown,with its131nationalculturalmonuments,isenclosedbyexceptionallywellpreservedcityfortifications.In1986BardejovwasthefirsttowninformerCzechoslovakia towin aEuropean prize—UNESCO’sICOMOSGoldMedal for rescuing and restoring culturalheritage.

Peter Pan and Wendy

The Darling family lived on a quiet street in London.There were three children in the family — Wendy, John

and little Michael. The children had a nurse called Nana.Nana was a Saint Bernard dog. Nana was a good nurse.She walked the children to school in the morning and shepicked them up in the afternoon. Nana made sure that thechildren ate their spinach at dinner and all night she stayedby their beds.

At bedtime Wendy always told stories to her brothers.Her best story was about Peter Pan. “Peter Pan lived inNeverland,” she told them. “It is a magic place where chil-dren never grow up. There are fairies in Neverland, and wildanimals, and pirates, too!”

One night mother and father came in to say good nightbefore a party. They found the boys in the middle of a noisypirate fight.

“Stop it at once!” said father, “you are too old to playpirates, and you are too old to have a nurse, too!”

Father put Nana on a leash. “Wendy,” he said, “you lookafter your brothers and no more stories!” Father took Nanadownstairs and tied her up in the yard.

Then he and mother went off to the party. Poor Nana!She was unhappy away from the children.

Then in through the bedroom window flew Peter Pan and

the fairy Tinker Bell! Peter loved Wendy’s stories. He hidoutside the window every night and listened to them. Peterhad heard what father said. “Come to Neverland with me!”said Peter.” Wendy can tell stories to me and my friends,the Lost Boys. John and Michael can help me fight pirates!”“Hooray!” said John.

“How will we get to Neverland?” asked Wendy. “We willfly!” said Peter. He threw some fairy dust on the children.“Now think happy thoughts!” said Peter. So the children did.In a twinkling, they all floated up to the ceiling. “We’re fly-ing!” they cried. Out the window the children flew. “Followme!” called Peter Pan. “This way to Neverland!”

Down in the yard, Nana barked and barked. But no oneheard her. Peter and the children flew and flew. Finally theyreached Neverland. They landed safely on a cloud. But rightbelow them were pirates — Captain Hook and his mate, Mr.Smee!

Captain Hook hated Peter Pan. He was always tryingto capture Peter. He looked up and saw Peter on the cloud.“Now I’ve got you!” shouted Captain Hook. “Mr. Smee, firethe cannon!” The cannonball whizzed through the air. It justmissed Peter and the children! “Whew! That was close!” saidJohn. “It is too dangerous here,” said Peter. “Tink, you takethe children to the Lost Boys. I will stay and keep an eyeon Hook.” John and Michael wanted to watch the pirates,too. But Peter made them go with Tinker Bell. The childrenfollowed Tink to the home of Peter and the Lost Boys.

They lived in a secret cave under an old tree. The LostBoys did not have a mother. So they were very happy tosee Wendy. When Peter got to the cave, he said, “threecheers for Wendy, boys! She is going to tell us stories.”“Hooray! Hooray! Hooray!” cried the boys. But Tinker Belldid not say hooray. Tink felt left out. She tried to think ofsomething mean to do to Wendy. She decided to go seeCaptain Hook!

Tinker Bell told Captain Hook all about Wendy. “I canhelp you get rid of Wendy,” said Captan Hook. “I will cap-ture her and make her scrub the decks of my ship!” TinkerBell looked pleased. “There is just one thing,” said Hook witha wicked smile. “I do not know where to find Wendy. Youmust show me where Peter lives.”

So Tink marked a path to the secret cave on CaptainHook’s map. She did not guess that the pirate planned tocapture Peter!

At the cave, Wendy was telling stories. Peter and theLost Boys wanted to hear every story she knew. But Johnand Michael began to miss mother and father. Finally Wendysaid, “It is time to go home.”

“I don’t want you to leave!” cried Peter. He would noteven say good-bye. Waving sadly, Wendy followed her broth-ers and the Lost Boys out of the cave.

Tinker Bell was happy to see Wendy go! Outside thecave, the pirate crew was waiting! The men captured thechildren as they came out of the cave. Wendy and the boys

were marched off to Captain Hook. “Blast you, Smee!” saidHook when he saw the children. “You did not bring me Pe-ter Pan!” Tinker Bell heard Captain Hook. Now she knewthat Hook had tricked her! He only wanted to capture PeterPan. Tink flew to tell Peter what had happened. Maybe Petercould save the children. The pirates took the children to theship. Captain Hook said to the children, “you can all join upwith me and be pirates — or you can walk the plank!”

Wendy was not afraid of Captain Hook. “I will never bea pirate!” she cried. “Then you will be the first to walk theplank,” said Hook.

He tied Wendy’s hands behind her back. Wendy bravelystarted to walk the plank. All of a sudden, Peter and TinkerBell flew onto the pirate ship! Peter and Tink quickly cut theropes around the children. Then Peter and the children be-gan to chase the pirates. Peter flew everywhere with hissword. What a fight there was!

Most of the pirates jumped off the ship. Wendy and theboys cheered. The last pirate left was Captain Hook. Peterflew around and around him. Captain Hook tried to catchPeter. But Peter was too fast for Captain Hook. Hook gotdizzy and fell into the sea — right beside a hungry croco-dile! Captain Hook swam for his life!

“Ha, ha, ha!” called Peter. Then Peter threw some fairydust on the children, and away they all flew. Peter flew backto London with Wendy, John and Michael.

Sweet and Savory

OVERNIGHT BLUEBERRY FRENCH TOAST

ANd SYRUpFrench Toast12 slices french bread, cut into cubes1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, cut in cubes1 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)12 large eggs¹/³ cup maple syrup2 cups milk (or light cream)1 teaspoon vanilla

Syrup1 cup sugar1 cup water2 tablespoons cornstarch1 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)1 tablespoon butter

Arrange ½ of the bread cubes in a greased 9 x 13 pan. Sprinkle cream cheese cubes and blueberries evenly over the bread cubes. Top and evenly sprinkle with remain-ing bread cubes.

Mix together eggs, syrup, milk and vanilla in a large bowl. Pour over bread cubes. Cover pan with foil. Let chill in refrigerator overnight.

Bake covered with foil at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 30 minutes or until fluffy and golden. Top with blueberry syrup.

Blueberry SyrupIn a medium saucepan over medium

heat, cook water, sugar, and cornstarch until thickened. Stir in blueberries and simmer for 10 minutes. Add butter and stir until melted. Serve over the french toast.

BLUE CHEESE dRESSING1 cup mayonnaise1 cup crème fraiche¼ cup buttermilk¼ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce1 teaspoon sugarPinch cayenne2 dashes Tabasco¼ teaspoon dry mustard ½ teaspoon salt1 cup crumbled, good-quality blue cheese

In a large bowl, combine all ingredients except blue cheese and mix well with a wire whisk.

Fold in the blue cheese and serve.

WHITE pIzzA dIp1 pint grape tomatoes, cut in half1 teaspoon olive oil¼ teaspoon salt¼ teaspoon pepper1½ (12 ounces) blocks cream cheese, softened8 ounces mozzarella cheese, grated8 ounces provolone cheese, grated¼ cup finely grated Parmesan cheese4 garlic cloves, minced or pressed¼ cup freshly chopped basil leaves2 tablespoons freshly chopped thyme leaves½ tablespoon freshly chopped oregano leaves

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil then place tomatoes on top. Sprinkle with olive oil and salt, then roast for 20-25 minutes, until bursting. Set aside.

While tomatoes are roasting, mix soft-ened cream cheese with about 7 ounces each of provolone and mozzarella, and Parmesan. Stir in fresh herbs, garlic and roasted tomatoes, mixing well to combine.

Transfer mixture to an oven-safe baking dish. Sprinkle with remaining provolone and mozzarella. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until top is golden and bubbly. Serve immediately with crackers, chips or toasted bread.

BLUE RIBBON AppLE CAKE

3 cups flour1 teaspoon baking soda2 teaspoons cinnamon½ teaspoon nutmeg½ teaspoon salt1½ cups vegetable oil1½ cups granulated sugar½ cup brown sugar3 eggs2 teaspoons vanilla3 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and cut into large pieces 1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Glaze 3 tablespoons butter

3 tablespoons brown sugar3 tablespoons granulated sugar3 tablespoons heavy cream¼ teaspoon vanilla

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease and flour a 12-cup Bundt pan and set aside.

In a large bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Sift two additional times and set aside.

In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine oil and both sugars, and mix until well blended.

Add eggs one at a time, mixing thor-oughly after each addition. Add vanilla and mix again. Add the sifted dry ingredients to the batter and mix thoroughly. By hand, fold in apples and walnuts and mix until evenly combined. Spoon the batter into the prepared Bundt pan.

Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Remove cake from the oven and allow to cool in the pan for 20 minutes.

While the cake is cooling, prepare the glaze. In a saucepan, over medium heat, combine all of the glaze ingredients. Bring to a boil and allow the mixture to boil for 1 min-ute. Remove the cake from the pan, onto a serving plate. Spoon the glaze over the warm cake. Cool for a little longer before serving.

WHITE WINE SANGRIA3 oranges, sliced1 lemon, sliced1 lime, sliced1 750 ml. bottle of fruity, white wine (Chardonnay, Rieseling, Pinot Grigio, or Sauvignon Blanc)2 ounces Triple Sec½ liter of ginger ale

Place orange, lemon and lime slices in a large pitcher.

Add the wine and Triple Sec. With a large wooden spoon, stir the contents of the pitcher until mixed. Gently press the slices of fruit toward the bottom of the pitcher to release some of the fruit juices into to wine.

Refrigerate overnight (or for a minimum of four hours). Just before serving, add the ginger ale and stir again to mix. Pour into glasses to serve. Serve over ice if desired.

REd GRApE SALAd1 can (20 ounces) pineapple tidbits2 packages (3 ounces each) cream cheese, softened2 tablespoons mayonnaise3 cups miniature marshmallows2 cups seedless red grapes, halved1 cup heavy whipping cream, whipped

Drain the pineapple, reserving 2 table-spoons juice; set pineapple aside.

In a bowl, beat juice, cream cheese and mayonnaise until fluffy. Stir in pineapple, marshmallows and grapes. Fold in whipped cream. Serve immediately or refrigerate.
