Alleluia. Christ our Passover has been sacrificed for us; therefore let us keep the feast, Not with the old leaven, the leaven of malice and evil, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. Alleluia.

Christ being raised from the dead will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. The death that he died, he died to sin, once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.

Christ Our Passover

So also consider yourselves dead to sin, and alive to God in Jesus Christ our Lord. Alleluia.

Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ shall all be made alive. Alleluia.

Psalm 23Prayed by Reader 1

1 The Lord is my shepherd;

I shall not be in want.

2 He makes me lie down in green pastures

and leads me beside still waters.

3 He revives my soul

and guides me along right pathways for his Name's sake.

4 Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I shall fear no evil;

for you are with me;

your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5 You spread a table before me in the presence of those who

trouble me;

you have anointed my head with oil,

and my cup is running over.

6 Surely your goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,

and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

First Lesson - Acts 4:5-12Reader 2: A reading from the Acts of the Apostles.

The rulers, elders, and scribes assembled in Jerusalem, with Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, John, and Alexander, and all who were of the high-priestly family. When they had made the prisoners stand in their midst, they inquired, "By what power or by what name did you do this?" Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers of the people and elders, if we are questioned today because of a good deed done to someone who was sick and are asked how this man has been healed, let it be known to all of you, and to all the people of Israel, that this man is standing before you in good health by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead.

“This Jesus is

`the stone that was rejected by you, the builders;it has become the cornerstone.'

There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among mortals by which we must be saved."

Canticle 12: A Song of Creation

Let all creation bless the Lord,

till heav'n with praise is ringing.

Sun, moon, and stars, peal out a chord,

stir up the angels' singing.

Sing, wind and rain! Sing, snow and sleet!

Make music, day, night, cold and heat:

exalt the God who made you.

Page 14: Voice of the People Welcome to Morning Prayer Reader 3

All living things upon the earth,

green fertile hills and mountains,

sing to the God who gave you birth;

be joyful, springs and fountains.

Lithe waterlife, bright airborne birds,

wild roving beasts, tame flocks and herds:

exalt the God who made you.

Page 15: Voice of the People Welcome to Morning Prayer Reader 3

O men and women everywhere,

lift up a hymn of glory;

let all who know God's steadfast care

tell out salvation's story.

No tongue be silent; sing your part,

you humble souls and meek of heart:

exalt the God who made you.

Second Lesson - 1 John 3:16-24 Reader 3: A Reading from the first letter of John

We know love by this, that he laid down his life for us-- and we ought to lay down our lives for one another. How does God's love abide in anyone who has the world's goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses help?

Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action. And by this we will know that we are from the truth and will reassure our hearts before him whenever our hearts condemn us; for God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.

Please be advised that this service is being recorded.

(continued)

Page 17: Voice of the People Welcome to Morning Prayer Reader 3

Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have boldness before God; and we receive from him whatever we ask, because we obey his commandments and do what pleases him.

And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us. All who obey his commandments abide in him, and he abides in them. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit that he has given us.

O ruler of the universe, Lord God, great deeds are they that you have done, surpassing human understanding. Your ways are ways of righteousness and truth, O King of all the ages.

Who can fail to do you homage, Lord, and sing the praises of your Name? for you only are the Holy One. All nations will draw near and fall down before you, because your just and holy works have been revealed.

The Holy Gospel: John 10:11-18Reader 4: A reading from the Gospel of John

Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. The hired hand, who is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away—and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. The hired hand runs away because a hired hand does not care for the sheep. I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. And I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold.

“I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life in order to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it up again. I have received this command from my Father.”

The Lord is my Shepherd, no want shall I know;I feed in green pastures, safe-folded I rest;He leadeth my soul where the still waters flow,Restores me when wand’ring, redeems when oppressed.

In the midst of affliction my table is spread;With blessings unmeasured my cup runneth o’er;With perfume and oil thou anointest my head;O what shall I ask of thy providence more?

Let goodness and mercy, my bountiful God,Still follow my steps till I meet Thee above;I seek by the path which my ancestors trod,Through the land of their sojourn, thy kingdom of love.

Remembering All Who Have Been Affected by Gun Violence

Officiant: We pray in remembrance of those impacted by gun violence, both those who have been injured and those who have been killed in cities and towns across our country, and close to home in Connecticut. We hold their memories dear. We treasure those lives permanently altered through injury or those taken in senseless acts of violence, and we pray that they might find rest and peace. May their lives continue to make a difference in our world. Together we pray.

Assist us, Lord, in living hopefully into the future. In the face of change, help us to set unnecessary fears aside and to recognize our potential for creative response. Help us to develop a reasonable optimism when confronted by “the new” and to guard against our own defensiveness. Be with us as we remember and celebrate former times, and keep us from unreasonable yearning for them, which takes us from the work you have set before us in our time. All this we ask in the name of your Child, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
