Bronx leaders from both public and private sectors gathered at Tosca
Marquee to celebrate Bronx Hispanic Heritage by honoring leaders of the Bronx community. The honorees are active in public or private sectors; and
their contributions to the community are significant.
The Bronx Chamber of Commerce would like to extend continued congratulations and thanks for the work Honorees contribute to our
borough on a daily basis.
Given the recent natural disasters in Puerto Rico and Mexico, attendees
were given the opportunity to donate toward relief efforts to funds set up by NYS Senator Jeff Klein and Assemblyman Mark Gjonaj. ■

HUTCHINSON METRO CENTER
INTRODUCES
SEPTEMBER 11TH MEMORIAL
In memoriam of the lives lost from the September 11, 2001 terrorist
attacks, the Hutchinson Metro Center unveiled the recently erected 9/11 memorial on Wednesday, September 13th.
The memorial is located next to the parking lot of the Marriott Residence
Inn. The monument behests a large bronze eagle with a six-foot wingspan holding a steel beam recovered from the original World Trade
Center. The beam was donated to the Hutch Metro Center by the Port
Authority with the contingency that they “do something good with it”.
The result is the Hutchinson Metro Center 9/11 Memorial. The base of the monument reads “We Will Never Forget” in honor of the folks who
tragically lost their lives that fateful day.
Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. gave a powerful speech regarding importance of the democratic process, and what the monument
represents for future generations of Americans and the Bronx
Community. ■

BRONX COMMUNITY
HEALTH NETWORK
PROMOTING HEALTHY
NUTRITION THROUGH
WORKSITE WELLNESS
PROGRAM
Participants include Bronx Chamber of Commerce and Fordham Road Business Improvement District
Bronx Community Health Network (BCHN) has released "Go Healthy at Work: A Worksite Wellness Toolkit" in both English and Spanish. "Go Healthy at Work" was developed by BCHN as part of its Bronx REACH Champs Worksite Wellness Initiative, and is intended for community and faith-based organizations, schools and other worksites seeking to improve the health of the Bronx workforce.
"We are proud to be working with the Bronx Chamber of Commerce and leadership of local organizations and networks to make a commitment to promote healthy nutrition habits in their work environment," said BCHN chief executive officer Eleanor Larrier. "By making healthy beverage, meal and snack options available for employees, volunteers, clients and guests, these organizations have taken an important step towards improving the overall health of Bronx residents."
A worksite wellness program is a single or collection of voluntary health promotion activities or an organization-wide structure that supports healthy behaviors and has the potential to improve health outcomes for employees. The programs can be as complex or as simple as an organization has the ability to provide.
The toolkit is a resource to get organizational worksite wellness programs started through the adoption of the New York City Voluntary Food Standards, thus making the healthy choice, the easy choice, when eating and drinking at work.
Participating organizations in the Worksite Wellness program include the Bronx Chamber of Commerce and the Fordham Road Business Improvement District. ■
The Bronx REACH Champs Worksite Wellness initiative is funded by the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention.
