Customisation of the installation
Vodafone Mobile Broadband via the phone is available as a device embedded solution (on a limited range of devices) as well as a standalone solution known as VTP Full. This section is only relevant for customers using the Full solution. Users of an embedded version will not be able to customise the installation.
Components of the VTP Full solution Vodafone Mobile Broadband via the phone VTP (Full) consists of two MSI installers:
• Vodafone Mobile Broadband VTP.msi
• Vodafone Mobile Broadband VTP.Full.msi.
The first installer contains the main application.
The second installer contains the VTP Full specific components and the RIM® BlackBerry® drivers.
The installers must be executed in the above order. The following sections describe the command line parameters for both MSI installers.
General use of MSI command line parameters MSI packages can be generally configured with command line parameters. This allows the settings of Vodafone VTP to be changed without making any changes to the installation package.
The following code is a sample MSI command line:
• Msiexec.exe /i “Vodafone Mobile Broadband via the phone.msi” LOCKED_OPCO=”23415” /norestart /qn
• Msiexec.exe calls the Microsoft Windows Installer which installs the MSI-Package
• /i “msi filename” is the command for installation of a MSI-Package
• OPCO_PROP=”OPCO Code” ” determines which operator network will be installed.
• /norestart suppresses a reboot if required
• /qn sets silent installation (No User interface).
6
This MSI command line would install the Vodafone VTP software silently (without any user interface, that means the user has no interactation with the installation procedure) with the Vodafone UK OPCO (OPCO = 23415) and without a reboot of the system after the installation.
MSI command line parameters can be called directly via the Windows command line:
Or they can be executed from a batch file for multiple use:
Msiexec.exe /i “D:\Vodafone Mobile Broadband via the phone.msi” LOCKED_OPCO=”23415” /norestart /qn.
Please note that the current file location of the MSI file must be included in the command, if it is not in the same location as the Msiexec.exe or the batch file.

Lock billing type
VTP can be locked to a specific billing type by using the parameter LOCKED_BILLING_TYPE. Example: LOCKED_BILLING_TYPE=”Contract”
Valid settings are:
• Contract
• PayAndGo.
If this setting used, the user will not be prompted to select the billing type on first run.
Disable the software update module The Flexnet software update feature is deployed by default. This can be suppressed using: INSTALL_FLEXNET=0.
Adding custom connections to the VTP installer To define a custom network connection for VTP, the connection must be added in the “userconnections.xml” file and selected by using the LOCKED_CONNECTION-Parameter. This section describes how custom connection can be added and applied.
Adding custom connections to the ‘UserConnections.xml’ The file “userconnections.xml” can be found in the following path: <VTP install folder>CommonAppData\Vodafone\Via the phone.
The custom connection can be added in the XML-file. The structure is the following: <Connection type=”user” opcode=”” opcodeName=””>
<name>Dummy connection</name>

To use the customised connection add the “userconnections.xml” file to a MSI transform (See page 15) and select the connection using the LOCKED_CONNECTION-Parameter.
Changing the language settings The language of the installation process and the application can be chosen by applying one of the supplied language transform files. The language settings can be applied via MSI command line parameters: Example: msiexec /i “installer name” /qn TRANSFORMS=”2070.mst” This command sets the installation and client language to Portuguese. To combine the language settings with a customisation please make a copy of the desired language transform (e.g. 2070.mst) and apply all changes to the copy.
These languages are currently supported:
Language (Country) Decimal Code Bulgarian (Bulgaria) 1026 Czech (Czech Republic) 1029 German (Germany) 1031 Greek (Greece) 1032 Spanish (Traditional) 1034 French (France) 1036 Hungarian (Hungary) 1038 Italian (Italy) 1040 Dutch (Netherlands) 1043 Romanian (Romania) 1048 Croatian (Croatia) 1050 Turkish (Turkey) 1055 English (United Kingdom) 2057 Portuguese (Portugal) 2070
Or you can apply the language directly to the MSI (see page 15).
11
Command line parameters for the VTP Full installer Please ensure the main “Vodafone Mobile Broadband via the phone.msi” is installed prior to installing the VTP Full installer (“Vodafone Mobile Broadband via the phone Full.msi”).
Disable RIM® driver installation Drivers for RIM® devices are installed by default. This can be suppressed using:
RIM_DRIVERS=0.
Enable manual start and manual stop of VTP
The default behaviour of VTP Full is to automatically launch when a supported device is inserted and to automatically shutdown when the device currently in use is removed. This can be suppressed so that VTP does not automatically launch or shutdown when the device is inserted/removed using:
MANUALSTARTSTOP=1.
The close ('X' icon) button on the main VTP interface will fully shutdown VTP when manual start and stop is enabled instead of the default behaviour which minimises the user interface.
Due to the normal behaviour of VTP relying on an auto run mechanism to launch when a device is detected, there is no obvious method for the user to launch VTP when manual start stop mode is enabled.
It is the responsibility of the administrator/Installer to create the required end user shortcuts to launch VTP. The file specified below should be the target of any shortcuts to launch VTP manually.
<Program Files Directory>\Vodafone\Via the phone\VodafoneLauncher.exe
Additional Drivers Please note that Vodafone Mobile Broadband VTP (Full) contains drivers for RIM devices only. Additional drivers supported by VTP (see page 4) must be installed separately. The necessary driver packages are available from the respective manufacturer’s website
Configuring VTP installer using a transform file A Windows Installer Transform is a database that contains the differences between two MSI databases. A transform can only be applied to an MSI database which is going to be installed, not to a product that is already installed on a target machine. Transforms are useful for system administrators to provide variations of a single product without having to modify the original installer. Multi-language installations are also performed by a default language contained in the MSI database and several transform files for the localised strings used by each language.
In this section we will describe how a MSI transform is created, how you can replace files using a transform file and how to apply a transform file to your software installation. For the creation of the transform file we will use ORCA®, a free tool from Microsoft®. Please note that there are other tools for the creation of transform files.
The ORCA tool from Microsoft can be downloaded from the following Web page:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/255905/EN-US
12
Creating a transform file The following instructions are describing base steps to create a transform file and to perform common tasks with the ORCA software from Microsoft. All tasks can actually be put into one single transform.
General: Create a transform file This section describes the general steps to create a transform file. For any tasks see the further sections. If you would like to change the installation language, please see page 13.
• Open Orca
You should see the following window:
• Open the original “Vodafone Mobile Broadband via the phone” MSI file
From File menu, select Open and browse to the file “Vodafone Mobile Broadband via the phone.msi”
You now see the MSI structure:
• Create a new transform
From the Transform menu, select New Transform
In the title bar you should see that the MSI file is now transformed by a Transform:
From now on, any changes to the MSI will be saved in the Transform file. The original MSI will not be changed.
• Perform any task to the transform.
See further sections for more information.
• Save the transform
Select “Generate Transform” from Transform menu.
13
Name your transform file:
Close your new transform file
• Exit Orca
Now you have created a transform file for any MSI tasks. See the next sections to learn about the changes which can be applied to the MSI via a transform file
Task: Applying a language transform file To set the installation language of VTP without a MSI command, you can apply the language transform file directly to the MSI transform. Please note that the language transform file must be applied before any other change. The steps are described below.
• Open the original “Vodafone Mobile broadband via the phone” MSI file.
From File menu, select Open and browse to the file “Vodafone Mobile Broadband via the phone.msi.”
From the file menu, select Open and browse to the file ‘Vodafone Mobile Broadband via the phone.msi’
Apply the language transform file
Select “Apply Transform…” in the Transform menu:
14
Choose the language transform file you would like to apply:
The green bars on the left pane indicate the applied language settings:
You can now apply further changes (see other tasks) or save the transform file (See page12).
Task: Change MSI properties The installation process can be configured using MSI properties. page 5 describes how to configure the installation via the MSI command line parameters. The parameters can also be applied directly in an MSI transform. The result is the same as using command line parameters.
To change MSI properties, please follow these steps (a transform file must already have been created, see page 12):
• Select the “Property” table in the left pane:
• Choose the property you like to change:
15
Apply the change:
The green bars indicate a change in the MSI transform. You can now apply further changes (see other tasks) or save the transform file (See page 12).

Deployment of Vodafone Mobile Broadband via the phone using a Software Management System
This section gives a description of the general deployment process of VTP.
Getting started Before configuring the automatic deployment of VTP, please make sure you have all necessary files for the software installation. Please confirm that the software is correctly configured and all customisations have been applied. We recommend that you use a test environment to check the installation package before deployment.
Applying VTP to your Software Management System After passing all tests, the software can be applied to your Software Management System (SMS). At this point we abstract from technical details, because these strongly depend on your corporate software environment and the SMS you are using. Please refer to your SMS documentation.
Generally there are two ways to deploy your software package:
• As an MSI Package
• As a single executable.
When deploying an MSI package you can control the configuration via your Software Management System (refer to your SMS documentation). Alternatively, you can build a single executable for your software package using a third-party tool (for example Winzip® or Installshield®). In this case, the SMS is used for deployment only. All configurations are made in the executable file and cannot be controlled via the SMS. Please note, that depending on your SMS other package configurations can be possible. Refer to your SMS documentation for the best way to deploy your software package.
Deployment process The Software Management System (SMS) deploys your software package to all designated clients. Depending on your SMS the installation will be executed on the target systems. Please note that the installation of VTP requires admin rights. After the installation is complete the software is ready for use.
