Lab Terms Used
Used in Labs Possible Entities Meaning
RDP into tsX
Use the Remote Desktop Client from the PC in the training center to connect to the Terminal Server number provided by the instructor.
You will log into tsX.vmtraining.net with the user account vmuser# and your assigned password. (the Terminal Server tsX varies per instructor per class)
DRAC into DRAC#
From inside your Terminal Server Session, you will connect to the Remote Access Card (drac#.vi3.vm) in your assigned Dell Server to Power On, Power Off, Power Cycle & Reboot the physical server in our datacenter.
You will also use the DRAC to mount ISO images to install ESX on your assigned Dell Server as well as upgrade your Dell server to the latest version of ESXi.
VIC into ESX# or VCTSxThe vSphere Client application (GUI) already installed in the Terminal Server that you will use from
your TS session to connect to and manage your assigned ESXi host (esx#.vi3.vm) or your vCenter Server (VCTSx.vi3.vm)
PuTTY into ESX#
A common command line SSH utility used in ESX to connect to and manage ESXi hosts from a command line or CLI.
When you see this directive in the labs, Double-Click on the PuTTY icon on the Terminal Server desktop in your TS session
Console into VM#
Opening a Virtual Machine Console is opening a Window or a session to a virtual machine. From here you can log into the Operating System running inside the Virtual Machine (VM). On real Windows servers that means pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del, in a VM Console that means pressing
Ctrl-Alt-Ins.
Browse to Web siteUse Internet Explorer to browse to a particular website such as the View Manager or View Portal
on a Connection Server
# n/aThe number assigned to you by your instructor before Lab 1. Everywhere you see a word with a #
sign at the end of it, replace the # sign with your assigned number. We refer to this throughout the course as your assigned server # or your assigned student#
X n/a Typically, the lowest numbered Terminal Server used in Class, so TS5, X = 5.
- - - -helpThese are double dashes, a space was added in the manual printing to keep them separate, but
you should type dashdash
