The Mexican region that has as a distinctive character a smile on the faces of its inhabitants is Veracruz. The Club is located on 100,000 acres of marsh and wetlands of the Chiricahueto Lagoon, Caimanero and Ensenada Pabellones near Culiacan, Mexico. In this ecosystem declared ‘’Wetland of International Importance’’ there are over 14 species of native and migrant ducks, including pintail, cinnamon teal , blue-winged teal, green-winged teal, Scaup, Northern Shoveler and the native Pichiguila.

Founded after the visit of President “Ike” Eisenhower in 1966, this world class club guarantees complete satisfaction and privacy to the sportsmen

Por más de 47 años, Pichiguila Club ha sido reconocido como lo último en cacería de patos en Norteamérica. El club está ubicado en 100,000 acres de marismas y humedales de la Laguna Chiricahueto, Caimanero y En-senada Pabellones, cerca de Culiacán, Sina-loa, México. En este ecosistema decretado “humedal protegido de Importancia Inter-nacional” hay más de 14 especies de patos nativos y migrantes, incluyendo el Pato Go-londrino, la Cerceta Canela, Cerceta de Alas Azules, Cerceta de Alas Verdes, el Boludo Chico, el Pato Cucharon y Pichiguila, el ave local.

Fundado después de la visita del Presi-dente de Estados Unidos “Ike” Eisenhower, en 1966, este Club de clase mundial ga-rantiza total satisfacción y privacidad a los deportistas que vienen por la caza de pato y paloma, ofreciendo estancia en habitaciones esplendidas con baños privados y amplias terrazas, cocina de primera clase y servicios excelentes, incluyendo guías altamente cali-ficados, recogederos expertos, conductores de aerobotes, chef cocinero, barman, ade-más de servicio de habitaciones, permisos y licencias de caza, limpieza de armas y proce-samiento de aves.

R afael Moreno Valle Rosas nació el 30 de junio del año 1968 en la capital poblana, actualmente funge como

Gobernador Constitucional del estado para el periodo 2011-2017, y a tres años del co-mienzo de la gestión conocida como more-novallista, ha demostrado ser un político comprometido con la entidad y sus habi-tantes.

El panista cuenta con una biografía impecable, en la que sobresalen sus títu-los como Licenciado en Economía y Cien-cias Políticas por el Lycoming College de Pennsylvania; Doctor en Jurisprudencia por la Escuela de Leyes de la Universidad de Boston y graduado de un posgrado en Administración de Empresas en la Harvard University Extension School.

Proveniente de una familia de políti-cos, en la que destaca su antecesor el General Rafael Moreno Valle, también Gobernador de Puebla entre los años 1969 y 1972, el actual mandatario estatal dedicó su vida a la administración públi-ca desde el año 1991, como asesor del director de Normatividad de Derechos Humanos, Andrés Aguirre Aguilar, en la Secretaría de Gobernación.

A este puesto le sucedieron impor-tantes nombramientos como Secretario de Finanzas y Desarrollo Social del Gobi-erno del Estado de Puebla, Diputado por la LIX Legislatura del Honorable Con-greso de la Unión por el VIII Distrito Fed-eral Electoral del Estado, Diputado por la LVII Legislatura del Congreso del Estado, Presidente de la Gran Comisión del Con-greso Poblano, Presidente de la Comisión de Relaciones Exteriores de Organizacio-nes No Gubernamentales, Secretario de la Comisión de Defensa Nacional, integrante de las comisiones de Comercio y Fomento Industrial, de Seguridad Pública y miem-bro de la Comisión Especial para deter-minar las causas del bajo financiamiento para el desarrollo y el elevado monto de la deuda pública y sus instrumentos.

Si bien Moreno Valle dio inicio a su carrera como funcionario público bajo el cobijo del Partido Revolucionario Institu-cional (PRI), las irregularidades y corrup-telas que descubrió dentro del tricolor, le llevaron a distanciarse de este instituto e integrarse a las filas del albiceleste, un partido cuyas bases éticas y morales cu-brieron sus expectativas.

En 2010, el destacado politólogo llegó a colocarse como máximo gobernante del territorio poblano a través de la coalición Compromiso por Puebla, integrada por su partido, el Revolucionario Institucional (PRD), Convergencia y Nueva Alianza, con los que logró equilibrar su visión respecto a la dirigencia estatal.

Subsequently, he was appointed Sec-retary of Finance and Social Development of the Government of the State of Puebla, Deputy for the LIX Legislature of the Hon-orable Congress of the Union for the Eighth Federal Electoral District of the State, Deputy for the LVII Legislature of the State Congress , Chairman of the Grand Com-mittee of the Poblano Congress, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations of no-governmental Organizations, Secre-tary of the National Defense Commission, a member of the Committees on Commerce and Industrial Development, Public Security and member of the Special Committee Or-ganizations to determine the causes of low funding for the development and the high level of public debt and its instruments.

Although Moreno Valle began his career as a public officer under the shelter of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), the irregularities and corruption that he found within the party led him to distance himself from the institute and join the PAN, a party whose ethical and moral bases met his ex-pectations.

In 2010, the prominent political scientist came to be placed as the Governor of Puebla through Compromiso por Puebla (Commit-ment to Puebla) coalition, composed of his party, the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRD), Convergence and New Alliance, with which he was able to balance his vision for the state leadership.

// Aguachile is a typical dish from Sinaloa, with a shrimp base, combined with fresh ingredients (half kilo of shrimp, 2 large cucumbers, 3 chopped serrano or tree chilies, 2 tablespoons of cilantro, a cup of lemon juice, 1/4 red onion, as well as avocado, salt and pepper as desired, and accompanied by tostadas) that create an extraordinary flavor, appropriate for these regions’ warm weather. And it is so easy to prepare (just mix the ingredients!), that the recipe is no major problem to create a delicacy ... a hitch!

Allí la comodidad va de la mano con detalles que marcan la diferencia: posee siete alcobas con un romántico balcón para apreciar el hermoso panorama, sus once suites tienen jacuzzi y patio privado, y cuenta con dos master suite que contienen todos los elementos para disfrutar de una experiencia en extremo confortable. Y, atención, un detalle que da identidad y crea

cercanía con el huésped, es que cada una de estas habitaciones tiene el nombre de damas y caballeros que habitaron en la hacienda.

Otro atractivo de Hacienda La Magdalena es el enorme jardín que remonta a varias épocas de la historia mexicana: las fuentes, estanques, sauces, árboles frutales, aves y peces multicolores forman un bellísimo marco para disfrutar de eventos sociales, sesiones fotográficas, desfiles de moda o conciertos; tiene, también, la fachada perfectamente conservada de una capilla edificada en el siglo XVII.

Claro, un lugar de este nivel no podría estar completo sin un espacio destinado para la renovación, por lo cual el Spa Tierras Lejanas es todo un paraíso en tratamientos para pies y manos, terapias de agua o salas de vapor en un ambiente relajado y placentero.

Para quienes necesitan hacer reuniones de negocios, la finca cuenta con espacios que recrean el ambiente de un pueblo del siglo XIX y permiten albergar hasta a 100 personas, tiene servicio de Internet y salas de proyección, entre los muchos recursos que requiere un encuentro de tal naturaleza.

Un punto y aparte entre las delicias que pueden encontrarse en Hacienda La Magdalena es su cocina, donde son elaborados exquisitos platillos de la alta cocina mexicana e internacional. Por ejemplo, es el único establecimiento que prepara el Mole Blanco, cuya característica principal es que los ingredientes son de ese color: piñón blanco, cebollas, almendras, ajonjolí, coco rallado, chocolate blanco, crema y caldo de pollo, que dan como resultado un manjar por el cual vale la pena ir a conocer el lugar.

H acienda La Magdalena, with nearly three centuries of history, is a site that has been reinvented itself to provide, in this time, a

unique experience in hosting and Mexican cuisine. Located in Zapopan, the beautiful country house

is of historical significance because it was a cattle and farm center, and nowadays it is a boutique hotel affiliated with the Asociación de Haciendas y Casonas de Jalisco.

There, comfort goes hand in hand with details that make the difference: it has seven bedrooms with a romantic balcony to appreciate the beautiful panorama, its eleven suites have jacuzzi and private patios, and it also has two master suites containing all the elements to enjoy greatest comfort. ostiones y como no había un oyster bar completo en Guadalajara, decidimos ofrecer variedad basados en este marisco, lo que nos posicionó entre los comensales”, externa con orgullo Tomás Bermúdez, chef del restaurante, quien selecciona los ingredientes personalmente: “El lunes planeo la semana, el martes voy a un rancho para verificar la selección de carne; miércoles y jueves voy al Mercado del Mar a elegir los mejores pescados y mariscos, pues todo debe ser fresco, de la mejor calidad; el 70% de nuestros vegetales son orgánicos y de origen regional, hacemos nuestras panelas en Tapalpa”, destaca.

A hora que me eché un viaje por los Altos de Jalisco, me encontré una serie de contradicciones que palabra que no

las había tomado en cuenta: En “Lagos” no hay lagos, y “los Altos” no son altos; aunque eso si… ambos son parte de Jalisco.

En los Altos no hay cerros ni montañas que pudieran considerarse como altos; más bien son unas tierras planas que tienen poco que vérseles; y los lagos brillan por su ausencia. Los machos… dicen que hay por montones pero yo no vi ninguno. Charros… de esos si hay muchos y de los meros buenos. Gente bravía y trabajadora por donde quiera. Haciendas de lo más bonitas al final de cada vereda. Campos cultivados produciendo gallinas, pollos y huevos… muchos huevos. Ganado caballar de lo mejor; lo mismo que vacuno, y de esos bravos pa’ torear que nomás pintean en las lejanías por donde uno va pasando.

Contradicciones y más contradicciones de nuestro México surrealista fue lo que encontré en los Altos de Jalisco. Empezando con el escudo de armas que desde tiempos de la colonia ostenta la ciudad como grotesco resumen de cuando llegaron esos barbajanes dizque a “colonizar y civilizar” las tierras de por acá. Vean si no da coraje.

Una torre fuertemente amurallada sobre un lago -con las puertas irónicamente abiertas como signo de hospitalidad- aparece en el escudo. Dos montículos representando a los Xiconaques y Custiques -desde siempre dueños del lugar- con sendas banderas de los colores del Rey clavadas en las cimas, hablan de la brutal conquista Y para colmo… alrededor del escudo aparece la leyenda “Adversus populus xiconaques et custiques fortitudo” -fortaleza contra xiconaques

y rustiques-, a quienes ellos mismos describían como “las naciones más valientes y belicosas de todos los chichimecas”, quienes uniéndose para su defensa, “hostilizaban la colonización y la fundación de la villa”. Además, adjunto se menciona la “autorización para edificar ahí un pueblo español” (?). Así o más de bribones quieren a los conquistadores, de quienes increíblemente todavía seguimos conservando el escudo “concedido” por un rey que ni era de aquí.

La antigua Chichimequilla, vino a quedar en Lagos de Moreno: “Lagos” por Santa María de los Lagos; y “Moreno” -bien ganado nombre- en honor de Don Pedro Moreno, hijo de españoles que dio su vida -y literalmente su cabeza- luchando con los chichimecas contra sus criminales coterráneos por la libertad de nuestra nación. ¡Bien aiga por Don Pedro!

También prudente es reconocer que entre tanta voltereta de la historia, algo bueno quedó en esas tierras. Grandes haciendas -no esculquemos sus historias- han quedado en pié luciendo elegantes arquitecturas.

La Hacienda Sepúlveda pudiera ser un botón de muestra. En 1684 le fue otorgada a Don Juan de Sepúlveda “como un regalo” (?) de la Audiencia de Nueva Galicia; y posteriormente fue adquirida por la familia Serrano, por más de tres generaciones se han ocupado de mantenerla impecable y con señorío.

Siendo una de las más bellas haciendas de Jalisco -convertida ahora en un lujoso hoteles uno de los lugares que bien valen… si digo que una misa me estoy quedando corto.

Con un par de horas manejando desde Guadalajara, agradablemente podrán retroceder unos cuantos cientos de años. ¡Gócenla…!

N ow that I took a trip to the highlands of Jalisco, I found a series of word contradictions of which I had never taken notice: in “Lagos” there are no lakes, and “los Altos” are not high,

although they are both part of Jalisco.In the Highlands there are no hills or mountains that could be

considered as high, but there are rather flat lands that have little to do with mountainous lands, and lakes are literally absent. “Machos” ... they say there are lots of them, but I saw none. Charros (cowboys)... there effectively are many of those and they are some of the worst. Brave, hardworking people, everywhere. Some of the most beautiful haciendas at the end of each track. Cultivated fields producing hens, chickens and eggs ... lots of eggs. Some of the best horse cattle, as well as bovine cattle, and those brave ones for bullfighting, wandering around in the distance, wherever one goes.

Contradictions and more contradictions of our surreal Mexico, was what I found in the highlands of Jalisco. Starting with the coat of arms, that since colonial times has pictured the city as a grotesque abstract of what it was when those baboons supposedly came to “colonize and civilize” the land around here. You can imagine how annoying that is.

A strongly fortified tower on a lake with doors ironically opened, as a sign of hospitality, appears on the shield. Two mounds representing the Xiconaques and Custiques, who had always run the place, with the King’s own flag colors nailed onto the top of each mound, shows how brutal the conquest was, and on top of this… around the coat of arms appears the legend “Adversus populus xiconaques et custiques fortitudo”- fortress against xiconaques and rustiques-, who were described as “the bravest and most warlike of all chichimecas nations” and joining forces for their own defense, “harassed colonization and the founding of the village”. In addition is attached the legend “permit to build a Spanish village there”. (?) Like this or more crooked did you want the conquerors to be, of whom we are still incredibly keeping the same coat of arms “granted” by a king who was not even from here.

The old Chichimequilla came to stay in Lagos de Moreno: “Lagos” because of Santa María de los Lagos and “Moreno”, a well-earned name, in honor of Don Pedro Moreno, son of Spaniards who gave his life and literally his head - fighting along the chichimecas against his criminal countrymen for the freedom of our nation. It is also fair to recognize that despite so many history flips, something good remained on the land. Large haciendas –let’s not scour their history- have remained standing, showing off elegant architectures.

Hacienda Sepulveda could be a good example. In 1684 it was granted to Don Juan Sepulveda “as a gift” (?) from a New Galicia audience; and was later acquired by the Serrano family, which has kept the property spotless and with dominion, for more than three generations.

Being one of the most beautiful estates in Jalisco, now converted into a luxury hotel, it is one of the places that is worth... if I say the visit, I would be running short.

At a couple of hours driving distance from Guadalajara, you will pleasantly go a few hundred years back. Enjoy it!
