tolerant annual gaura has a snowstorm of white flowers all summer long. It is the
first-ever frost-tolerant gaura, allowing it to stay in bloom until a killing freeze in
Minnesota. ‘Snowstorm’ is perfect for planting in containers.
2006 Garden chrysanthemum Mammoth™ ‘Dark Pink Daisy’ (Mn. Sel’n. 01-127-
1): Vibrant lavender-pink, yellow-centered flowers engulf the dense foliage
creating a neat dome of color for more than a month in the fall. Bred by the
University of Minnesota to withstand very cold winter temperatures, it is a superb,
herbaceous perennial shrub mum for borders, edging, large containers or mass
plantings.
2002 Garden chrysanthemum Mammoth™ ‘Lavender Daisy’ (Mn. Sel’n. 00-100-
382): This large shrub chrysanthemum displays thousands of large, semi-double

and up to 1.22m wide.
2002 Garden chrysanthemum, Mammoth™ ‘Red Daisy’, (Mn. Sel’n. 00-100-216): A
red daisy, shrub chrysanthemum to be released as Mammoth™ ‘Red Daisy’, a
‘silent’ replacement for My Favorite™ ‘Autumn Red’. This selection flowers early
than My Favorite™ ‘Autumn Red’ and also does not have fading flowers later in
the fall season.
2001 Garden chrysanthemum Mammoth™ ‘Yellow Quill Daisy’ (=‘My Favorite™
Yellow Quill’, Mn. Sel’n. 98-M91-1): Yellow with a gold center, single daisy,
quilled petals, extremely winter hardy, grows to shrub size in the second year and
thereafter. First released under the new brand, My Favorite™, it was later
introduced in a newer brand of Mammoth™ shrub mums.

169-8): A hardy (USDA Z3) fall mum growing to a stunning 0.91m tall x 1.22m
wide shrub, sporting bronze daisy flowers and gold centers. An easy-to-care-for
plant, Mammoth™ ‘Dark Bronze Daisy’ does not require pinching, pruning, or
deadheading.
2000 Garden chrysanthemum ‘Peach Centerpiece’: This naturally-occurring sport
(mutation) from ‘Centerpiece’ was discovered at Lake Country Gardens and is co-
released with the University of Minnesota flower breeding program. ‘Peach
Centerpiece’ has an upright plant habit; its large quilled flowers, 5.7cm – 1.2cm
(dia.) make it a perfect cut flower.

2000 Garden chrysanthemum ‘Sesquicentennial Sun’: This upright plant sports
2.5cm-5.1cm fully double pompon flowers, which are frost-tolerant. This is named
in honor of the University of Minnesota's Sesquicentennial celebration.
2000 Garden chrysanthemum Mammoth™ ‘White Daisy’ (=My Favorite™ ‘White’;
Mn. Sel’n. 95-157-6): This Mammoth™ shrub mum has white daisy flowers with
multiple rows of petals and a gold center. It is extremely winter hardy (USDA Z3).
First released under the new brand, My Favorite™, it was later introduced in a
newer brand of Mammoth™ shrub mums.
2000 Garden chrysanthemum Mammoth™ ‘Coral Daisy’ (=My Favorite™ ‘Coral’;
Mn. Sel’n. 95-105-6): Coral daisy flowers with a gold center cover this hardy
(USDA Z3) chrysanthemum. It has a shrub plant habit in the second year and
thereafter. First released under the new brand, My Favorite™, it was later
introduced in a newer brand of Mammoth™ shrub mums.
2000 Garden chrysanthemum My Favorite™ ‘Autumn Red’ (Mn. Sel’n. 92-333-2):
Maroon petals with a gold center, this single daisy mum is extremely winter hardy
(USDA Z3) and grows to shrub size in the second year and thereafter. Released
under the new brand of superior herbaceous perennial shrubs, My Favorite™.
1996 Garden chrysanthemum Maxi-mum™ ‘Betty Lou’: This is the first
interspecific hybrid for a new series of shrub chrysanthemums. ‘Betty Lou’, with
red button-type flowers, has a cushion habit with a 0.76m dia. plant in its second
and successive years (USDA Z3 winter hardy).
1996 Garden chrysanthemum ‘Inca’: A low, cushion mum sporting hammered
bronze-colored, with double button-type flowers (5.7cm dia.). Hardy to USDA Z3.
1996 Garden chrysanthemum ‘Snowscape’: A first in its class, this semi-double
flowered cultivar grows horizontally along the ground (semi-groundcover type),
bursting into flower in the fall. The white petals are tipped with purple, making it
look like snow drifts in the autumn. At flowering the plants are covered with 3"
dia. semi-double, decorative flowers; hardy to USDA Z3.
1993 Garden chrysanthemum ‘Rose Blush™’: This cultivar, named after Rose
Ascher, has large, decorative 0.57cm – 7.6cm dia. mauve flowers on long stems.

NON-COMMERCIALIZED GERMPLASM RELEASES (15 total: 14-Assistant Professor, 1-
Pre-faculty)
University of Minnesota
Release yr. Cultivar name or germplasm release (breeder number), description
2003 Garden chrysanthemum, Mn. Sel’n. 00-100-60: This is a very early-flowering
(late July, USDA Z3/4), winter hardy pink/purple daisy shrub mum with large
flowers (7cm dia.).
2003 Garden chrysanthemum, Mn. Sel’n. 00-99-37: Dark purple daisy flowers (5.7cm
dia.) on this mid-season mum (flowering mid-August onwards, USDA Z3/4) have
intermediate to excellent frost resistance. This selection is a winter-hardy shrub
type herbaceous perennial.
2003 Garden chrysanthemum, Mn. Sel’n. 00-97-505: This early-season (early August
flowering, USDA Z3/4) shrub chrysanthemum is loaded with lavender daisy
flowers (5.7cm dia.) throughout the fall season. Mn. Sel’n. 00-97-505 also has
excellent frost resistant flowers.
2003 Garden chrysanthemum, Mn. Sel’n. 00-48-30: A first in the history of shrub
chrysanthemums, Mn. Sel’n. 00-48-30 displays pumpkin-orange flowers (5.7cm
dia.) early in the fall season (mid-August flowering, USDA Z3/4). The heavy
flowers are held strongly on stiff stems to prevent damage (lodging) from wind and
heavy rains.
2003 Garden chrysanthemum, Mn. Sel’n. 00-48-8: A bright addition to any fall
garden, Mn. Sel’n. 00-48-8 has bright yellow daisy flowers (5.7cm dia.) held on
very stiff stems. As a result, this winter-hardy mum will not lodge (split open) after
heavy rain storms.
2003 Garden chrysanthemum, Mn. Sel’n. 98-82-23: A yellow-bronze daisy winter-
hardy shrub chrysanthemum sports large (5.1cm dia.) flowers that are frost-
resistant. The thousands of flowers (opening in mid-September in USDA Z4) are
supported on stiffly-held stems.
2002 Garden chrysanthemum, Mn. Sel’n. 00-102-2: This purple quilled selection
complements Mammoth™ ‘Yellow Quill Daisy’ in plant habit and petal type. The
elegant flowers create a dazzle of color and shape, perfect for large containers and
for use in floral designing.
2002 Garden chrysanthemum, Mn. Sel’n. 99-158-243: A yellow daisy, shrub mum
with a compact growth habit. This selection matches Mammoth™ ‘White Daisy’ in
plant size and flowering dates.
2002 Garden chrysanthemum, Mn. Sel’n. 90-275-27: The first, completely flat
(groundcover) garden mum has a carpet of double golden flowers, flowering in late
summer through autumn. This carpet of gold remains as a groundcover perennial
year-after-year; it has a much lower plant height than ‘Snowscape’.
2001 Garden chrysanthemum, Mn. Sel’n. 98-89-7: This selection is a reddish-purple
daisy with an ‘eye’ in the golden center of the flowers. It is also a winter-hardy
shrub chrysanthemum.
Anderson
Vita
5
2001 Garden chrysanthemum Mn. Sel’n. 92-301-14: This winter-hardy shrub
chrysanthemum has purple/lavender single daisy flowers with a purple ‘eye’ in the
golden center of each flower. Each petal has white at the base, creating a ‘halo’
effect.
2000 Garden chrysanthemum, Mn. Sel’n. 95-170-28 (Mn. Sel’n. 95-161-2): This
shrub selection has semi-double yellow flowers (5.8cm dia.) with bronze
overtones. With cooler evenings in the fall, the flowers tend to ‘pink’ over the
yellow-bronze, creating a fantastic sunset appearance.
2000 Garden chrysanthemum, Mn. Sel’n. 92-321-19: Light lavender/medium pink
flowers highlight this shrub selection. All flowers are single daisies with bright
yellow centers, making them attractive to butterflies.
2000 Garden chrysanthemum, Mn. Sel’n. 92-296-25: This shrub mum is ‘larger than
life’, with the largest sized cushion plant ever seen (0.76m – 0.91m tall x >0.91m
wide in its 2nd
yr.)! When it flowers, the entire plant is covered with thousands of
purple flowers and will attract butterflies. For container production, high levels of
plant growth regulators need to be used.
1988 Greenhouse potted chrysanthemum, Mn. Sel’n. 83-267-3: This release has
white, semi-double decorative flowers, flowering under any day length (day
neutral)—the first of its kind (most chrysanthemums flower only under short days).
This germplasm release is also heat-delay insensitive; hardy in USDA Z4.
