COLORBLINDNESS• Problems with the cones in a person’s retinas which causes them the inability to

determine certain colors apart (cones see reds, blues, and greens. If they are unable to pick up one of these colors, colorblindness is present).

• Causes:

Genetics

Aging

Damage to the eye(s)

Eye problems such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts, or diabetic retinopathy

NYCTALOPIA• An inability to see well or at all in dimly lit areas.

• Though not a disease, Nyctalopia is a symptom of an underlying disorder, usually nearsightedness.

• Causes:

Nearsightedness

Glaucoma

Cataracts

Diabetes

Retinitis Pigmentosum

Vitamin A deficiency

Keratoconus

PREVENTION• Colorblindness or nyctalopia can be difficult to prevent if the cause is genetic.

• However, these two conditions can be contracted by other means. One can protect their eyes by:

Wearing UV protective sunglasses to prevent sun damage

Get eye exams regularly

CURES AND TREATMENTS• There is no cure for colorblindness. However, color vision correction glasses are available

so that colorblind patients may see all colors.

• The only cure for nyctalopia is to test to see if you have any underlying conditions that need to be treated (conditions can vary greatly; get tested first!)

ARE YOU COLORBLIND OR HAVE A HARD TIME DIFFERENTIATING COLORS?• Take the test here at Xrite.com!

• See if you can differentiate the hues of the colors.

• Remember: Just because you have trouble telling 2 VERY similar colors apart, doesn’t mean you are colorblind.
