Download the files “VFE2.03GTM.ova” and “CPRSSetupV1.0.6.exe” from the following site: https://jshare.johnshopkins.edu/VistA4EDU-Development/VFEPublic 2. Save the file to your computer in a location that you will remember, such as to your desktop or to the download folder. Install Oracle VirtualBox 3. If you do not already have Oracle VirtualBox installed, you can download it from here: https://www.virtualbox.org/ 4. Follow the on screen instructions and install VirtualBox with the default options 5. When finished, check the box to start VirtualBox after installation. (ADVANCED: If you are running the installation for an account that does not have administrator rights, and you have provided administrator credentials to perform the installation, do not launch VirtualBox here. Instead, finish the installation and relaunch VirtualBox using the unprivileged account to ensure that the imported virtual appliance can be accessed by that account.)

VistA for Education version 2.03 GT.M Manual Installation Instructions Last updated: January 14, 2013

Download VistA for Education Virtual Machine Appliance and CPRS 1. Download the files “VFE2.03GTM.ova” and “CPRSSetupV1.0.6.exe” from the following site:

2. Save the file to your computer in a location that you will remember, such as to your desktop or to the download folder.

Install Oracle VirtualBox 3. If you do not already have Oracle VirtualBox installed, you can download it from here:

https://www.virtualbox.org/

4. Follow the on screen instructions and install VirtualBox with the default options

5. When finished, check the box to start VirtualBox after installation. (ADVANCED: If you are running the installation for an account that does not have administrator rights, and you have provided administrator credentials to perform the installation, do not launch VirtualBox here. Import the VistA for Education Virtual Machine Appliance 6. Within VirtualBox Manager (shown below), click “File” and “Import Appliance…”

7. Click the “Open appliance…” button, and browse to the location where you saved the file “VFE2.03GTM.ova” in step 2 above. Click “Next” to continue.

8. Choose the default Appliance settings, and click “Import”. (ADVANCED: If you want to import more than one copy of this appliance, choose the option to “Reinitialize the MAC address of all network cards”.)

9. Once finished, Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager should look something like this:

Install CPRS 10. Find the file “CPRSSetupV1.0.6.exe” that you downloaded in step 2 above, and double-click on it to install.

(ADVANCED: you need to have administrator rights to install. If the account does not have administrator rights, the installer will prompt for administrator credentials.)

11. On the VistA Server Information screen, choose the default options and click “Next”. (ADVANCED: The default options will work with the virtual machine running on the same Windows machine that is running VirtualBox and the VFE VM. If you want to run the VM on a different machine, you can change the settings here to match the server name or IP and proper ports of the remote server.)

12. Click “Install” to start the installation.

13. Click “Finish” to finish the installation.

Launching VistA for Education 14. To start the Virtual Machine, return to Oracle VirtualBox, select the “VFE2.03GTM” virtual machine, and click

“Start”

15. You will receive information dialogue boxes relating to keyboard and mouse capture settings. These messages are normal (you may want to check the box “Do not show this message again”). Click “OK”

16. If you receive a Windows Security Alert related to the Windows Firewall, it should be safe to check the “Domain” and “Private” network and click “Allow access”.

17. Once the VM is started, you should see a window that indicates the server is running. You need to leave this window open to keep the server running.

18. After the CPRS installation completes, you should have a new folder on your desktop called “VistA_Apps”. Double-click to open.

19. To launch CPRS, double-click the “CPRS Chart” icon

20. Log in with the Access Code “DOCTOR1” and the Verify Code “DOCTOR1.” (note that there is a dot “.” at the end of the Verify Code that you must include). The access and verify codes are not case sensitive.

Stopping VistA for Education 21. Once you are done using the system, close CPRS and any other client components that you may be running.

22. To stop the server, return to the window pictured in step 17 above, and click the “X” in the upper right corner to close the window.

23. You will be asked what you want to do with the VM. Choose t he option to “Save the machine state” and click “OK”

24. You can now close Oracle VirtualBox
